I'm not sure when Nemeth-Tinordi being used a pair keeps getting chances. They're abysmal together. Neither of them are good at moving the puck, breaking out, jumping into the play. Having them as the 3rd pair and using them every 3-4 shifts really makes it impossible to stick to the system because they're both so bad at transitioning the puck that those quick ups the team does all the time when they're playing well turn into getting pinned into our zone. When we're cruising and playing well (like Anaheim period 3 the other night) all the D pairs do a good job at breaking out but also a good job corralling and going D->D and up in the NZ and also doing a good job of staying tight on the opposition and not giving them easy zone entries.

When Nemeth-Tinordi are paired together it makes it basically impossible to do any of that, not only doing a poor job in transition both ways but also seemingly every time they're out there they get caught pinned in our zone off of some unforced turnover that would've been an easy clear with one of the other pairs. It makes it almost impossible for the team to get into any kind of rhythm when every third or fourth shift is a fire drill in your own zone - it leads to penalties, losing momentum, fatigue and goals against obviously.

That third pair NEEDS a puck mover on it if Gallant is going to insist on Nemeth as a regular. Nils has been doing a fine enough job, Jones was okay in a couple of his games but Tinordi and Hajek simply can't be paired with Nemeth. You wanna pair Tinordi with Nils or Jones, okay but not with Nemeth.

I cannot believe how many chances Strome gets and blows. That play in the first by lafreniere to not score on it. Its mind numbing
Yeah, that could have changed the game somewhat, as Vally mentioned in the postgame.
Crazy stat that I heard today, which I believed was wrong...Laf has ZERO PP points in his career...that's unreal!!

Didnt watch past the 2nd but didnt need to. Probably their worst game of the season when you factor in the opponent, and this is the first game that i think you can directly point to them losing do to lineup decisions. Nemeth/Tinordi both being behind the net on that 2nd goal is an unacceptable mistake for 2 veterans.

The stars also all stunk and went back to thinking they could play Quinn hockey and hope to win. Overpassing and no one in the same zip code as the LA net. Cant happen in a game where half your team is out.

Games like this make me think maybe Chychrun is more of a need than we think. Anyway, move on and play better in San Jose.

One of, if not the worst efforts of the year. Just terrible all around.

How the hell did they decide to ice Tinordi-Nemeth after scouting the Kings? Brutal decision by whoever made that call.
I've learned to ignore whatever happens to that third pairing. Makes life easier.

Obviously protocol has the roster out of whack right now, but man the bottom of the roster is brutal. The third line was AHL tweener-4th liner-ghost of Filip Chytil and the bottom pair had an ECHLer and a guy who handles the puck worse than Nick Holden on his worst day.

What a stinky game to stay up until 1am for.

It's hard to watch that game and blame it on the missing pieces. We had a fully healthy d-corps, Georgiev played really well. Does anyone really believe Hunt, Goodrow, and Reaves would've changed something about that game? We couldn't generate anything, we lacked the poise and the footspeed to counter a super-aggressive forecheck, and we couldn't touch their defensemen who skated circles around our forecheckers.

Gettinger is a soft 6-6. He should be throwing bone rattling hits or have slick hands for a big. Being 6-6 and soft isn't attractive. Barron I like a lot and think more and more he will be Gallant's 3C next season. Brodzinski is in the McKegg. Look, this team needs a scorer come deadline and a solid defenseman because let me tell you, Tinordi and Nemeth will get you absolutely whitewashed in the first round. Gallant has to know that, no? Jones should get another look.

We coulda had just an off night. But to say Hunt, Goodrow, and Reaves wouldn't have changed anything is a bit of a misnomer. After all, they are the difference between this team and last year's. And having a forecheck, isn't helped by having those three forecheckers out. Would it have made a difference? Probably not. Looked like LA wanted this win more than we did. They played harder than us. So, I agree with your overall assessment.

yeah I’m not sweating the loss, just think those three guys are a big part of why we hold leads so effectively, and are also part of the problem when it comes to a lack of foot speed, poise, and offense in general—goodrow obviously less so. Hunt and Reaves are 12/13 forwards on basically every team.

moreover, I thought the AHL line has been perfectly fine as a fourth line the last two games. The issues are team wide—all the forwards and defense to some extent.

that all said, it’s been so long since we had a full season it’s easy to forget that we still have more games left to play than we’ve played. A lot can change.

Not for nothing I like Rob Luker but I heard him on a podcast the other day and he had absolutely no idea about the game of hockey or the team he follows. I mean it was ridiculous. They asked him what would be your lines he didn’t even know half the players

Just gotta stick together and get healthy....Feb 1st is the march to the playoffs...we need a scoring forward...when is Vitaly available to the NYR?

I had been saying the same thing. This season can change on a dime with COVID. Thing about it is,... players can get reinfected fairly easily. Used to be you had a virus once, and then we were immune. But COVID is mutating everyday. So reinfections are quite common.

That said, I agree again our call ups have played well. I thought the 4th line wasn't as productive last night, but no line was. We were in this game til late, so it wasn't a total non-effort. LA took it to us and played well throughout.

Just another aside about Reavo being out. With him out, three or four things happen. First, Tinordi dresses. Second, Lunqvist or Jones or both sit. Third, 6 or 7 less hits. And fourth, opposing D-men have no fear in retrieving the puck. Doughty would have thought twice in getting the puck for that quick outlet pass. A lot of D-men are allowing Reavo to go in first, so they can lay a hit on him instead of the other way around.

Having those guys would have helped simply because the coaches wouldn't have felt obligated to play Tinordi to keep the fake Lemieux factor in check. We needed speed last night to win and we dressed our slowest possible team. Add a sloppy Panarin and a few blown scoring chances from Strome and you have a loss.

While I need to be clear I haven't given up on them - I do agree with this 100%.
Same deal I will give Noupf. Okay I just bought the Rangers and I'm making you GM . I'll give you 100% hind sight ........and the ability to pick the 2 North American skaters and 2 European skaters ranked below Laf and Kakko at the time of the draft. You've got Kakko, Byram, Dach, Podkolzin, and Soderstrom . Take your pick and rank the rest. Laf, Byfield, Drysdale,Stuzle and Holtz. Take your pick and rank the rest.

I mean seriously, ive seen NOTHING and i mean NOTHING in either of Laf's or Kakko's short careers that make me think that either one of them should have been a 1st or 2nd overall pick.

f***ing cursed franchise.

I just bought the Rangers and I'm making you GM. I'll give you the benefit of hindsight and the ability to pick the 2 NA skaters and 2 Euro skaters ranked below Laf and Kakko at the time of the draft. Something about chickens, eggs, and counting. Haven't we learned our lesson by now?

Guys when's the game going to start against LA?

Separate point but I REALLY enjoyed the Rangers making their practice sessions public. The defending 3 on 2 drills last night were fun, we stopped most of them! Much better than the defending 3 on 2 drills from Thursday night.

Why? I'm not displeased with them because of how they stack up vs those other names you listed. That wasn't point of my post.

Laf and Kakko were picked exactly where any other team would have selected them if they were given the same opportunity at the podium. Doesn't mean I have to be impressed with them.

Okay I get it. I guess the disappointment is we get 1st and 2nd picks when it wasn't a great crop. What I focused on noupf 's post that you agreed with at first was the "that should have been picked first or second" so I thought that was a criticism of the team but then I see the cursed "franchise part" so maybe the other was just poorly worded on his part. I like you am not giving up on them yet .
