I think they did their share of blocking shots. They just kept giving the Wings the puck over and over again. There was zero sustained pressure for pretty much the first 30 minutes.

It didn't seem like that to me, but then again I was actually at the game and not watching on TV so I may not have picked up on it.

There were a few off the shins and a few off some stick blades, but IMO both teams didn't do enough blocking of shots. Detroit usually does a great job of that.

I'd be willing to bet we'll hear about it soon from someone like coach Richards. I think getting in lanes will be one of the things they work on very soon. That and getting the puck out of the zone with nice passes (hopefully, that one's been 12 years coming for the Jackets so you never know).

Stats show 15 blocked shots for the CBJ.

Name one thing that was crap.
Detroit and Columbus will finish 14th & 15th
Umberger has been terrible every year that he has been here

Pretty much agree with most of the rest of the rant, not all though!

I was at the game, fewest Wing fans I've seen here, no way it was 20%. 5% maybe.
We were 2 goals down to these jerks and came back, actually led at one point, then they looked like they went into that 'protect mode' and quit attacking. They should have gone in for the kill! But hey these guys aren't used to playing with each other, the Wings are a veteran team, used to winning so yea, they made us look bad at times, we could have won it but it seems like something always happens when we play these guys that goes against us. If Atkinsons SO goal is allowed to stand we win the game in a shoot out. But we got a point, if someone would have said we'd get 3 out of the first 4 pts, we all would have taken it!

pick and roll detroit offense

I was wondering if one of those legendary Detroit power play picks was ever going to get called. Samuelsson in particular had one plain as day that looked like something you'd see in an NBA game.

Holy crap that was a terrible game. If that is the type of hockey they are going to be playing, I won't attend another game this season.

I'm so glad we replaced Nash with such hard workers, I mean Dubinsky is such a harder worker...wait nope, he's actually pretty ****ing terrible so far.

Umberger still terrible just like he's been every year he's been here.

Team defense was awful they never covered the backside all night.

How Brassard has outlasted Nash and Voracek on this roster I'll never know.

Johansen line was good again.

Anisimov (sp) is good, but again, that other guy who came with him makes me actually think Umberger isn't so bad. But then Umberger gets on the ice and I remember why I hate him so much.

Just lazy passing and dumb passing all over the ice tonight especially by Nikitin.

Overall we got lucky to get a point, Detroit is terrible, so at least that is a good thing. Good chance Detroit and Columbus finish 14 and 15 in the conference this season.

1. What kind of hockey do you want, a shootout loss or a regulation loss?

2. Who said Nash was going to be replaced by hard workers? As for his replacements what are your comments about Artem Anisimov in game one?

3. Umberger is an issue but he has 198 points in four seasons as a Blue Jacket, have you watched any of his games?

4. The defense could have been better tonight but saying they never covered the backend all night could be debated, I saw them cover the backend several times...

5. Brassard outlasting Nash and Voracek is a ridiculous comment; there is no comparison between those players… different skills, different pay and different times. The simplistic comparion is that they are first round picks, if that's your reason you got that right.

6. Johansen was good again-you got that right Doug…

7. The other guy’s name I think you are talking about is Brandon Dubinsky, a guy the head coach said played well in game one even though he wasn’t noticed….

Your assessment of tonight’s game was horrible…..

From home..

Bobrovsky was obviously solid, he kept us in the game for the entire first.

Cam was good. Battled hard and obviously had the goal.

Johansen was a beast again. That entire line was really good.

Dubinsky still struggled. But at least he was good on the PK.

Umberger is shaky.

Brassard was good.

Nikitin and Tyutin struggled all night.

Jack and Wiz were pretty good, except for breakout passes out of the zone. Really struggled there.

Calvert was an energizer bunny out there. Very happy with him and MacKenzie. Boll did his job too.

Why didn't Aucoin and Moore play that much?

We need some legitimate first liners.

Dorsett belongs on the 3rd line. He's a secondary scorer not primary. First two lines need a shakeup. Keep the Foligno line and 4th line in tact. Sub out Boll if needed for Letestu.

Overall I thought they played hard and battled back. We didn't deserve to be in the game. But we'll take it.

