Oh Sandersons gotta do something special aaaaaaannnddd it’s dumped into the corner and he’s taken strong defensive positioning

Just can't seem to bring the same effort and coherent play we do against top teams. Not sure how you fix this kind of issue when it doesn't seem to change year after year.
It’s a talent issue they cannot hang game in game out.

I know we have a game against the Isles before but I can see the Bruins starting Korpi on the game Saturday night. If we lose to him...I'd say we've hit rock bottom

Big disagree. They have more than enough talent, especially when Pinto and Zub are in. This is a maturity/consistency thing.

It's both.

We don't have the talent to not play for most of the game and then just turn it on for a few mins and win like some really talented teams can do.

So because we lack that talent, we need to be very consistent and play a full 200ft game with no compete and not give them an inch...well, we don't do that very well either.

The result? .500 hockey and missing the playoffs.

You’re over rating what they are I think.

They need superstars. Not support guys which is what they all are.

Ullmark needs to steal games. Although tonight he just needed to outplay whoever the f*** sabres goalie was.

But look at us. We struggle regularly to beat other teams goalies. It’s a talent issue. No good shooters not many good passers not good puck handlers. Like they’re just not very good. It’s the cards we were dealt in this rebuild and wr are absolutely stuck with it unless we decided enough is enough

They do not have the talent to win without a goalie.

This. Championship teams have better star players...star players that were able to get into the playoffs in their first 5-6 years.

How often do star players win a cup when they don't make the playoffs in their first 5 years? Can't really think of one.

We pay a lot of money so these guys can go home and snort their body weight in cocaine. Need to hold them to a higher standard. And so does the GM.

Go down there and threaten trades.

Yeah. We’re two years from the playoffs. Then maybe 4-5 after that we COULD have a chance. Stutzle tkatchuk Sanderson contracts will be up. Are we re upping them ? Why ?

Tear it down now. Maybe we get Mckenna and we ACTUALLY draft well

Eichel is like 4 magnitudes better than anything we have a got traded to a star team. So yea a special case

Aves were pretty bad for a long time before they weren't. They're my 'grasping at straws' comparable for this team.

Timmy and Brady are not support guys lol.

They can't carry a team on their own like a McDavid or Matthews but they're elite nonetheless.

Now when it comes to Norris, Bath and an older Giroux, I agree, but it's not like you need more than two elite forwards as well as an elite dman and goalie(Ullmark will be back to his old self) to compete.

It all comes down to maturity. This means sticking to the system even when the other team is bringing it hard, and not taking "weak" opponents lightly. If they could do that they'd be a playoff team. Whether they can ever do that with this group is a big question, but I think talent-wise they're good enough.

As soon as their current core was put together it was playoffs.

Rantanen's second season? Playoffs.
Makars first season? Playoffs.

The stars that win championships for their teams generally make the playoffs almost right away, or as soon as they establish themselves...they lead their team into the playoffs and then it becomes "how far?"

With us, were like 4-5-6 years into their careers and we haven't sniffed the playoffs and yet there was still people excited about this core calling anyone who questioned it haters.

We need a massive 50 contract overhaul of this organization.

Buffalo played really well tonight. No matter how you look at it, it's incredibly frustrating to be 6-6. We can't find the consistency to string anything together.

The narrative surrounding the team is that we've finally gotten over the hump and teams are taking notice.. Well, we're .500.

It will obviously help to have zub back. But I'm getting some of the vibes of the last 2 seasons, where we just find ways to lose. Hope we can figure it out.

They have enough talent to make the playoffs if they played a complete game, for sure.

But this team doesn't have the personnel to play a complete consistent game.

And they're not talented enough to win a championship. We need to somehow draft a superstar or hit the jackpot with a Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Alfie/stone type of late pic.

It’s not about weak opponents. It’s about opponents who are playing hard. Every team plays 82. All of them have some sleepy games.

We play great when the other team is sleepy.

When we face a team who is playing hard. We can’t compete. We aren’t good enough.

We are good enough to slaughter unaware opponents. Not good enough to go toe to toe with ANYONE.
and if the other teams goalie is playing wel?????
Forget it we legit do not have the shooting talent to pull a result lol.

3 results this year were “stick to the system but also wtf was the other team doing”.

Kings. Kuemper was horrid.

Blues they didn’t show up.

Seattle same thing. Seattle brought nothing for two periods.

Stutzle should be like a superstar centers winger. Or second line center to a juggernaut. Instead he’s asked to do everything and he just does. Not. Have. It.

Tkatchuk the same. Like would love tkatchuk as a heart and would type.

But now he’s gotta be heart and soul. Be good defensively (or dominate enough that he doesn’t need to play defense ) AND produce monster points?? No. He can’t. That’s not him.

But this is who we have.

Look at our division. (Today and past)
Tkatchuk barkov.
Matthew’s marner nylander.
Kucherov stamkos Hedman
Marchand and Bergeron.

Like… that’s just our division.

Like we’re kinda the leafs if the leafs has super ass coaching for 6 years instead of Babcock/keefe and no Matthew’s and marner.

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying they're second line players. They are very much first line players.

It's just, I look at a lot of past championship teams (where the core would be retired) and a lot of them would have multiple hall of fame players on it.

I don't think we have multiple hall of fame level players here...and therefore, I don't think we have the core to win a championship here.

Ideally these guys are not your first liners. And if they are. They’re not making 8 million and you can pay for more support.

Maybe one of them can play on the first line but they CANT be the best play on the line

They are definitely first liners in the sense that each team has 3, and there are 32 teams. That's 96 first line forwards. They are top 96 no question.

I agree with you that I think to win a championship, we would need another forward better than both of them. A true superstar and they would be your 2-3 punch.

For this team to excel, Sanderson, Norris and Pinto need to dominate defensively, otherwise we are too one dimensional in that Brady, Bath, Timmy and Chabot are guys that will drive your offence but they aren’t gonna ever be driving things defensively. Maybe Timmy gets there someday.

The problem is Sanderson is saddled to Hamonic at the moment and Pinto is out. But I also don’t think Norris or Pinto are quite there yet. Neither have played 200 NHL games.

Our core just isn’t as balanced as you need them to be. You can have a one dimensional star, but then somewhere else someone has to be the 200 ft player. It’s why we struggle on the road imo, just don’t have the horses to grind out games where you need to tighten up defensively. I don’t think we’re bad, but we might struggle to be above average.

Anyway… onto the next one. Hopefully we get Zub back for it.

Extra extra, read all about it! Average team has average results! The excitement is over, the hope is gone. Was hoping a good goalie would drag us into the playoffs, but yet another goalie digging his grave on the sens. Here is to missing the playoffs when Toronto and Boston are finally beatable, but we are still slightly below their level. Ouch.

I could compromise on that.

And we need offense from the blue line. Chabot and Sanderson off basically nothing 5v5 and they both hinder our PPs.
