I hope the league considers eliminating offside reviews. Very rarely are they actually egregious enough to have directly contributed to the goal. Their effect on the game has not been a positive one since they’ve been added in my opinion.

I've mostly been of this opinion the whole time as well. I'd like to see some sort of time limit if they refuse to get rid of it. If they can't see it was definitively offside within 90 seconds, it stands. If the play was really that close that it takes 5 minutes to look at, it clearly didn't have much impact on the goal.

This one was actually a case where it was immediately clear it was offside, and the review was quick. I have no problem with challenges like this one.

I am completely indifferent on them. Offside is a clear cut binary situation and one review can prove, like in the NFL if a player is inbounds or not. We should want these calls correct imo.

It's the reviews on subjective things that waste time... like goalie interference. That's called so inconsistently that even review doesn't clear things up

The offside challenge rule would be simple, if it were implemented this way:

1- All iPads on the benches are on a 15 second delay.
2- All challenges need to be made within 10 seconds of the goal, so you can't watch the replay and then decide to challenge.
3- Challenge and the call is upheld? 2 minute penalty.

The result of this system would be that only the most obvious challenges would be made, because you have to see it in real time, and there is a large penalty if you are wrong.

I just have a problem with it in its entirety. These being a thing in the playoffs are such a buzzkill. An overturned OT playoff goal would be such a devastating thing if your team ends up losing that game. I understand the desire to get things right, but an offside is such a small negligible factor of a goal. This was clearly offsides, but it wasn’t what led to a goal.

I just don’t like goals being overturned unless it was for obvious reasons that directly led to the goal (e.g goalie interference — although that one seems to be a complete enigma most of the time too)

Yeah I don’t have a problem with this. If it’s caught live, great, challenge it and you’re good.

This one definitely could have been seen live, which would be annoying, but I’d at least be okay with this. Being able to slow down replays and review it for 1-2 minutes before the puck drops is really the problem.

I'm for the rules of the game, they are the black and white rules of the game, when you start making calls based on opinion or it was that far off to make a difference, then that opens the door for inconsistencies and calls based on opinion which everyone has and usually a different one. just my 2 cents.

Possession in the offensive zone is kind of a HUGE factor

The possession was already had, it being ended because half a skate blade was early is fine if it’s caught live. If it wasn’t caught by the individual whose sole job it is to catch that, then so be it.

Goalie interference is absolutely more impactful to the actual outcome of a goal.

Boldy needs to be aggressive and take pucks to danger areas versus take it close and then pass it out of those areas.
He does frequently, it's not like he makes that mistake every time. It's the playmaker tendency of his game that gets in the way on occasion. Yes, he needs to realize he's got the best chance in that situation, it's always an issue for playmakers though...

Yeah it worked better when he played with Fiala... draw players into non-scoring areas and pass it back into that open ice type of plays.

Merrill having the leash he has is the biggest joke in the world
