“@MGaborik10: What other shows r good? Suspense and drama like? Im on 3rd season of Breaking Bad and love it! Walter is the best! #breakingbadâ€

If Gaborik elevates his play after returning from injury, we already know how he'd get it done. :naughty:

Part of the CBA, you can't stop a player from going to the Olympics right?
1)What happens if Gaborik claims he's healthy but the Blue Jackets says not yet. He could still go and Jarmo won't beable to do anything about it?

2)As much as he really wants to play in the Olympics, would he rush himself knowing that he's a up coming UFA? Another injury could effect his next contract, both terms and length.

3)Healthy or not, I don't want him going as I'm afraid he'll get injured. In fact, it's not just him. I would have prefered less Blue Jackets making the Olympics. Not just injuries but would rather have rested players for the final push to the playoffs.

the team has to clear him before he can play in the Olympics...

Sam Gagner...

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=440646#YourCallTop

Dreger: We will also continue watch the speculation around the Edmonton Oilers and Sam Gagner, there is no question the Oilers would consider moving him. The expected rate of return would be a top-six forward, a top-four defenceman or a starting goalie.

Well, that should make things interesting.

Why do I post this in our Marian Gaborik thread? Not because I think the Jackets could/should/would trade him for Sam Gagner, but because of the potential domino effect of such a huge return for a borderline top-6 forward with an expiring contract.

Say the Oilers find someone gullible enough to trade them a young-ish starting goaltender (for arguments' sake, one of Scrivens or Jones from the Kings) ... the return for an actual top-6 guy (perhaps, on many teams, a top line guy) like Gaborik could be astronomical.

This is all hinging on speculation and should not be taken seriously ... but if Craig MacT can find someone willing to drop that kind of asset on a guy averaging less than 0.5 points per game, with a -17 rating in 33 games, then we'll be in great shape.

That is of course, unless that team is us.

What's different is Gagner isn't on an expiring deal, a center (more attractive than winger), and doesn't have as deep as of injury history as Gaborik. I don't think it affects the Gaborik thing very much, but I hope you're right.

Personally I don't think we will be able to trade him for what we traded/what he's worth. I think he ends the season here and moves on.

I hope he DOES play in Sochi.
It would get him up to speed for our playoff run, or raise his trade value.

My mistake - I mis-read and thought his contract was up after this year.

At any rate, the point is made ... would Derick Brassard alone have been enough to bring us a top-4/top-6/starting goalie return? Because that's a player comparable to Sam Gagner.

According to interview with Mr. Vujtek (Slovak NT coach) in Slovak press, Gáborik's treatment is going very well. Everything depends on appointment with doctor at 24/1/2014. If results will be ok, he will be available to his NHL team three weeks before Sochi!

He also said that if Gaborik will not be completely fit he will not play in Sochi. He don't want to risk.

I hope he isn't rushed back. Lord knows what % of his injuries were a result of prior hurtsies not fully healing.

I've seen on evidence we are rushing back players. Bob and Horton seemed fine.

The only chronic one appears to be MacKenzie and I'm not sure that's going to go away completely until the off season; if then.

Good points. Props to the medical staff on these two.

Does our med staff have the override on Sochi?

I heard JD on Common Man today and the answer is basically yes. The medical staff give the final clearance to play. After they give the clearance, Gaborik is free to play in the Olympics. If they don't, he can't play.

I really think the Jackets should give him another year. You can't just give up on a guy who puts up 12 points in 18 games. When he is healthy he can put up numbers.

I got the sense that Gaborik is interested in playing for Columbus. He skated hard and took hits to make plays (like when he broke his collar bone leading to the goal against Philly). After having seen numerous high salary players just mail it in here, that's not what is going on I think.

That said, he isn't getting younger and those injuries are a major problem. If they think they can use the cap space better, that may be the smart move.

After you resign everyone you want but Gaborik, you have $9 million or so to spend. What do you do?

I have no problem keeping him and giving another year to stay healthy and prove himself. He'd have to do it at a discount though. We're talking 50% discount. No way he gets 7.5 after his general play in NY and injury problems over the last 2 years.

I have been on the "trade Gabby" bandwagon. However, if Gabby can get it going, I wouldn't mind seeing a 1 year deal like you mention. We would also find out how bad he wants to stay in Columbus.

Is it just me, or is this setting up for Gaborik to play with Arty and Horton when he returns? Jenner seems the most likely to sit, be assigned or play on the fourth line.

It's a tricky thing because it's a whole different dynamic there if that happens. I know lots of fans wouldn't like it because of Boone's physical presence (and that he's pretty strong on the puck). Boone has that occasional moment when he'll dominate, too. But he's inconsistent (not unexpected for a kid). And I'm not sure Ryan's or Dubi's line should be messed with.
