Game 39: Kings vs. Ducks - 4/7/13 - Duck Luck Continues...

I've never outright said it but it's been in my head since last season when we all wanted Kompon gone. And I've eluded somewhat to it in saying that Quick has the same holes I've seen in his game for years. I decided to post it today because it finally reached a point where I felt it needed to be said.

I'm not going to give full reasons right now as I have work to do and if I'm going to post my reasons, I don't want half assed ones. Maybe later but really it has to do with the fact that I haven't seen either goalie really evolve and GROW their game. The holes haven't been fixed. Yes, they've become better goalies and I don't want to give Ranford zero credit but it's mostly due to their own skills and just honing them (Quick with athletecism and Bernier with fundamentals). Outside of that, there hasn't been growth to their overall game in my mind. At least not enough with how long Ranford's had to work with them. Again, this is the most condensed reason I could give so just remember that.

Alright. I still don't think I really understand especially after the year Quick had last year. Nobody's ever going to be perfect, but I'll wait to hear a full argument from you before I comment.

Jesus, I'm coming home drunk from the game and reading this thread is making me feel completely sober  what the hell is going on in here???

Great game by the Kings, not even mad. Puck luck ain't gonna last forever. Bad bounce, cherry picker (god damn you Ellerby), and a PP that shouldn't have been...I'll worry about this when they have shootouts in the playoffs.

That being said, give the Ducks credit for being fast and persistent puckhounds. They create some of that luck and some of those bounces by being super fast and aggressive...oh, and apparently soft as hell when you touch them. Please tell me this looked different at home...because it looked to me like Bryan Allen, 6'5" bigass Bryan Allen, got stickchecked below the glove and held his face?

Ugh, Ducks fans lost ANY chance to ever cry about Brown again with some of the flopping shenanigans. I want to give that team some credit, but such big, strong skaters sure hit the deck easily. THATS the only thing I'm mad about tonight.

Cheers, 3 points out of 4 on a back-to-back is lovely.

It's got to be frustrating to Sutter when the reporters keep asking him about winning the division. This post game:

On whether he has revisited conceding the division:
“I went to school, and I graduated, and I can do the math. We’ve got a few games left. That’s pretty much impossible…We’re trying to get our own points. Couldn’t care less who wins the division. You keep asking that, and I keep telling you that, right? We keep getting points cause we’re trying to make the playoffs, and I’m sure that’s what they’re saying, too.â€

He said he was proud of the team coming from behind 3 times and thought they played a good game.

Yup. Frustrating loss, but again we go down swinging. I liked our effort and still hate the shootout.

did bruce actually say that? maybe he should stuff his fat face with more ice cream

Ain't even mad. We outplayed them, destroyed them in possession (shocking), and lost to some puck luck.

Palmieri's goal was a result of a weird bounce on a successful poke check. Wat do?

Perry picking cherries like a boss, beat Bernier clean. Wat do?

Phantom slash, Bernier saves the invisible puck, but gets beat by the real one. Wat do?

This is the way the Ducks win games. Hell, it may even win them a series. But riding a stellar PP and relying on transition opportunism doesn't translate well in the postseason. Their fans don't believe it and I wouldn't either. They have a great record thus far and that's that. But their time will come, especially if they match up against a strong puck possession team like us, the Canucks, or the Blues in the early rounds.

We don't need to have long drawn out arguments every time the team loses a shootout.

Unfortunately the Kings are not entitled to win every game. Anything that can be decided without a goaltender making a save is ultimately not important in the long run for a team that isn't fighting for a playoff spot.

And unfortunately the Kings may be knocked down a peg or two in this postseason. That is life, that is reality. A lesson in humility may be upcoming, but these drawn out, personal arguments are not going to happen on this board. Whether the team down the freeway beats us or not, which despite all this nonsensical unsustainable talk has about a 50% chance of happening should the Kings play them. Just saying.

Anyway, the Kings played a great game tonight. There is nobody to blame for the loss, nor did they lose in something that will knock the team out of the playoffs. I'm not seeing the big deal here. Points in 7 out of 8 is all we can ask for.

