I'm hoping Foligno doesn't become one of those 100% pass first types this year. Could've tried to shoot that and have backup on possible rebound. Other than that he seems to have some of the stickwork he was missing last year

Will Werenski break Nash's rookie goal record? :sarcasm:

Also, I have to say I have never expected Sedlak to amount to an NHL player, but he looks damn good out there. Like a solid 4th line center.

Please, as much as you want to make him seem amazing, the top3 Dmen of his draft were all projected to be #1 Guys. Elite to me is a #1D.

I think you are missing something here. You're as likely to get a Coburn or Valabik with an #8OA as a Werenski.

No one taken at #8OA is projected to be elite, even if you are defining it as the team's top D. They are at best having good elite upside (30% chance of elite maybe).

I didn't have very high expectations, but he doesn't look out of place at all. All four lines look pretty good right now.

Major you're being the typical CBJ fan. We drafted him to be a top pairing dman.

Here's a link to the Hockey writers draft profile of him, saying he was going to be a top pairing dman... his "Risk Meter" was a 1/5. Just stop. It's not like he overcame all odds to be here. It's not a bad thing when a dman you expected to be a top pairing dman turns out and is developing into one. But let's not go crazy here. We actually drafted and are developing correctly, but I'm not gonna say he's more than a flash in the pan, and IS going to be a #1D until he does it. I have high hopes for the kid, but I also had high hopes for other prospects that have failed.

Given there are 60 #1 defensemen in the NHL, that really doesn't qualify as "elite."

Then again, one could just as easily argue that simply BEING an NHL defensemen makes you elite compared to all the beer leaguers.

Let's drop the word elite and simply say Werenski is living up to his potential so far. Which, as was previously stated, is all too rare of an occurrence for this franchise.

I think you are misunderstanding me now and misunderstanding the scouting reports from 2015. I'm not saying anything here other than that he is far better than what one typically gets at #8OA. Jarmo might have expected him to be elite (either #1 or elite elite, whatever), but if everyone did he never would have made it to #8.

He is not "meeting expectations" so far. He is surpassing them, by a large margin. You don't get expected elite players at 8, you get guys with elite upside.

Too small of a sample size. If he's playing like this all season, then I'd be apt to discussing exceeding expectations.

That's at least 3 times the Jackets have gotten hauled down on a semi-breakaway. Don't understand how touching the puck allows you to just tackle a guy without a call.

My oldest son summed it up nicely. "Saad is our most skilled player, but he was only the 5th or 6th best on Chicago. We've got a long way to go."
