“@RobMixer: Gaborik will travel with #CBJ to California, Todd Richards said. Won’t play though…a “target date” could be just after Olympic break.”

“@smitchcd: #CBJ Marian Gaborik will travel with team next week but won't play, coach Todd Richards said. No sense yet if he will b cleared for Sochi.”

I suppose it is in CBJs interest that Gaborik plays asap, even if that means in Sochi, so you either get him in form/showcase for a possible trade, or have additional reasons for a cut in his salary demands.
Eitherway, I'm sceptical he'll play in Sochi.

Not at all if you're going to keep him for the playoffs and then let him go. Then I say rest him good for the playoffs.

Sorry, there's almost no chance he plays in Sochi.

Is Marian Gaborik coming back before the trade deadline?

What's the update on his injury?

“@smitchcd: #CBJ on the ice in Ice Haus. Marian Gaborik (collarbone) and Blake Comeau (knee) among them. Neither in red sweater.”

Gaborik coming back is good news, particularly with Tyutin. The question is where do they play him? Put him Anisimov and Calvert, moving Camsanity back with DMac and Test Tube? Do you stick him on the wrong side with RyJo and Horton, moving Boone back as he has been very effective, particularly of late with his strong, physical game. That line has a lot of power? Move RJ out and put him with Dubi and Foligno?

Hmmmm.

Either way we end up with a killer fourth line. And you lose defense on whatever line Gabby plays on.

My choice:

Jenner/Johansen/Horton
Foligno/Anisimov/Gaborik
Calvert/Dubinsky/Atkinson
Letestu/MacKenzie/Umberger

I fourth it. This is the same forward unit I sketched out a month or so ago, though I think there's also a good case for occasionally trying Umby in Calvert's spot whenever Calvert flags, and keeping Tropp on the fourth line (yes, it feels strange to say, but putting Umberger on the fourth line might make it worse, not because he's uniquely terrible but because they've been on fire lately).

Thanks for the link. I love what he has to say.

“I don’t think we have to do anything,†Kekalainen said. “We have good chemistry. We have a lot of good qualities about us. I like the structure of our team, the roles that have evolved.

“I’m comfortable with our depth on defense,†he said. “I talked to Fedor today, and he said he’s feeling great. I get the feeling he’s going to be back in the lineup sooner than we thought.â€

If it's not broke, don't fix it. Gaborik should be viewed as a good rental for the rest of this season, and who knows, maybe he lights it up and we decide to bring him back.

i'm not planning on too much when it comes to GMJK and this team. The Gaby deal last year came out of left field and I expect there to be another move of the sort this year...Gaby can stay, he could be sent off...I don't put much stock into what comes from a Porty article...

I agree. I have been on the "trade him" band wagon but the think he is a perfect "acquisition" now. Love how the lines look and leave the team chemistry in tact. I think most teams would love a healthy Gaborik down the stretch. As a certain TV guy would say...he is just what the doctor ordered.

In other words you don't put much stock in what the GM says publicly?