I was getting so pissed because they were so blatant with the picks all right and nothing was getting called.

Back from the game. Some observations.

-Sad to see that the ACA is still locked out (At least this is why I think you can't hear them?). Glad they were still able to make the intro video though.

They were tucked in a corner in 228. Kinda hidden behind one of the towers from my view. The intro video does make out to be like a much bigger deal, though.

I was glad to be further away than I was for all last year.

Hey Guys, I was tuning in a bit to your game between whistles and such during our (Sens) game. Seemed like J.J. was always on the ice when I flipped over, so I checked the box score... 32:04 of ice time?!?!

Someone needs to tell Coach Richards that this season is CONDENSED! Play Johnson like that, with so many games in such a small time frame, he'll be bagged by the trade deadline.

Good luck this year, gents!

The thing that gets me about Dubinsky is how relatively passionless he's playing. Something did make him pick it up a bit in the 2nd, and he was better, but he's not the guy I watched play for the NYR.

Umby played another very casual game almost completely outside of the dots. It's shameful

Liked most everyone else most of the time. Love the battle level. Need to get in games quicker. Bob is bailing them out if these terrible starts. Need people harder on the puck - this got better as the game wore on.

Just back from the Nat, had a great time tonight.

The Good:
- Bobrovsky
- Atkinson, Johansen, Calvert, Tyutin
- The scoreboard. I can get a suntan from that thing in 103.
- The audio system. MUCH better!
- The crowd.
- JD's welcoming speech.

The Bad:
- The refs jobbed us three times in the first period.
- Umberger and Dubinsky
- Nikitin had an off night tonight
- Pretty much most of the 1st period.

The Ugly:
- None, other than a few of the Red Wings fans.

As much as I hate for my first post on this site to be one with this type of tone...holy crap, man, RJ Umberger's play tonight was nowhere near NHL caliber, like not even remotely close. He was a liability every time he touched the puck and he was slow as molasses in January. If his play doesn't improve in the next 5-10 games, just get him off this team, don't care by what means, but in a 48 game season we really don't have time for that type of crap.

On a positive note, I loved the play of Bob and most of the other new guys, atkinson and calvert are quickly becoming my favorite guys, johansen is much improved this year, we could be plain dangerous if he gets hot. The crowd was awesome tonight, just wish we would have had more to cheer about in the first 30 minutes of the game. A point is a point is a point, especially in this type of season, so I left happy tonight, we really did fight hard in that 3rd period and our PP did quite well. Should be very interesting to see where this team stands come the end of this week, the next 3 games should tell us a lot more about what we've really got here. I'd really like to see Dubinsky get involved on the scoresheet on this road trip.

Wings fan coming in peace and saying good game. I thought the disallowed SO goal could've gone either way. Bad break for you guys in a very winnable game. I feel like we may have some more close ones in the near future!

The good, the Jackets got a damn point vs the Red Wings... And if the Jackets ever want to make the playoffs they need to get two points at home vs the Red Wings every time; decent game but not good enough Todd!!!!

I say this with the utmost love and respect for RJ that folks would expect... but somebody need to give him a swift kick in the ass. I don't know if he's overthinking everything or simply just still rusty from not having played during the lockout, but the results have been embarrassing.

I mean, c'mon, RJ. You know I love you, but this is bad. You are better than this.

And what the heck happened to TinTin? They were out of it. It was totally freaking bizarre.

Nah, Cam hit the puck twice. No goal was the right call. Give us a couple more years and we're gonna start delivering some payback for whoopin' our ***** all these years.

Just remember that Detroit did it with skill not with physicality so tell your big guys to take it easy on us ... but seriously, we injure easily:(

anyone surprised Colaiacovo is apparently out for weeks now after what looked like a routine hit?

I was surprised he almost made it through 2 games. Pretty impressive for him.

Tyutin and Nikitin sucked after playing amazingly in game 1. Hopefully they bounce back against Phoenix just like JJ and Wiz did after struggling in game 1. ON to the next one!

Honest post by you, I've joked about the soccer game fight vs the Blues getting to much media attention and into his head but that's a stretch...

RJ should be leading these kids, for some reason he seems to be watching them... I dunno, I hope he engages soon..
