Just so we are all clear: If Goodrow and Carpenter each score 2, this was still beyond stupid.
That's the issue, when you go into "win now" mode when the rebuild is still not finished. Coach is worried about the next game, not the next 5 years. Putting a grinder like Vesey into the 1st line might produce results faster than with Kakko. But developing Kakko into his full potential is paramount for the success of this organization.

The only way this decision makes any sense is if Krav is banged up and GG is trying to protect him(from being seen as injured all the time).
But lets be honest. That isnt why. He is just a stubborn joke.
I doubt a banged up player would be doing a bag skate.

This seems like it could be a Panarin thing. He has always liked a grinder on the other wing and coaches seem unable to say no to him
Really? Panarin is basically babysitting and mentoring the fellow country kid. They seem to be buddies on and off the ice. Putting in extra time in practice, etc.

I dont think he would advocate for him being taken off his line

Its clear Krav isn't a favorite of Gallant, so expect 1 or both of them to be gone soon enough

There really can't be any way that Gallant thinks the team is better with Brodzinski at 4C and Goodrow at 2RW.

So what did Kravtsov DO wrong to get himself scratched? Any possible viable explanation for this?
[/QUOTE]

Thats the question I'm asking too, but accepts the answer that only a few in the know, know.

Sometimes players get scratched for reasons that no fan sees from their hubble telescope.

No we won't......Turk likely will lay out a few thousand dollar bills in the room for the winning goal......he hates Vegas so bad it is not funny . When they fired him he told his friends he would draw out every last nickle of his contract....and he did before the Rangers signed him .

I had heard.....maybe just a story who knows....that deal for Kravs is done but they did not want him to fly back by himself as they figure he might be kidnapped since there was a story of a Cdn stalker from BC recently stopped at the border with a lot of Kravs personal items on him ....one never knows....

he would be icing his best lineup if he wanted to win that badly.

I've been a staunch trade Kravtsov and anti forcing him into the lineup but even this is a puzzling and troubling move for me...

Kravtsov looked good since re-entering, don't get me wrong, not perfect worthy of special treatment like some prop him up, but he looked good.

Solid possession through NZ and entries, committed to backchecking...just really don't understand the move to replace him with Goodrow.

Goodrow is a leader, and bring a TON of qualities other guys on this team don't, but not only is your lineup and team at its best when he's centering the 4th line, he's at his best when hes not forced into an offensive role hes not suited for.

This move legitimately helps no one, not the team, not Goody, not Krav. Just perplexing

I get the logic behind this statement, I really do, and I'm sure its the logic alot of front offices use...but its flawed.

Age/experience is not always the be all end all in "win-now". Vesey never once "produced results faster" on the 1RW than Kakko did when he was playing there, aside for a game against Detroit that was a crapshoot because we scored 6 goals in like 5 minutes in a Red Wing meltdown.

Then have the guts to explain that to the player. I get that you might not have to explain to a guy like Gauthier why he's not in the lineup, but a guy like Kakko should be different. And Kravtsov to an extent too. This franchise needs those players to be good. Guys like Gauthier you can replace easily.
I definitely think that was it. Maybe he talked to Kakko about finishing players with the body and he just wasn't doing it.

However, whatever it was that particular game, it wasn't conveyed to Kakko, he wasn't even approached. Thats where I took issue.

I also think Gallant thought the Rangers would win that game and he would put Kakko right back in. Who knows. Tough to speculate on it.
Definitely. I know coaches don't want to have to overexplain and be second guessed all the time but if you can't communicate with your players then that's an issue.

This is why we struggle developing young forwards so much. There's constantly the lingering threat that some Goodrow is going to take your spot because he does Goodrow stuff.

We just let Miller go out there and suck until he didn't and Schneider is just out there sucking (offensive improvement noted) until he hopefully doesn't.

Yup. I think if this team didn't have the high end offensive vets already it'd be a bit different but as it is young forwards are always on the verge of being demoted

I know Schneider went through a rough patch, and maybe its just the dreaded eye test that so many hate, but IMHO, goals and offense aside, I don't think Schneider has looked bad at all lately.

Not sure what possession or corsi or whatever say, but I'm not seeing a defenseman who "sucks", other than when he hit his rough patch which is fine for a young defenseman

You know, Schneider hasn't had an NHL ready partner since he got in the league, that's an indictment of the organization who are basically throwing him in the deep end. His partners have been Johnson, Hajek, Tinordi Jones etc etc. Non of them are what you'd call an anchor for a young dman to lean on.

This could be it

considering he has not played in a 80 game league, 1 game a week for Kravtsov would not be so bad and would still be healthy at the deadline
Who's gonna trade for a guy who can't stay in the lineup over Vesey and Carpenter, its absolute trash they are scratching him and playing Goodrow in the top 6....they just can't do anything right, finally get Vesey out of the top 6 and now Goodrow joins it.

Gallant is incapable of riding youth

Having all 3 of Laf Kakko and Krav in the top 6 would have made him physically ill

It’s why he can’t keep a job more than a few years. He doesn’t want to change and take a risk. He’d rather fail with what’s comfortable than take a risk with an unknown

This is not what’s happening

We just have a buffoon of a coach that’s incapable of playing his best lineup if it involves a bunch of young players

Yes, major problem. Not to mention he adjusted half decently carrying Nemeth for large portions before forming a solid pair with Braun.

Speaking of Braun, he is a guy i'd LOVE to target at deadline. We got him last year from Philly, so they'd likely be willing to do it again. He fit well, worked with Schneider, knows the system. Likely wouldn't experience the adjustment period like most would.

JVR at 50% plus Braun for a 2nd and a prospect would entice me. Imagine

13-93-24
10-72-74
20-16-JVR
91-21-26/12

55-23
79-8
Braun-4

I don't mind that lineup. If Krav can't handle playoff hockey top 6 you swap JVR to 3LW, move Krav to 3RW and slot Kreider at 2RW

I'm fully expecting Goodrow to score the GWG tonight after all of us have been inconsolable for 8+ hours leading up to the game

But that doesn't change a damn thing. To be completely honest, I think Goodrow is more integral to this teams success than Kravtsov is. I don't think Kravtsov moves the needle enough offensively for everything Goodrow brings to the table in terms of faceoffs, PK, leadership, defense and versality.

BUT...Goodrow can't do all that effectively and fulfill his role and importance to the team when he's forced into the role Kravstov is suited for due to reasons beyond anyones comprehension.

This is the first time I've ever defended Krav and I don't know what this means for humanity but I'm officially saying Krav is now unfairly out of the lineup and should absolutely be in based on current construction of lines and by the way hes played after sitting 8 out.

Point still stands if I can only have 1 IN THEIR PROPER ROLE come crunch time, I pick Goodrow 10 out of 10 in SCF game 7
