I think it was directly after his goal where Rimer said he spoke to Gaborik and Gaborik says he feels a sense of entitlement to the team since he's been injured for so long so many times that he wants to stay and show management what he can really do. He likes the city and the makeup of the team, and would like to stay.

Rimer did say that...and others i know have too...he loves it here and has settled in

Thanks, guys. I hope that means that he'd be willing to stay for the kind of incentive-laden contract that his injuries and age allow, I'm not anxious to try to replace his scoring potential from within and doubt that it would come cheap from without.

No, in fact it would borderline impossible to replace from within or out, a 30 goal scorer. We have maybe 2 other guys on the roster with that potential, and I don't see any FA potential for that calibre of offensive production.

If anything positive can be taken from the Jersey game its Gaborik scoring a nice Gaborik style goal.

I would love to ser Gaborik stay but I can't imagine his agent would let him take a significant pay cut to do so. I don't want to see the CBJ pay $7MM a year which is my concern. Also would expect a long term.

I suspect that his days of 7MM are over. I doubt there are too many teams eager to offer him term at this point.

I have no doubt his agent will be seeking that. They might find a sucker, but I'm guessing he's not a day one free agent period acquisition.

That could all change with an incredible performance the rest of the way; including a deep run into the playoffs. However, I suspect he might start to slip down into the 5 million range. He should still be treated as a 30 goal scorer, but not in the 40 goal range.

Agree. Would love to see him sign here for 5 mill for 3 years. Or maybe a Horton like contract with minimal $ in years 4 & 5 to keep the cap hit around 5. Say 3 x 7 plus 2 & 2?

I'd be worried about keeping him for too long (he is 32, after all), but otherwise I'd be all for either deal.

3 or 4 years is the max I would go. If we could get 3 yrs for $18MM or 4 yrs for $22MM I would probably be good with that. Ideally I would prefer a 3 year deal. Of course the lower the cost the better but there will be a market for him this off season. He can still get 30+ goals for another few years. Can he stay healthy?

That really sucks, but I will say this, BJ's seemed to have gotten better ever since Gaborik went down. I'm sure getting Nathan Horton & Sergie Bobrovsky healthy around that time had something to do with it, but you Blue Jacket fans have got to love how this team has rallied around each other in the void of their superstar.

I would rather look at the list of available FA's before signing Gaborik. I've seen nothing from his past this year that would make me want to resign him

He's only played 21 games ( I think) 6 goals. Given he was coming off surgery at the beginning and the last two after the collar bone a roughly 24 goal pace doesn't strike me as terrible. He could be a 30 goal guy if he stays healthy. We don't have many (any?) of those on the team. To judge him on this season seems foolish.

But trading him for a strong return wouldn't be the worse thing that the Jackets could do either.

I am happy either way it turns out with him. Just hope he doesn't walk for nothing or we get a 2nd round pick for his rights.

Go at it http://capgeek.com/ufa-finder/?position_id=F

The names who I'd consider are Mason Raymond & Moulson. But on a pro rata basis neither are having a better season than Gaborik. If I knew I had my choice between Gabby and Vanek, I'd take Vanek - he is definitely going to cost more but I don't really care about the $.

I'm leaning toward trading Gabby at this point. I've gone back and forth a hundred times on this, but prices seem to be high around the NHL and I'd like to see what we can get.

Im feeling the same way as I thought we were getting a power forward. Maybe its part of his recovery, but he never finishes a check, just turns away.

Actually, he's surprised me with some of the puck handling skill he's displayed. I don't really expect to see him at full go until next season.
