We could have traded Dick Tarnstrom for Sidney Crosby and there would be morons who'd b!tch about it because they have a mancrush on DickT.

Have some perspective people.

We traded a border line 2nd line center who is overpaid and we didn't want, plus a 3rd pairing d-man who MIGHT develop into a 2nd pairing d-man, plus a 4th line winger who's out for the season for a legitimate 40 goal scorer.

We still have 3 first round picks and we're now in a stronger position to make the playoffs. We're in good shape.

Trust me there is no one in our locker room who wouldn't rather have Marian F-ing Gaborik than any of the scrubs we gave up.

The rational part of me completely agrees with this. However, I confess significant frustration when the "scrubs" we traded compile 5 points within 8 hours of being traded from Cbus.

For what it's worth Brian Boyle also had 4 points that game and i don't think Ranger fans are planning a parade because of it haha. The secret is Torts never had a chance to have Moore and Brassard in practice yet

In my mind, we all know this team was going to need to get some goal scoring in the offseason to truly compete next year. They just happened to get at least part of that job done earlier than expected. This is easily the biggest deadline trade ever for Columbus.

He's had a down year, but I am trying to look at the positive on this one. He appears to have had a somewhat toxic relationship with their coach. He actually waived his NTC to come to Columbus. He's probably motivated to kick a little butt now.

As if the Rangers v CBJ games weren't already exciting enough with the Nash factor. Now it's the Gabby/Dubi/Arty/Vinny vs Dorse/Brass/Rick factor.

I'll miss the intangibles Dorse brings. Always liked him more than Boll myself. I do believe that long term John Moore will probably be the best piece involved in the trade, though. Erixson and Murray help ease the pain of that loss for me right now, though.

I'm thrilled Brass had a great night. Deep, deep down 4 points stings a little but I'm really just happy for him. Likewise with JohnnyMoore. Don't really get why some Ranger fans have to bash Gabby at all turns when most of us just want our former guys to succeed but different strokes for different folks I guess. At least a lot of them are being gracious.

^^^ this guy, for example, is cool lol!

Gaborik was a whipping boy for some of our fanbase. I'll never understand it he scored 40 goals for us twice and is by all accounts a great teammate. Don't think it's because he's off the team now that our fans are hating on him, they hated him while he was here. Just irrational!

I hope he scores 40 for you next year and proves all the dbags wrong. Though let all those goals be against the Devils, Isles, Pens and Flyers please :D Oh who am I kidding the guy scored 5 goals against us when he was with the Wild :cry::help:

Thank you Vinnie Prospal
I'm sure he had something to do with making Gaborik agree to come.

Also its been reported Gaborik spoke with JD and Nash prior to okaying the deal. Pierre Mcguire said Nash highly recommended Columbus.

I love that Brass started with such a bang. His inevitable regression will be that much sweeter.

Brass started out with a bang once upon a time with the CBJ. He was the rookie of the month. He was outplaying everybody, Nash included every night for that whole month.

Then he picked a fight with James Neal. James Neal laughed, shouted "har har puny human" and ripped his shoulder out of his socket.

Then he de-volved into that kind of bubble 2nd line center that he is today.

Like Gaborik, he and Umberger were our whipping boys, for some reason.

Well, when one dimensional skill guys don't produce, they don't accomplish much. Seems like Brass will be like Gabby in a way that if he doesn't score he's invisible. I know I have been frustrated with Gabby ALL season due to his invisibility.

Thankfully for NYR, Brass is the 3rd line center. If the 3rd line center isn't scoring, you can still win games.

He won't be asked to play over his head in New York. He'll probably play the same amount of time per game but he'll be playing on the third line. Stepan and Richards are great as 1 & 2. I think that's always been his biggest problem in Columbus. He also won't have the "We spent the 6th overall pick on him!" stigma that a lot of homegrown guys who don't live up to the hype get. I saw the same thing with Klesla in Columbus, too.

