Goodrow absolutely blew his coverage on I think the 3rd St. Louis goal the other night, just standing around. anyone under 24 years old would've been benched, possibly scratched the next game. but nope, he gets promoted to the Panarin line.
Kreider took the beating from the coach on that.

It took a few moments but I completely understand this move from the coaching staff, or head coach if we're being specific.

Because when the line-up chances halfway in the first, we're going to have to put Vesey and Kredier back on line 1 throwing off the entire lineup.

I'm trying to rationalize and think what could be the basis for scratching Kravtsov since all Gallant gave us was "coach's decision."

It can't be his play - he has been effective, creating a few chances, actually dangles and backchecks hard. He could be a bit stronger on some board battles but he's not going to learn how to win those being scratched. He also started to show a little more fight in them, winning a tough battle near the offensive blue line last game to keep the puck in.

There's no rumor or anything about him doing anything professionally or personally that would cause him to sit.

There really can't be any way that Gallant thinks the team is better with Brodzinski at 4C and Goodrow at 2RW.

So what did Kravtsov DO wrong to get himself scratched? Any possible viable explanation for this?

bizarre scratch of Krav.
Unless this is a Drury scratch with a trade call incoming this is a head scratcher.
Kravtsov has been noticeable in his last starts. One of the Blues players poked at Shesterkin’s glove after the whistle and Vitali was having none of it , placing the players neck in a headlock.

Kreider took the beating from the coach on that.

this was fake news. Micheletti missed one of Kreiders shifts the other night and thought he was benched. he was never benched, that was just the exact moment in which Gallant changed the lines.

yeah it's possible it's a punishment but honestly seems less likely than Gallant just trying to be "smart"

we're going to get smoked tonight. they might have to kick us out of the league after.

The only "logic" I can see with this lineup is that there are certain teams they have pencilled in that require a bit "tougher" lineup. And Vegas certainly fits that mould.

And if that's the case, I disagree with that logic wholeheartedly. Put that toughness into the 4th line, it worked well with Goodrow there.

Must win.

If VK74 gets back in the lineup next game I don't think the scratch is a big deal. Also, Chytil might die stepping onto the ice for his first shift and they might need another center.

"Coaches decision" was the reason for sitting Kakko in the last playoff game, with no explanation given to media or player.

We can assume its the same tonight with Kravstov.

The kid looks comfortable and confident out there. 1-0-1, +2 in the past 3 and he not only yanks him out but bag skates him for added effect - with likely no explantion.

Yeah, thats really going to send a message to the 22 year old

Finally getting Kravtsov playing and straightening the lines out have really given me optimism about this year, add a left d and let it roll til the deadline
While I was thinking letdown season right from the get go....I was thinking much the same today . This team can easily enough get hot in the playoffs . We just have to make the playoffs and play well going in .....and with a couple of adds albeit minor and a year under the kids belts....we can be right there with a great goalie . It is possible for sure and yes I also know it could go the other way just as fast .

When do we find out that Vesey is back on line 1? Just waiting for that to be official to get the taxis ready.

Bahahaha
Seriously though, his handling of Vesey is an indication of his ability as a hockey coach and being able to look at players and access them and see how he can use them. Some of you guys just want to talk about the lines you want to see without admitting the truths about this team. This team is complicated. High end talent but lacking in depth and lacking in overall speed. The most talented player is the softest and the biggest disruption to creating a system (and he can't be traded and benching him could blow up in your face). Everybody wants Laf and Kakko to get top 6 but they won't accept the truth that it didn't work out so well last year with the top 4 playing keep away from them. You also don't acknowledge that if they move up we are left with 2 4th lines. Gallant doesn't just have to say okay I'll give Laf and Kakko a shot with Zibs. He has to consider Zibs and Kreider and if he'll lose them or not. Back to Vesey.....Early in preseason Gallant recognized his effort and the ability to use him in different situations. He knew the complications of this lineup and anyone that wants to be honest has to admit Vesey has been great as a $750,000 PTO. Turk was able to move Laf and Kakko with Zibs BECAUSE it's finally come to this. Seriously do you think you can just f*** around with your last years 50 goal scorer just for the hell of it. You try that before now and it doesn't work you've killed the team. NOW he can give it a shot. He says he will for at least a few games. Let's see what happens.

Kakko being benched and replaced with Hunt (I think?) was 100% Gallant thinking a faster forechecker who would hit could spark something and be more effective, but ignores that Kakko's forechecking and stickwork is far more effective than flying in and trying to hit someone rather than gaining the puck

Same as this is probably "want someone who's hard along the boards"

I don't want to join the club of praising every time he doesn't turn the puck over but this absolutely caught my attention as well. Even before the face wash he socked the guy in the jaw.

I know he wasn't great offensively but he's definitely doing things. A lot of players on this team *aren't* doing things right now, so I really don't get it.

I think people were more miffed at moving Kakko and Laf out of the top six positions they were playing earlier in the year (Kakko with Kreider and Zibanejad, Laf with Panarin and Trochek)

both lines were playing pretty well and while not producing as much as they generated, it was better than what it shifted to with "now they're playing terrible and also not producing"

Vesey has been fine, it's not his "fault" he was played above his head on the 1st line, but he still did a decent job.
