I haven’t had stiches in three years. I love that. I love being retired and I love not having stitches. I’m telling you, I started at 18 having stitches every winter and went till I was 37. … But that is one of my favorite things. No stitches on my face. I’ve had over 500 stitches in my face. You might want to note that. And now I’m on TV. Figure that out. Thank you doctors and good genes I guess.

We'll be flat due to the long layoff....2-0 Hawks at 1st intermission...then we'll come back to make it interesting before losing in final 2 minutes 5-3

This game is going to be interesting. The Hawks don't have a deep group of scorers by any means. We've got last change. If we get a couple competent shutdown groups and Torts matches them we've got a good chance to keep the Hawks' scoring down to a couple goals. I'm not predicting it, just saying that theoretically it shouldn't be that hard.

The Atkinverts are reunited - I don't like two undersized wingers with Dubi but these three teamed up for the playoff run in '14, so...see if it works again?

That's a bunch of 3rd lines, basically. Maybe you could call one 2b. But hey, we're not icing Bourque - Campbell - Boll so it's an improvement.

The "Atkinverts", as you call them, played well together over multiple seasons.

And just so you know, the cutoff between a topline wing and a second liner is about 51 pts, and the cutoff between second and third is about 35 pts (assuming there are 90 first liners, 90 second liners, etc...). And the Jackets have a few guys at the first line cusp and 7 players total at a top 6 level of scoring.

I think it's fair to say we have a bunch of second lines.

It's cool how the Blackhawks roster has a decent amount of turnover year after year and they are always really good.

I agree - I attribute a lot of that to Keith, Seabrook, and Hjalmarsson playing more than 70 of the 120 D minutes - there is a lot of continuity just in those three.

Bobrovsky himself is due for a big game but the whole team is due for a big game.

Hossa out, the bottom 6 on offense needs to take advantage of their bottom 6 at least.

I have to go Columbus winning, Atkinson with a big game.

Having reviewed all the comments so far, it is true that we have a very mediocre looking lineup.

Where has all the talent gone, long time passing? Where has all the talent gone, long time ago? ....

...Really?
Big night for our defense. A couple of points and shutting down a few lines.

That being said, our Forwards are...so meh. Not a single line has consistent offense throughout. Closest is Saad-Wennburg-Foligno but tricky Nicky bogs down the line.

The team is not less talented (I'm not saying it is talented, I'm saying it's not less talented than it was).

When the team is winning people praise the players and their talents.

When the team is losing people rag on the players and their lack of talent.

It's mostly the same players.

The way Nick has been playing he could top 40 assists.

Either way, he's the type of guy, who despite a lack of scoring talent, would be welcome on most team's top lines because of his talent for driving the play forward. Chicago would love to have him next to Toews.

I wouldn't be surprised if Saad and Wennberg hit 60 pts this year, and Foligno a bit less. It would be a top line in the sense that there wouldn't be 30 lines in the league better than them. Of course there would be 15 better than them, so it wouldn't be the strength of the club.

Torts said he's putting Werenski with Savard to better limit his minutes. But I think it's somewhat euphemistic, and that Torts just sees whats coming with Chicago and wants Murray and Jones together to play a shutdown role.

Thanks.
About this game.Frankly, we have almost zero chances.Chicago recently scoff over flyers. Our turn, here we go...

That was a weird game. Chi went up 4-0 only to have Phi claw back to make it 4-4. I think Chi got their last 3 goals (1 was EN) in last 6 minutes. I think Provab (SP) went - 5 fo Philly. We'll get the Werenski comparable tonight. From what I saw we made the right call.

I don't think the disillusionment is due to losing. I think there is a significant perception issue when Matt is put in place of Boone.

Last year our top line was Cam, Dubie, Boone. And that was a very productive line. Boone with 31 goals. Cam with 28, Dubie 15. That is a legit top line. A second line of Saad with 30 goals, Wennie the Poo and the the imaginary Bjork scoring 20 is a legit second line. Foligno and Hartnell on the third line? Not bad at all.

But Boone, Dubie and Hartnell have been horrible so far. So when you replace Boone's 30 goals with Calvert's and his 12 goals, your legit first line suddenly becomes a third line. That to me is a very disturbing optical problem. We really do look like an expansion team with that kind of lineup where our first line is really a third line. The bad start by Dubie and Boone is very, very distressing. WE need Boone to be a 30 goal scorer.

Provorov. How did you end up with Provab? Personally I wanted to call him Provo-cop because he is like a machine. We made the right call having Werenski ranked 4th that draft, ahead of Provorov? It sure looks that way now.

I was expecting we'd get the Werenski comparable tonight but it looks like Torts doesn't want him on the top pair against Chicago. So it's not going to be a direct comparison with Provorov - who had to go top pair against them alongside Streit.

In 15 years as a STH, the thing I hated most was when Pitts, Chicago or Detroit fans would flood in and take over NWA. One year, all three of those fan-bases made the game an away game for us, and the CBJ laid a big steaming pile on the ice.
It's one thing when your team can't compete in the league. It's another level of suck-dom when your opponents' fans come in and humiliate the home fans.
