Lots of upside potential on this deal. This isn't the Gabby of 5 years ago, but that's okay. Get the feeling Jarmo will be active this off-season.

I don't doubt that. Based on this deadline, he isn't screwing around. 90% Gaborik > 150% Brassard.

Torts is a Mike Keenan type, he wants 'his guys' otherwise he will refuse to adapt to a player's strengths. Keenan nearly destroyed the careers of Amonte and Weight.

I have no doubt Gaborik will score at a 35-40g pace the rest of his career.

His shots per/game ratio is still relatively similar to years past. His shooting percentage is very unsustainablely low however to his career average.

If he shot at his career average, he'd have 15 goals this season, which correlates to 35 goals over an 82 game season. He is just very snakebitten and was used as a scapegoat to hide the bigger problems with the team.

CBJ fans wanted a scorer, no one does it better than Gaborik.

That was the main focus for any CBJ trades made today based on what JD/JK have said in the press.. Anisimov will shoot a rock at the net if given the opportunity, hopefully Gabby will do the same... goals follow shots but for now I'll take shots and hope for the rest.

Yup. Gaborik was good with Anisimov last year, Anisimov was his LW partner for the majority of the year.

Gaborik played with Dubinsky the year before to start the season, but the chemistry was sorta off.

The year before with Prospal and Christensen, he had the best year of his career. Prospal did the weightlifting on that line, but Gaborik was the finisher. These two were great to watch.

So it's now become Gabby, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon and 1st rounder (in a strong 2013 draft) for Nash, Brassard, Moore, Dorsett and a 6th. We made out of very well, especially if that 1st rounder turns into something good

Brassard is a good player with a laser shot (he never uses) that's a good passer.

Moore is a good first pass defenseman, great skater, and sound defensively. Underperforming offensively though.

Dorsett is a heart and sole player who will do anything.

Hate to see Dorse go... but my thoughts is he and Boll still played a partially redundant enforcer roll on the team, and you gotta give to get and someone has to go to make the team better... no matter how much the community likes them.

Anyway, I was thinking about it and this is how the full deal played out...

To NYR:

F Rick Nash
D Steven Delisle (Prospect)
Conditional 3rd Round Pick (2013) -- *Rangers win the cup... so they're getting this.

F Derick Brassard
F Derek Dorsett
D John Moore
6th Round Pick (2014)

To CBJ:

F Brandon Dubinsky
F Artem Anisimov
D Tim Erixon
1st Round Pick (2013)

F Marian Gaborik
D Steven Delisle (Prospect)
D Blake Parlett (Prospect)

Looking at it like that, I think we won this deal. Team definitely looks better, imo.

Overall, I think it's a good trade day for CBJ, and we kept all 3 1st's this year!

I guess this kinda seals the deal on whether Prospal plays another year here! Get him signed JK!!

Davidson is personally flying to pick up Gaborik and he will be in the line up tomorrow

What can we trade you for JD? haha We loved him as our color commentator for years on the Rangers broadcasts, then he goes to St. Louis and we all wished NY would have fired Sather and moved him from the broadcast booth to the GM office. I think JD will do great things for Columbus, working with your GM. He has a great eye for building a team.

If that doesnt show that we want him here, nothing will.

Obviously Gaborik will be crushed, I wouldn't put too much stock into it.

Despite what the media pundits will say, he pretty much gave it his all for the majority of his NYR tenure. He played with one good shoulder in the playoffs last year and was still the team's best winger.

He's devastated since he really thought he was going to finish his contract here. He thought he was going to be relieved of pressure when Rick Nash arrived to not put the team on his back offensively like he has the past years. He thought he would be playing for a cup contender.

Frankly, I'd be more concerned if the guy was ecstatic to leave. Anyone remember how crushed Mike Richards was in his opening press conference at the time of his trade? Like Mike, Marian has something to prove and he'll play with a chip on his shoulder.

Brassard was penciled in as the 1C at the beginning of 2009-2010 and he **** the bed so hard I can't even put it into words. He was too young.

They've spent some time together on the PP if I remember correctly.

They were OK. He would force passes to him and teams would just leave Brassard alone because all he would do is give it to him.

The Rangers were desperate to remove Gab's salary and probably an "unhappy" player in the locker room. I think that was the bottom line for Sather. He probably demanded a 1st in return but The BJs stood pat- which was smart.

As a Ranger fan I am fond of every single ex-Ranger on your team. And JD is one of the best people this league has ever seen. It will be difficult to be in the same division next year but I will root hard for you this year.

Still unsure just what the Rangers are right now, but they will now have little problems resigning all their RFA's, which was a huge issue before today.

The problem is Columbus this season is playing a defensive, shot blocking style, akin to say the Rangers.

... but takes stupid penalties at the worst times.

Moore is the best player of the three. Brassard is destined for Torts doghouse. With his weak face-off % and soft defense, you definitely don't want him on your 3rd line.

Rangers played that way last year. He also played under Lemaire in Minny, he has no problems in a defensive system.

The only thing Gaborik is struggling with is his goal scoring, otherwise he's been playing pretty much the same way he did last season. He just has an low shooting percentage. He put his best stats under Torts and Lemaire.

I wouldn't put that stock on to Nash going forward if I were a Ranger fan... :sarcasm:

Really like this deal. Love how crafty Jarmo is, I don't think any of the former GMs pull this off.

This is how a trade deadline is suppose to feel!! Gaborik is entering a contract year next year, and you would think his numbers will be fantastic. Should be fun to watch. I know people have criticized the money and shortness of contract, but that shouldn't be an issue. Im actually glad the contract is short, lets see how he pans out in a CBJ uniform first. And the money is only for one more year.

As for Brass, Moore and heck even Mase in the other deal, don't let the door hit you ...... But for Derek Dorsett. Ugh. All time favorite Jackets player no question about it.

Gabby is back together with Dubinsky and Anisimov and his best years were in a small market. And I bet you anything those guys talked to him before this went through.

Davidson and Jarmo definitely put their mark on this team today. Their team moving forward. Exciting times we are living in! Think about this. Gaborik waived his no trade clause, for a team that Nash couldn't wait to leave. Amazing what some good, new leadership does.

GO JACKETS!!
