Back from the game. Some observations.

-Sad to see that the ACA is still locked out (At least this is why I think you can't hear them?). Glad they were still able to make the intro video though.
-80% Columbus fans, 20% Detroit fans
-Liked the intro stuff, even if the "Thank you fans" was somewhat hokey.
-HUUUUUGEEEE fan of that convience store, mainly because people hadn't figured out you could buy beer there.

-Blue Jackets didn't play well. Got absolutely outclassed in the 1st half of the game, pulled even till about the final 5 minutes of the 3rd, and then proceeded to hang on for dear life.
-Bobrovsky is the only reason this game wasn't 7-3.
-Need to get Dorsett back to the 4th line.
-Need to break up the Umberger-Brassard-Atkinson line. It's holding back Cam.
-Need to get Anisimov out there more.
-Need to play Aucoin-Moore more (pun intended). Johnson-Wisniewski looked like **** at the end of the game and I think fatigue was a big reason.
-I think the team went 3-3 on the new forward acquisitions. Really like what I've seen from them so far.

Holy crap that was a terrible game. If that is the type of hockey they are going to be playing, I won't attend another game this season.

I'm so glad we replaced Nash with such hard workers, I mean Dubinsky is such a harder worker...wait nope, he's actually pretty ****ing terrible so far.

Umberger still terrible just like he's been every year he's been here.

Team defense was awful they never covered the backside all night.

How Brassard has outlasted Nash and Voracek on this roster I'll never know.

Johansen line was good again.

Anisimov (sp) is good, but again, that other guy who came with him makes me actually think Umberger isn't so bad. But then Umberger gets on the ice and I remember why I hate him so much.

Just lazy passing and dumb passing all over the ice tonight especially by Nikitin.

Overall we got lucky to get a point, Detroit is terrible, so at least that is a good thing. Good chance Detroit and Columbus finish 14 and 15 in the conference this season.

Doug.... some of what you say is valid and some is pure crap....

Just home from the game. Some quick thoughts.

HUGE crowd, mostly supporting the home team. I've been to a lot of sell outs, but can't remember a game that crowded in a LONG time. Every seat was full.

Bob was outstanding.

Umberger and Brassard sucked.

Loved Atkinson's speed.

Was very pleased we fought back to get a point.

From the view I saw on the new jumbotron (which is awesome), I thought the Atkinson goal was no good. He did too, by the look on his face.

Good look.... for sure JJ and Wiz need to play better... I think their heads are getting way too big...

Also I really liked when Foligno went over and confronted Kronwall after he attempted to level Johansen.

point out one thing in my post that is incorrect.

It's fun to read your rants. There's no way Columbus and Detroit finish 14 and 15. I'll say one thing, last year we would of never came back to tie it up. Good teams win games they shouldn't have bc of never quitting. We unfortunately lost the skills comp tonight.

How did the arena sound when Prospal scored? ;)

Also TinTin were both -3 with like 25 mins a piece while Moore and Oaky played like 9 and 11 minutes. Seriously our third pair isn't that bad. Moore is actually very responsible in his own end. Richards needs to role all d pairs a lot more. You can't play Jack and Wiz 30 minutes a night every game in this short season.

The way this team looked tonight, and the fact they squeaked out a point, leads me to believe that these are the two bottom feeders of the conference. Wasn't really a rant, there were some good players out there Bob, Moore, Aucoin, Johansen, Foligno, Atkinson, Calvert, Mackenzie, Prospal, Anisimov all looked good. The rest, were either bad or just meh.

I wonder if Letestu - Brass - Atkinson would be a better line.

Bump down Umberger
Bump down Dorsett
Remover 4th liner
???

Thoughts

1. Security needs to rethink how they are going to do the wand thing. Why did I have to half dress to get in instead of being wanded?

2. Sam until you posted about ACA I forgot they were ever a thing. Where they there tonight?

3. Disappointed about how the game started but loved how the team did not give up and got at least a point.

4. I think the more this team plays together the better they will get.

5. Can the shootout go away?

Doug, I agree with you but even if I didn't I'd love you as a poster.

That was funny.

And correct, in my opinion.

Gotta give them a chance though I guess. Gotta remember that since last years deadline we have a ton of new roster players with no training camp nor preseason I think it can be expected for this sloppy play so far.

Quick thoughts from 217.

-Calvert was very visible all night. Love the kid's hustle, and can see why Shermanator earned his spot.
-Cam and Johan where good. Aside from the bad penalty when we were on the PP by Johan, he played pretty well all night.
-I thought Brass played better tonight than Saturday, made some good hustle plays but just couldn't get the puck on his stick to finish them.
-Bob. Awesome. We have to cut down on the shots he is seeing. Which leads to...
-Passes out of the zone were not good for most of the night. In fact, passes outside our zone were not that great either. I figure (hope) this will get better as they play together more.
-Shootout calls were correct. Sucks, but is what it is. 3 out of 4 points isn't bad.
-Some Wings fans are still a-holes. Guy sitting next to us dumped his beer all over the person in front of him, and just in general acted like a jerk all night.
-When the team came out for warmups all wearing number 1, all I could think of is "crap, we have a team full of Masons. They are going to score 25 goals tonight." :help:

All in all, just glad that the NHL is back.

