An 'almost game' for the most part, and a pretty dull one at that.
Defence was in scramble/be in the wrong position mode for most of the night and we created some good chances but either whiffed or Hellebuyck was good enough to get them.
Nice goal by Hunt, Halak was our best player (sadly), KK and Laf continue to look pretty good.
Didn't like Kreider's game, Panarin was good overall but some of his pass attempts were head-scratching, Fox doesn't seem to have his 'sparkle' at this point.
We need Jones in order to transition the puck better

Not to be that guy, but I will

That is what it looks like trying to score against teams who are willing to play good D.

Playoff type stuff, Rangers will need to find a way beyond feasting on weak D coverage who gives them tons of space.

The thing that bothers me the most this game is that once the Jets went up 2-1 the team mailed it in. Last year they very rarely did that. I know it was 3 in 4 but still. Very disappointing to see the team just give up when they went down in the 3rd.

In the grand scheme of things, meh. I thought this was going to be a loss anyway. Not that I think Winnipeg is that good, but they are at least decent and they got fresh legs against us playing our 3rd game in 4 nights. And in the 1st period it looked like that.

To piss away the game in the 3rd by stupid individual mistakes, that's not good. Trouba, that can't happen man. Just can't happen. You are the captain of the team, supposed to be a good stay at home defensman. A puck over the glass penalty in the dying minutes of the third when trailing? As bad as they can come. Leadership is expected ON the ice as well. That was far from it.

Kids looked good and Halak too. There's a silver lining I guess. Panarin looked good. Get some rest and go after the next one.

The next 3 games should be wins. At home against three shit teams. I wonder if playing the Avs early in the season is a break before they get it going.

I think given it was the end of a back-to-back against a fresh Winnipeg team, the rangers just ran out of gas by the end of the 3rd. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, certainly in game 3 of the season.

So it had nothing to do with great goaltending or being a little fatigued? They dominated parts of this game and had 41 SOG and plenty of opportunities playing back to back on the road and 3 in 4. You can't win them all.

BTW, our PK has been bad so far.

Last thing I’ll say is that the Rangers are going to win 95% of the games they have 41 shots. Hellbyuck stole it.

To be honest with you, nothing to do with the Rangers but I'm not sure that's true. I think there are some advantages to facing that many shots. The goalie really gets into the game. Look at Hank and Igor's stats when they faced 40+ shots. I know they're HOF caliber goalies but their stats were better when facing 40+ than when facing less than 40.

losses happen so whatever but...will say we should probably not spend the season allowing passes from below the goal line to guys all alone in front of the net. that defensive strategy is about as successful as communism
