Why couldn't we have just been blown out 6-0?

If Browns Stadium is the factory of sadness, Nationwide Arena is the Nuclear Power Plant of Depression.

The puck touched his pad and then he tapped it in.

You can't do that. Come on guys, it's not that hard to understand.

That did happen and I didn't know that was a rule. If it is I stand corrected. I don't think it is though? I've seen tons of legitimate shootout goals where a goalie made contact w/ the puck while the forward was still in relatively solid control, then the forward scored.

From what I was told the ref said the forward shot twice. That did not happen. He whiffed twice, once on forehand deek where he initially lost control, then a whiff on a tap-in as the puck was crossing the line.

Very curious to get clarification here.

I believe they were checking to see if Brunner pulled the puck back any, I think it has to be going forward at all times...and Bob still almost got it. He really was the only reason they were even in it in the third period and aside from playing the 3rd goal too aggressively, he played an awesome game.

Having said that, Mason should start the next game, don't want to burn Bob out just yet, leave that for the April playoff push

Brunner did pull it back but i think you are allowed to do that-obviously

And for all those crying we got robbed-do you actually watch the replays? He lost it, then pushed it towards Howard (the shot) then reaches between Howard's leg and guides it in. 2 shots. Funny thing is I think it was going in if he didn't 2nd whack it. I don't think refs hosed us tonight.

All in all an entertaining game if somewhat sloppy.

But if we don't get some offense at even strength it is going to be a long season (even for 48 games).

3 pts in first 2 nice start. i think everyone would have been happy with that before the season started.

Bob looks good;it will be interesting to see Mason's first start.

The refs were fine. We just got beat. sheesh.

I liked our game minus brass and umby. I say buy umby out and let him go if he doesnt pick up the pace. He is slow and makes dumb plays. Vinny is slow but does good things on the ice. Bring up some of the young physical hustle players.

Still much better than last year.

.

Wrong. He tried to do that, no question. If intent to shoot the puck twice is against the rules he violated those rules.

But he whiffed, and the momentum of the puck took it across the line.

ugh. We gave it away in the last 5 minutes. Bobs did everything so well but he overplayed the 3rd goal. However,Anisimov or tyutin should have broken up the pass to white . they didn't even look behind them . Also, the defense on the 3rd goal rivals that of a tyke team when they all just bunch up in a circle in the shootout, Atkinson was great and unfortunately the call didn't go our way. Bobs was good and still almost got brunner's. However,Anisimov had an extremely lazy deke, Johanson has to realize that a weak 5 hole shot into a top goalie isn't going to work . especially after he had the right idea against the preds. Calvert cannot miss that shot. it has to bat least hit the net from where he was from.

Very disappointed in the last 5 minutes and on. That was not a playoff team. Also, can we bench Umberger next game? An alternate captain playing the way he is playing is impossible.

sorry for any typos and non capitalizations. I'm on my phone and its not used to all the hockey names and stuff.

The Atkinson one was 50/50, Howard did touch the puck. Not sure the controversy on the Brunner goal, its a good goal.

You say whiffed, I say whacked-obviously one of us is wrong but the refs unfortunately said whacked so it doesn't count.

One of the broadcast guys was implying they were looking at whether the release of the puck on his backhand was the actual shot. Fairly reasonable assumption, as it isn't an uncommon fake. No idea if that is what the refs themselves were looking at, of course.

Some quick thoughts before I'm off to bed:

- Immediately after the shootout I was disappointed with only one point when we could've had two, but then again thinking of that first period I'm greatly pleased with that one point. Which brings us to,
- Bob. Spectacular.
- Tyutin and Nikitin were bad tonight.
- Richards needs to utilize the 4th line more. Great energy from those guys tonight, especially Calvert.
- Someone needs to show Richards Adrian Aucoin doing shootouts on Youtube.

I'm on a 2013 internet message board full of fellow blue jacket creeps, its been a good 15 minutes since the controversy ended and I still don't see a clarifying Youtube clip in HD?

Is this even in Internet? What is this, Mozambique?

I think we actually stole a point from this one.

