You’re over rating what they are I think.

They need superstars. Not support guys which is what they all are.

Ullmark needs to steal games. Although tonight he just needed to outplay whoever the f*** sabres goalie was.

But look at us. We struggle regularly to beat other teams goalies. It’s a talent issue. No good shooters not many good passers not good puck handlers. Like they’re just not very good. It’s the cards we were dealt in this rebuild and wr are absolutely stuck with it unless we decided enough is enough

They do not have the talent to win without a goalie.
LOL. The Sabres goalie is Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Buffalo hasn’t had a good winning record, but UPL is decent. I get the impression you focus only on the Senators and not the other teams (the NHL).

I do agree that it takes more than a good goalie to be a good team.

It's been hard to judge the Senators over the years especially to get a read on how good the young core is in relation to other teams' cores. There’s always been something like suspensions, injuries, bad coaches, etc. getting in the way making it hard to make a good analysis. Maybe we’ll know at the end of this year finally?

Sabres are shit just like we are. They have the same problems.

You think cozens is gonna take them anywhere? No.

It’s really difficult for me to understand this line of thinking from fans and the media.

If Buffalo is a bottom team then we are very much a bottom team ourselves. Bottom teams will win and lose games against other bottom teams. Why are people assuming that we are better than them before we have proved a single thing?

Buffalo is ONE point away from us in the standings. They finished with MORE points than us last season. How is Buffalo a bottom team? We are arguably in the same position as they are, maybe a bit better or a bit worse, but we are right there with them.

Every. Single. Game. Will. Be. A. Challenge. For. This. Roster.

We are not good enough to even mention the word bottom team when talking about an opponent. No wins should be expected.

There are no games we should expect to win during this season before the game is played. We are not Vegas or the Rangers. We have been one of the very worst teams in the NHL for years.

The media and the fans are doing themselves a disservice by expecting wins against teams they deem to be bottom teams, forgetting that we are very much a bottom team ourselves. We are just now TRYING to get out of the bottom, like Detroit and Buffalo and NYI and Washington and Pittsburgh and Columbus. This is the group of teams we are hanging around with, we are not much better or worse than these teams until we prove otherwise when March comes around.
I agree with this assessment.

And, if we are relying on our goalie to play lights out and stand on his head every game (admittedly some hyperbole here to get the point across), we are not a very good team. I don’t think winning games with a 1 - 0 or 2 -1 type score is very realistic. We only scored one goal last night and their top line played way better than our top offensive players.

Why did you feel this was necessary to point this out to me? Maybe you’re not reading and/or not understanding what I wrote? You seem to have glossed over the "whoever the Sabres goalie" bit in your post.

We clearly outplayed them until late in the second. Board is overreacting on this one.

Their goalie was just better than ours. At the end of the day, the goalie cost us the last game plain and simple.

That 2nd line is soft, I agree, but Pinto back will alleviate pressure off it because Pinto's line will be a dual threat as it was early in the season.
That is a very odd & optimistic opinion. Buffalo outplayed the Senators all night long. The Senators never looked like they were playing well enough to win this game.

Ullmark, our 8M man, has not lived up to the hype, so far. To see that 3rd goal trickle in off a shot from the point was deflating. However, I still believe. I like Ullmark's character and have to think he's just off to a slow start, but last night wasn't good.

Buffalo deserves credit. On their home ice, they brought their A game. I think it caught Ottawa by surprise. I keep thinking Ottawa is going to get on a roll and string together 5 or 6 wins in a row. So far it's been one step forward, one step back.

The trash talking about Buffalo being a bad team should stop. Ottawa for the most part is neck and neck with them as being a bottom feeder if that's the case.

True, but I’ll still shit talk them. Same with Detroit. Same with Montreal. They ARE crap

This is part of the problem. Why would Ottawa be surprised and not have prepared for Buffalo knowing they would be playing desperate and would come out strong. They are rarely ever prepared on the road and its a common theme that has yet to be rectified.

Preparing is one thing. Executing is another. I have no doubt Ottawa thought they were ready. They weren't.

It's sports. On any given day, team A can beat team B. Ullmark letting in soft shots from the point certainly doesn't help with team morale.

I did not remember who the sabres goalie was. That’s why I said “whoever the f*** the sabres goalie was”.

I maybe misunderstood the rest of your post. I thought it was saying that I’m not focusing on sabres issues only ours. My response to that is we both have severe issues and are both quite bad

Buffalo's underlying numbers aren't very far off from Ottawa's. Montreal and Detroit sure, they're pretty much bottom of the league defensively and have been pretty fortunate with some goaltending performances.

That's why I specifically said good feelings gone. I was quite optimistic about this team, suddenly we didn't look like the same old Senators who wouldn't show up on any given day. Then poof, despite warnings from people who watch...sports, and I assume their coaching staff, they let a team that we should be distancing ourselves from win - and kick our ass to boot.

An average team will have good nights and bad nights. This was a bad night.
Why average anymore? Because we're missing Zub and Pinto? Or are we just average? I don't understand anymore. Tkachuk, Stutzle, Giroux, Norris, Batherson, Sanderson, Chabot, Jensen, Ullmark with good role players and we're average? I hope you're wrong and this was a blip, I can't take it anymore

too bad its one step forward and one step back

got us all bipolar.
Well there have been some good signs but also some bad signs giving us all a bit of Sens related PTSD.

I'm just remaining hopeful we can eventually go on a bit of a win streak before we encounter a lengthy losing streak. One step forward and one step back is definitely frustrating but it shouldn't eliminate us by December.

looking at the standings there really isn't any excuse why we shouldn't be the last wild card team.

still feels so counterintuitive to hope for it.

Yep. It's the 4, 5, 6 game losing streaks that will doom a season. Need to avoid those, and string together a winning streak. Even just 3 games lol
