Here are the players who have scored on this road trip
Zib x2
Kreider
Tinordi
Lindgren x2

So two forwards and two Dmen who probably aren’t going to be scoring again for the rest of the season

Since we're presenting statistics that mean absolutely nothing, here are the players who have scored for Washington in the last 3 games:

Sheary (3)
Sprong
Oshie
Dowd
Carlson

We've got too many perimeter players. I just get so much envy watching other teams funnel to the slot, take it to dirty areas and go directly to the net.

Totally agree. If the goal of hockey was to have the puck along the boards, we'd win the cup.

I'm not all doom and gloom, but that was a tough game to watch. When you can argue that seven of your current roster players are either recent AHL players or glorified NHL players, you can expect things to get messy.

Yeah, that SHOULD be good. Panarin doesnt need linemates and Filip doesnt know where to go, but he skates and skates to.............

nowhere.
Mind you......I like Filip, but don't care much for his "game". (there is little)

Highlight of the night for me was when Vally said the Rangers coverage in front of the net was like John Giannone's time at Fordham.

Sloppy and very loose

I genuinely couldn't believe he made that joke on tv lol. Pretty sure he had some of the production crew laughing.

Feels like one where we couldn't make the sorts of mid game adjustments to compete that we may have been able to do if Gallant was there. I chalk this up, at least in part, to not having our coach.

Panarin also shouldn't be placed on the left circle on PP1 when Mika was incredible in that spot. I know Panarin is our most unpredictable forward, and was also rusty, but (surprisingly) I think Mika has the deadlier shot from a distance.

Panarin should play the right circle.

It's not like they played well so it's not an excuse but I mean, missing your starting goalie and 4 of your 12 regular forwards is definitely not nothing. Greg McKegg and Kevin Rooney were on the third line.
They got Panarin back who is worth more than all those missing forwards combined. Georgiev hasn't been the reason they've been losing either.

Apropos of that, Miller needs to sit for a game. He's let it get good to him and needs to be shown that it's ain't.

I cannot believe how many chances Strome gets and blows. That play in the first by lafreniere to not score on it. Its mind numbing

Most of the team has a finishing problem. How did laf loook at RW btw?

well he looked great on that play I mean an all world move but otherwise that line was terrible. Panarin wasn’t himself.

at the end they went to kakko with Strome and panarin.

I still think we’re best suited just moving kreider to RW. He’s not scoring goals flying down the left wing every night. He scores in front and actually he’s scored some from the right side. A hot Mika with lafreniere setting him up isn’t missing the chances Strome misses every night

Thanks.
Is there a link to a video of that play?

Definitely was looking for more from the top 2 lines. The thing is that there is no support from this bottom 6 for them, and you have Nemeth and Tinordi out there who have no clue what is going on. Then the next D pair has to clean up their mess and get them back on track only to have them get railroaded again.

I'm not sure what Lundkvist did to go to the pressbox, but he should be back in there against the Sharks. I'd play Jones too, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards if Nils is out there. Just go back to Nemeth-Lundkvist. It was working decently and wasn't a tirefire.

Team depth is definitely an issue. I really hope McKegg is done here. There is no reason for him to play. The 4th line actually was not that bad all things considered. Didn't generate much, but didn't give up much. Whatever you want to call that 3rd line was a horror show. We may not be thrilled with Gauthier or Hunt, but having them on the roster is super helpful considering the alternatives. Goodrow going down does not help either since he slides up and down the lineup.

Essentially played with a top 6 forward line from Hartford, a combo of their current 3rd, 4th, and a taxi squad guy, and an ECHL caliber pairing with our backup goalie. Gauthier could be back for the game Thursday if he had no symptoms, same for Shesterkin. Reaves is likely out Thursday. I'd keep the Hartford line and just bench McKegg for Gauthier, move Rooney to C.

This game highlighted our main deficiency. A fast team which is barely even a pretender didn't let us create almost nothing. Yes, if we had Shesty/Reaves/Sharp Bread we could've overcome them just with the skill/effort. But that would've just papered over the cracks. Underlying issues must be addressed.
And the only positive which this game might bring (tho I wouldn't hold my breath) is that GG realizes that something must give - we can't push grit/effort any further. This game surely was as scrubby as it can get. You can't possibly win in the play offs with Tinordis/Nemeths/McKeggs playing any sort of a big role. If it took a LAK team more or less on a roll to dismantle them.

But we're already riding them as it is.

That's fine for now. When you don't have your normal depth, you need your top guns to try and carry you through it. I've been asking for the 3rd line to get it in gear, but at least they generate chances and tilt the ice back in their favor more often than not.

Last night it was like having multiple traffic cones on the ice. I get why up front that happened, injuries and COVID have hit the forward group. The defense was self-inflected. That 3rd pair needs a puck mover. Jones or Lundkvist need to be out there. I am hopeful that Gallant gets to take a step back and see that is not working and address the issues with the 3rd pair.

We will get a BuyAFartInAJar.com Arena by the end of 2050
One day in the future with good health you young people will be able to tell the future generation’s of Sports fans about the time before the gambling houses first bought all the sports networks and then bought all the arenas so they could place betting windows in them and finally purchased all the teams and their league’s.
They’ll probably reply “another crazed old person with one of their stories; if I ever get like that, please smother me in my sleep “.

Panarin is Panarin. Even if he wasn't rusty, I think last night's type of game would have been difficult for him even if he weren't coming off Covid. Peak Panarin might have pulled a horseshoe and scored to tie the game or something, but it would've been based on his individual brilliance and not from team play. But LA cast a 200 x 85 defensive net all night and allowed no time or space. I thought to myself a few times how they're just a few games above .500 with the way they were playing, at a consistently high pace and very little unforced errors.

It wasn’t so much low energy last night but rather low talent ;
Mckegg
Brodzinski
Barron
Rooney
Lafrenniere
Kakko
Tinordi
Nemeth

That’s too much Hartford in NY
Throw in the coach too …

This one says it all. Team has had an insanely productive PP that has won a number of games for us. Without that the team can be pretty flat.
