So if Gaborik doesn't work out...we're stuck with a bad contract for 1.15 years. I think that's a small risk to take for someone who has played at world class levels and is looking for a fresh start.

That wasn't the point I was making.

I actually think Nash is the better player as well. Was just pointing out that when the players were on the other teams, many a Rangers fan kept telling us that Gaborik was better.

We all know fans are defensive of their own players. Gaborik is definitely more of a sniper. There have been times where Nash has the puck in the high slot and he takes an extra second to shoot and I would think, "Gaborik would have shot that." He (Gaborik) has a very quick release.

#CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen says he sees Gaborik "as a long term solution, not just a short-term fix."

#CBJ RW Vinny Prospal reached out to Gaborik earlier in the day.

Looks like he had to be convinced..

It's crossed my mind to wonder what happens with Vinny in light of this development. Better chance management wants to keep him around next year, which is what it boils down to

I laugh at some Columbus fans worrying about Gaborik disappearing at times, does everyone forget what Nash played like here for his last few years? Yes Nash has more skill, i don't think you'd find anyone that would disagree but at the end of the day Gaborik has put up the points in his career. I'm quite excited and although this is still a defensive system he'll probably have more room to think offensively then he did in New York. Also yes Dorsett is a gritty guy and you have to respect those guys but we have Calvert, Boll and Dubinsky when he gets back to being healthy that play that game minus most of the minor penalties so he won't be nearly the loss some people are fearful of.

I think his shoulder injury has hurt him a little this year. I expect him to recover and still be a 30 goal scorer, though, he hasn't ben relying on his shot the last while. He's a smart player, he adjusts when he needs to. That said, he's limited. Not a puck control player, not someone who will carry the puck and start the play. He is an elite finisher and gets into open spots on the ice like no other, though. H

THe CBJ need a guy willing to take a shot from the wheel house/slot, anyone who likes to shoot is welcomed... speaking of shoulder injuries, Brass has had two if I recall correctly-once from fighting.

Land of no calls..
Hopefully Gaborik can rebound for you guys, and I think he should. He's a tremendously emotional guy. Not in the sense that he shows it on the ice, but that his state of mind really dictates his play. It's pretty clear he was feeling unwanted here in NY, and it seemed to really effect his performance.

In terms of who to play him with, I hope he gets some time with Vinny P. They had great chemisty when they were both in NY. Artie also played very well with him last season on a line with Stepan as their center.

Gaborik on TSN: "It's good that somebody actually wants you on the team."

Doesn't sound happy with what transpired between him and Tortorella.

All of this interesting.

Not only that, he's a tradeable asset come this time next year. Much like Jagr was for Dallas.

Sounds like he will fit in perfectly with Johansen.

Torts is a Mike Keenan type, he wants 'his guys' otherwise he will refuse to adapt to a player's strengths. Keenan nearly destroyed the careers of Amonte and Weight.

I have no doubt Gaborik will score at a 35-40g pace the rest of his career.

His shots per/game ratio is still relatively similar to years past. His shooting percentage is very unsustainablely low however to his career average.

If he shot at his career average, he'd have 15 goals this season, which correlates to 35 goals over an 82 game season. He is just very snakebitten and was used as a scapegoat to hide the bigger problems with the team.

CBJ fans wanted a scorer, no one does it better than Gaborik.

I'm glad we were able to get Steven Delisle back in the fold.

:sarcasm:

Lots of upside potential on this deal. This isn't the Gabby of 5 years ago, but that's okay. Get the feeling Jarmo will be active this off-season.

Ranger fan here. I'm not happy with this trade at the moment. Can you guys fill us Ranger fans in on your thoughts on Moore?

Gabby should be a nice pickup for you guys. I wouldn't worry too much about his stats this season. He's a pure sniper and Tortorella's garbage system always has 3 forwards behind the net. You can't score many goals from behind the net. Gaborik is still getting solid chances and his shot still looks great. His skating is still there too. If CBJ plays a better offensive system, he'll inject some life into the team. He plays well with Vinny, Dubi and AA so he should be able to find some immediate chemistry. Good luck with the rest of the season. I'm a Ranger and CBJ fan now with a bunch of my favorites playing for your side these days.