"Gaborik has represented Slovakia on the international stage on numerous occasions, including the World Junior Championships, World Under-18 Championships, World Cup, IIHF World Championships and the Olympics.
Selected to three NHL All-Star Games, Gaborik won the MVP Award at last year's All-Star Game in Ottawa. He was also named to the 2011-12 NHL Second All-Star Team.
Gaborik has scored 18 goals and 17 assists in 54 career playoff games, including 17 points in the Minnesota Wild's improbable run to the 2003 Western Conference Final. He remains the Wild's all-time leader in goals and points."

Hard to not like a guy with a pedigree like that

I remember... I think he injured a shoulder in the minors too (same one I don't know)... But in fairness to Brassard, when Neal tore his arm off his body he showed major cajones fighting the dude... He does have heart...

If it makes you feel better, the Pens' decided to re-enact their playoff performance from last year. Minus the offense. :(

He does indeed. Was frustrated by how easily he was knocked off the puck, but he always impressed me with his heart. I hope his outburst tonight isn't short-lived.

If Brassard is on the third line , he'll be playing out of his ability. He is not capable of playing a checking role and is below average in the faceoff circle. This is exactly why he was expendable. He 's a tweener--not good enough offensively to be a top 6 forward and not good enough defensively to play on a checking line.

Those reports been confirmed via Jarmo and JD during their press conference. Also, kudos for Nash unless Sather told him to say all these things to convince Gaborik. Or maybe he wanted to be reunited with Brassard. But joking aside, I think Nash meant everything that he said to Gaborik. Class act

This does not affect tomorrow at all - that is why it is a great trade.

Dorse is basically a 3rd liner/energy/goon. Great guy but expendable. John Moore is young, but let's be honest - he was expandable because we already have Murray/Erixon/Golubouf/Prout, plus Wiz/Jack/Nikita, so we are set with defense on top of whoever we take in the first round this year.

With Johansen/Jenner/Anisimov/Dubie we have the center depth to deal Brassard who was not a part of our future after the last couple disappointing seasons.

We gave up no high draft picks, top prospects, or any major core pieces. We added a sniper who will make all the young guys better and score some goals for the next couple years

This.

At first I thought it was a super ballsy move by Jarmo, but upon some reflection, my thinking switched to the quoted poster's viewpoint.

If Gaborik doesn't work out, it will not cause the franchise much harm unless Moore turns out to be something special.

Brassard's mediocre days were numbered in Columbus. Dorsett-though my favorite player-does not possess a unique skill set. Moore has hardly looked like the second coming. Giving up Moore's potential is certainly worth the risk of having a seven time 30 goal scorer who is just 31 years old come to your goal-starved franchise.

Having Mason traded on the same day just adds to this trade.

Now if only Jarmo could have traded RJU..........

But there's always the amnesty buyout option. Marian makes a lot of dough.:D

I think you're right if the third line is a "hard-minutes" line. But some teams spread out the hard minutes. I don't know for sure, but I'm under the impression that Torts does specialize players somewhat, but nothing to a Vigneault level. He probably will know not to use Brassard like a checking center. That means harder minutes for Stepan and Brad Richards.

Hope that Gaborik has as much of an impact for you guys tonight that Brass and Moore had for the Rangers last night.

Gaborik may not have been having a great season, but he is a prolific goal scorer and I hope he re-discovers that touch for you down the stretch.

Also look forward to having you guys in the division next season.

Good luck this season.

regarding Brassard's role, I think for this Rangers team, having him on the 3rd line is going to be perfect.

He's going to have Boyle on his wing so he will take the defensive draws. With Boyle and Hagelin he's going to be surrounded with some very solid and capable defensive players so anything he lacks there can be somewhat covered up.

I personally believe that the NHL is moving away from the typical 3rd line checkers. You have to be able to generate offence from all three lines and not designate one for just defensive purposes. Brassard may not be the typical 3rd line center, but if he is allowed the freedom to be creative and if he is asked to generate offence, then I believe he will succeed in NY as the teams 3rd line center.

Hope so anyway lol
