I don't know how anyone can not be a fan of Zac Jones. Kid moves the puck better than anyone on our team not named Fox and holds his own defensively. He's not pushed around despite his size. Sitting him was an atrocious move.

That's the case with virtually every team

There are players who come through even when being defended well, and then there are others.

Obviously. Gallant mentioned this too. Overall defense wasn't very good, some of it due to fatigue.
yea it was very much stating the obvious so not something id expect to continue...or at least hope not. but def was tough to watch how many times it happened in one game. like i said no reason to overreact to one game but did think after the first 8 times we coulda made a point to say ok dont really have the legs tonight lets just make sure we protect the house and not get caught chasing the puck into low danger areas.

Unless he was a little banged up and we don't know. Otherwise it was a bad and unnecessary move. Good news is Jones should be back on Monday or I break something.

Until last year the rub on McDavid was that he couldn't hack come playoff time when defended well.

The problem is they didn't defend any better against the Wild.

didnt love it either but get gallant wanting hajek to play a game after sitting for like all of last season to get him a chance. plus jones had a few young d moments last night that opened the door. i think everyone knows thats gonna be his spot full time, but early on i dont mind gallant setting a high bar for him. i think you can take it to the bank we see by far his best game on monday...everything about him so far says he responds well to being challenged, guessing gallant has picked up on that too

yea but in my eyes at least was a very different game. wild for one are just a much better team and i thought they just made some great, creative plays to get looks which happens. not to say our centers didnt lose coverage at times but at the same time were way more competitive and physical...just against good players / teams theyre gonna get looks over 60 mins too. dmen though could say were a little scrambly around the net both nights but that i chalk up more to early season settling in.

all in all im not that concerned about any of it. tonight specifically though became comical seeing the exact same thing happen as many times as it did given how important that part of the ice is and how egregiously open guys were being left there.

edit: the one thing i think has been killing us consistently is getting caught with 3 guys below the puck where we dont win it and the other team has 3 guys above it skating into a wide open breakout and enter the zone with speed and space 3 on 2. that also is def an early season thing as lines figure each other out but has def been whats led to the most damage.

Disappointed that it didn't go to overtime so that both teams could get a point, but it was still fun to see these guys live. Laf with that one play, wow was I hoping he would have scored on that one! He's going to have a great year! I was so torn on this one, I wanted the Rangers to win again, but I also didn't want the Jets to lose their home opener. But at least it's done and I can go back to fully cheering for both teams every night!

Just popping in to see the hot takes and ensuring some of us are back to our miserable selves... good stuff.

Hajek is a superstar. So glad Jones had to sit for him. Especially with two full days before the next game.

Halak for Vezina.

Gallant #1 star for Winnipeg.

I dont know what the Rangers management still see in Hajek. Still saving face from the McDonagh trade. He is a tweeter AHL dman at best. Not that good.. In most organizations he’d be 10 or 11 on the depth chart after some NHL prospects and some AHL players.

A shocker. Rangers are playing their 3rd game in 4 days. Jets are playing their first of the season.
This is all that needs to be said. The rangers look awesome. Even on the road, third in four nights, backup goalie, opponent’s home opener…the definition of a “trap game” and they were drowning Winnipeg with one hand. Winnipeg stepped up and got what they needed on their opening night. It’s probably their 2022-23 pinnacle. Shit happens. On to the next one.

I don’t think Hajek was bad.
Not that I want him playing at all, just think blaming him here is unfair.

They were repeatedly letting the jets run dangerous plays behind the net in the third. Have to be smarter with their positioning.

Still, good start to the season
Anyone blaming Hajek is out to lunch. Blame the schedule-maker. This team looks effing good.
