If Canada wins Gold but doesn't get to play Russia again I don't even know if I'd be satisfied after this beat down.

Blaming goaltending is just an excuse. How many of these non-Canadian gold and silver medal winners over the past 20 years went on to huge success compared to the Canadian goalies? I have to pay attention to my new puppy so I'm not looking it up.

We used to have really good goaltending in international tournaments which was sort of an equalizer when it came to the inconsistent strength of our rosters.

I don’t think we realized how much we relied on it during some of those streaks of gold medal wins.

Goaltending without a doubt is a problem for our program. The last decade and more, the way they’ve choked is ridiculous. They aren’t the only problem, but they have contributed a lot.

The Hunters are dinosaurs, other programs are finally integrating more intelligent ways of playing hockey, which the Hunters will never be able to do.

Hockey Canada needs to adapt.

That was 2 years ago.

Fucale put up better numbers than that and I wouldn't consider him a good goalie.

Fucale, Hart and maybe as far back as Price have been the only high profile goalies to play for Team Canada before they played there.

Canada needs to get a better program for goalies.
Fucale was overated because of the powerhouse mooseheads team he played for at the time..

Your also a Canucks fan that has more of rooting interest in your teams prospect than actually rooting for Canada lol.
Yes, because it's just a junior tournament that happens every year so i choose to root for my team's prospects instead. If it's a big stage like Olympic or an actual world cup then it's a different story

Let's not jump off the ledge, boys. This is one game and if we have learned nothing from this tournament, we've learned a round robin leg laying means nothing.

I've written everywhere that the Russian's were clearly better than us and that I expect them to see the Russians in the semi's. It was a weird game that we somehow won.

Canadians have a long standing history of grit and comebacks.. let's see one! Not because I think Russia isn't good.. I think they're tremendous but.. so is Canada. I think Finland once had a 5-0 lead on Sweden (or vice versa) and came back too.

Unlikely, sure.. but Canada does a lot of unlikely things.

Speaking of unlikely.. who had 6-0 Russia after 2? I was thinking 1 goal game.
I was thinking a 2-2 after two before the game

Just curious, who’s the last projected 2nd overall player to play as “meh” as Byfield has this tournament?

I think MacKinnon was projected as #2 at this point and IIRC he basically played 4th line minutes and had 1 point in 6 games.
So clearly Byfield is a bust already!

Also as bad as the goalie and defense of Canada has looked, I can't really remember one positive play a Canadian forward has made since Laf went down...

Lafreniere was invisible last year at the same age (17 year old season).

MacKinnon also did nothing as a 17 year old. Prospects like Seguin, Marner, etc... didn't even make the team.

They've needed to adapt for a few years and really haven't.

Hockey Canada is like the Edmonton Oilers. Old boys club. It isn't a coincidence that one of the top guys of the Oilers was once one of the top guys of Hockey Canada.