Dubinsky's line was awful. It seemed like Dorsett was taking all the shots, and their first shift in the second period, they couldn't get the puck out. Nikitin and Tyutin looked gassed. Nikitin couldn't keep up with his man a lot of the time along the boards. We couldn't make an outlet pass to save our lives (to our own team, anyway).

We were essentially doing what Nashville was doing the night before, turning it over right in our own zone, and it took a while for our powerplay to click, then it went downhill again.

We wouldn't have even been in the game, had it not been for Bob and the posts. The defense did do a pretty good job steering guys away from rebounds, but then we couldn't clear the puck.

Johansen and Atkinson looked good. Seemed like Boll's line was one of the better ones. Foligno looked good. Once we hit the shootout I knew we would need a miracle to win. But the player choices were quite confusing.

Thought the fourth line was one of our best, and was underplayed. When we started to knock them around is when we started to get momentum. We're not going to out pass Detroit.

Yeah, RJ Umberger is almost totally useless now.

He drew one penalty tonight. That's about the end of his production on offense.

RJ hasn't done much in two games... I could say our ex Ranger players didn't do much tonight as well...

That said, RJ needs to pick it up in this short season if he wants to continue his perception as being a game changer in the Blue Jacket organization....

A note to RJ... pick it up dude, you are making 5 million a year to do something.

To me it looks like Atkinson came into close to Howard when he was making his moves. One of his moves hits Howard's pad and then eventually the puck goes in. I think the move that hit Howard's pad was considered his shot(even if Atkinson didn't attend it to be his shot). So anything after would have been dead so when Atkinson took his actual shot, the ref declared it a 2nd shot perhaps??? Heck, if that was the case, Atkinson almost had 3 shots but missed the puck on the 3rd attempt(2nd wack at the puck).
If you think a deke hitting a pad shouldn't count, I guess it's kind of how they look at it when the goalie poke checks the puck.

Bob, I salute you. Made some unreal saves and even gaved us a chance in the shootout.

Calvert has been the most consistently impressive forward so far this year. We saw tonight (again) why those calling for him to sit after game 1 are completely wrong. The kid flies but doesn't get out of position. He plays well in the tough areas, too. Great to have him back.

Bob is playing great. Exactly what this team needed.

I think with Umby and Brass, you're just seeing the effects of two guys that decided to be an asst. coach and play in a men's league, respectively. They put themselves behind of the rest of the crew playing professional hockey of some sort, somewhere.

On the shootout goals it's easy:

(1) Cam, the move to the backhand was counted as the shot, rightfully or not. It was Cam's last effort before putting it on goal, so I think it's the right call...no double tap allowed after he put it on goal.

(2) As some have tried to make clear on the Brunner play, they were reviewing whether or not the protective move to the backhand stopped the puck's forward progress...it did not, so the goal counted. Pucks must move forward at all times in a shootout attempt.

My opinion.... he actually shot the puck three times... once from the slot, second in the paint and third off of Howards pad...

Lets face it, it was a bazar shootout goal attempt.. but what I actually saw was a guy who is hell bent on putting the puck in the net....

If he does that during regulation time it's a goal!!!! We need more CBJ guys who can finish a shot as Cam did on that attempt... !

Holy crap that was a terrible game. If that is the type of hockey they are going to be playing, I won't attend another game this season.

I'm so glad we replaced Nash with such hard workers, I mean Dubinsky is such a harder worker...wait nope, he's actually pretty ****ing terrible so far.

Umberger still terrible just like he's been every year he's been here.

Team defense was awful they never covered the backside all night.

How Brassard has outlasted Nash and Voracek on this roster I'll never know.

Johansen line was good again.

Anisimov (sp) is good, but again, that other guy who came with him makes me actually think Umberger isn't so bad. But then Umberger gets on the ice and I remember why I hate him so much.

Just lazy passing and dumb passing all over the ice tonight especially by Nikitin.

Overall we got lucky to get a point, Detroit is terrible, so at least that is a good thing. Good chance Detroit and Columbus finish 14 and 15 in the conference this season.