Back from the game.

I think Dorsett needs to be on the 4th line. He got an assist because he looked at Johansen, but it was Joey that made the pass and Atkinson that did all the work on that goal.

Otherwise Dorsett is just a penalty against us waiting to happen. Did he get 4 shots? Yes. Were they good shots? Only 1 was, the other 3 were not good.

Calvert worked his butt off. Wish everyone skated as hard as he does.

Nikitin, Tyutin, JJ, and Wiz looked great in Detroit's zone, pretty bad in ours.

Bobrovsky was the reason why the game wasn't 4-0 at the end of the 1st period. That and some lucky posts.

We got completely outworked. They gave us no time or space when we had the puck. We gave them too much time and let them just carry the puck over the blueline.

When does Dubinsky get to Columbus? Does he know where Umberger went?

Brassard was good IMO. He carried the puck well and didn't back down from physical play. He doesn't have chemistry with Umberger though. Anisimov also looked good even though he didn't score.

My personal forward lineup for next game:
Umberger - Anisimov - Dubinsky
Prospal - Johansen - Atkinson
Foligno - Brassard - Letestu/Calvert
Dorsett - Mackenzie - Boll

Give the top-3 lines about equal time. Put Umbie - Anisimov - Dubinsky out against other team's top line.

Not sure what to think about Dubinsky so far. You would thinking having played some during the lockout he would look better. Maybe playing in such a low lever league did him no good?

Umberger I am willing to give a pass for a couple more games, but he needs to step it up soon.

I am with you and really liked what Brassard did tonight.

Holy overreactions Batman!

I got stuck in the closed I 71 and it took me almost 4 hours to get to the rink. While at the rink I learned that a teammate had his son die of cancer after our game last night. I had to leave early because my son had a diaper blowout midway through the third, and I had to listen to Detroit tie and win on the radio on the way home.

And yet it seems I had a better evening at the rink than most of you. The Jackets came out flat but didn't quit. This isn't a great team, nobody is expecting that, but it is nice to see them not giving up when they get down early and continue to battle back. It is nice to see a goaltender continue to battle after giving up a couple goals instead of watching the shoulders sag. They have taken 3 of a possible 4 points, not bad for the team wildly predicted to be dead last.

-There was a fight in 205
-The first two goals for the CBJ were things of beauty.
-It was way too cold leaving the arena.

-I, too, felt like the 4th line should have had a few more shifts tonight. They were bringing it.
-I am delighted Bobrovsky is taking the ball and running with it.
-I was horrified by the first 30 minutes of the game. It's tough sledding against 13, 40, and CO.
-I was extremely happy they didn't roll over and die like the NashJackets would have.

-I am not sure line shuffling will come as fast as some think it needs to.
-Thankfully there were few Wings fans in 206 so it was a very enjoyable game despite the loss.

No, yeah. I think most agree with you on those points. We DID come back from 2-0 against the Wings. It should have been a rout but wasn't. That means we aren't the "same old Jackets" who get down and don't fight back. Now we get down but try to fight back.

What we want, eventually, is a team that doesn't get down so often. A team that looks like IT is in control much of the time. A team that cycles, hangs onto the puck, and gets good open looks at the net.

One of those things we want to see is checking and physical presence. We had bad checking both in the offensive and defensive zones. Detroit totally outworked us there and in the corners (aside from a few like Calvert and Johnson).

What we, or at least I, want is for guys like Umberger and Dubinsky to be noticeable every night. They don't need to be PPG players but if they are having a tough time creating offense I want to see HITS, physical play, BLOCKED SHOTS and hustle. That's what they are supposed to bring, a little offense and a little defense. Right now it's just a little (emphasis on little) offense.

Stat of the night? 42 shots on goal. That means we AREN'T blocking enough shots, especially for a team that is "defense first, character driven, hard working, yadda yadda."

I agree. I've been a loyal follower of the Jackets since day 1 and have been bitter about it since year 10.

This felt like a new start tonight. I had a great time at the game. I couldn't wait to get home and write about it. This is the first time I've felt like that since 09.

I hope this team continues to eat lighting and crap thunder!

Two good games against division foes. Compete level is high. Nothing to complain about. We have some work to do, but we will improve over time. Let's remember we have 5 new additions to this team.

And the new scoreboard is a beauty! I also like the new video board used above the cannon. Very clear to read and there's a lot more info on it.

I think they did their share of blocking shots. They just kept giving the Wings the puck over and over again. There was zero sustained pressure for pretty much the first 30 minutes.