I don't even care. Kings are the better team.

We would murder Anaheim in a 7 game series.

Based on what? You had the puck for more minutes in the game? You took more shots? How about that you scored with 30 seconds left in one period and 3 minutes in the last period. Sure we had a fluke first goal, but that is Hockey.

If I had to place a bet right now I would say it is a Kings-Pens final (and I am a Ducks fan), but that comment is just stupid. If you watch hockey you should know that there is not enough scoring to assume the team that controls the puck possession and has more shots should win every game. The percentages are there, but there are other aspects to Hockey, like goaltending.

My opinion, but this probably deserves it's own thread rather than being in this PGT. What you're discussing extends beyond this game and beyond this season, and doesn't really have anything to do with this game in particular. Plus you could be more in depth with your reasons in a separate thread, no? Just a thought.

Great post and I agree!

Yet since the time I posted that the Ducks would regress since their possession numbers and PDO could not be maintained, they have gone 6-5-2. Not exactly setting the world on fire. Nobody ever claimed they were a bad team, but that 20-3-3 was simply not indicative of the true strength of that team. Meanwhile you didn't see anybody saying anything about the Blackhawks, and surprise surprise they are the first to clinch playoffs. Take away the skills comp and Kings actually have more wins than the Ducks.

I still think the Kings take Ducks if they meet in playoffs. CHI, STL, SJS are the teams I fear most in playoffs.

I get that we don't want to underestimate the opponent. That should always been a given, any team can beat any team on any night in this league, IMO, you should never take somebody lightly. Even in playoffs we see random occurances, look at 06 Edmonton beating 58 win (something like) Detroit...but sorry if I just don't feel the Ducks are nearly as good as their record indicates, and that while it won't be a cake walk, the Kings should be able to handle the Ducks in the playoffs.

Except, Sutter's expertise isn't goaltending. I know your schtick is trying to be cute and funny after a game, but some of us like to discuss actual issues pertaining the team.

This isn't the first time CNS brought it up, yet we got posters ready to chase him off because they don't know any better.

Amazing. I've been trying to find a nice way to say it. Absolutely spot on. Well done, well done :handclap:

You really should go back to your own boards. The ducks have had an obscene amount of luck and the kings controlled the puck most of the game. Kings over the ducks in 5, maybe 6 games at the most in a series.

Thought I'd share this with you guys to cheer some of you up, hope you guys laugh. Hope he wasn't hurt on the play either, looked fine to me

That was a really epic fall. He did like a 360. You don't get any points for that, Michael

I would base it on the fact that you play a speed game and we can shut that down especially during the playoffs. I would refer you to our Cup run of last season. We are about to get Greene back and you won't be facing Ellerby during the playoffs so expect our D to be significantly better than what you faced tonight and have faced all season long from us.

I would also add that you faced our back up goalie who was having an off night. The fact of the matter is that neither of us know what will happen during the playoffs but I will say that John's opinion is as valid and potentially true as your own, even more so in my opinion.

Like I said, we can base that opinion on several facts while your only back up is that you have faced a deminished version of us during the regular season.

I would argue that your position is naive especially since a different version of your team won a cup recently and you know how different things are during the post season.

I don't think you need to go to your own boards or anything but you should understand that we Kings fans know what we have here because we watch every game. In a 7 game series agains the Ducks I like our chances........alot.

Bang on.

Only thing I disagree with there is that I am not at all worried about STL. Good team, we just match up better against them.

Sometimes the puck bounces your way, sometimes it doesn't... not even sweating this one. Pick it up and move along.... :)

I want to posses your confidence about STL and I had up until the trade deadline. I think they fixed a big problem that they have had for the past couple of seasons. Hoping I am wrong which is way way possible and that you are right. Just call me nervous about them. Confidence is cool though and when the season ends I am all about it.

Tonight (this morning anyways) I will sleep the feeble rest of the twitchy.

;)
