G Zach Fucale (2013, 36th, MTL)

I watched this guy over the season too and he just doesn't do it for me for whatever reason. I don't see #1 goaltender in the NHL at this point.

Merely an opinion...

Fair but remember this is the same league with starting goalies by the name of Holtby, Smith, Reimer, Elliot. I don't think I have to tell you where these players were at his age. The raw talent Fucale has is incredible. He's on the path to being a number one goaltender, and that's all you can ask for.

I see that lots of your posts are against players from the Q. Just saying.

Always criticizing guys like Fucale, Gauthier and Mantha.

Fucale's save on Bjorgstrand right before his team scored two goals to make it 5-2 was the TSN turning point.

I haven't particularly been overly impressed with him in my previous viewings, but I thought he was a game changer tonight, for sure.

Far from impressed with him.

Wouldn't touch him in the first round and I'd rather wait an extra three or four rounds and take a guy like Charlie Graham instead.

I dont think theres much of a gap between him/Comrie/Jarry/etc. considering goalies typically take 5-6 years to make the NHL, id prefer to take a top goalie prospect in the 2nd round over taking THE top goalie prospect in the 1st.

Unless I was a team like Calgary. Three first rounds picks. Bad goalie prospects, retiring starting goalie on club team. They have the draft flexibility to take a risk on Fucale first round.

When was the last time a starting goalie in his draft year, won the memorial Cup? Fucale is very impressive.

Some quick examples:
Phil Grubauer in 2010
Dustin Tokarski in 2008
Tyson Sexsmith in 2007

I've always thought Fucale was a good goalie prospect for this year, probably one of the best, but people are severely overrating him and it drives me mental. He makes 1 or 2 flashy saves in a game and people forget 2 bad goals he let's in as Halifax wins 9-2

I'm willing to bet at some point people consider him a bust, not because he's busted but because of their unrealistic expectations they've placed on him

Fucale doesn`t really let in many bad goals. He "weakness" is only that he isn`t a highlight reel, flashy goalie - he will get beat on some great chances, but game after game he will be consistent... and that`s not to say he doesn`t have that game stealing ability in him because he does. He just didn`t have to do it often this year.

He will be a great pick because he has a great head on his shoulder, and is a workhorse who brings a very consistent game every game.

exact, i agree with everything you said....goalies are very very hard to scout and to me goalies should stay in their junior league as long as they can and then go to the AHL for a year or two because they need that time.....Zach has hockey sense, great positioning, excellent read on plays, he is not flashy and makes tough saves look easy, with another year or two in the league he will start closing up his holes in his game and tighten up things, he has all the talent in the world to work with, I personally do not think people are overrating him I think people are getting to hard on him, it is hard for a goalie to not get a shot for a long time then expect a big save right off............as for the memorial cup especially in the portland game I thought Fucale played really really well, made some big saves, most of the goals he let in the mooseheads defense really broke down and left portland guys in front crashing in, pretty hard to stop that, he made the saves he was suppose to in the game and made a few saves to keep them ahead and that is what you ask of a goalie.

im a leaf fan and with our 1st i think we should take fucale... i think people are hard on this guy, every goal he gets scored on him the guy is wide open and he is 18.... in the memorial cup game he made 40 saves and people are ******** on him. this guy has franchise goalie potential written all over him, he reminds me of carey price who is also very sound in the net.... i would love for the leafs to draft him, and at worst we would have a goalie controversy and have to trade one of our goaltenders... thats not the worst problem to have, and would give Fucale all the time he would need to become an elite goalie. but i have one question, how is his puck handling skills? does he handle it well? poorly? thanks

As O said many timrs before, the scouts puttimg Fucale as the top goalie for the draft are nuts..He benefits from being on that super deep and dominant Halifax team which helps his fantastic win% ...amd he has proven he cam play a lot of games and mot break down...but thr fact is he is nothing special in efficirncy stopping pucks on his career save% history..I do not rank him amy higher than 5th best goalie prodpect for thid dtaft and even that isin dpubt...he may be worse..O have the best gooalies as 1.Tristan Jarry 2.Phillipe Desrodiers 3. Juuse Saros 4. Eric Comrie and then FUCALE at 5 but bechallenged by Spencer Martin and Belanger....Jarry is probably a once in a generation goalie prospectwho before MacKinnon proved he really was the real deal at the Mem Cup, I had at #1 overall for the draft in real value terms. .I thought Jarry was the besy prodpect any posotion coming from this draft. Now O see thay Mackinnon ought to be #1 overall but O would srill rank Jarry at #2 overall that is how good a goalie prospect I think he is..I still have Desrosiers as #9 overallbecause he too is a top ten talent..I do not feel hoalies should be penalized out of the top of the draft when you get special talents like these 2 goalies are IN MY OPINION...most Nhl teams would not risk on goalies that high..I understand that and do maybe neither even go on late round one...maybe only risked on as 2nd rounders..But this is not abour risk. . RATHER about honest evaluationfor BPA projecting future NHL impact. ..on that basis I believe Jarry and Desrosiers will have great NHL careers as top elite starting goalies...but the wait for goalies.is.longer so most GM's needing results sooner to keep their jobs willnot make the true BPA decision to include goalies early in round one because tjey could be out of a job by the 4-5 years it may take for sich a goalie pick to grab that NHL starter goalie role on his team...

Yeahh your opinion is still incredibly far-fetched.

There were times last night Fucale was seriously fighting the puck and had no clue where it was.

Goaltending is the hardest position for me to "scout", but I don't see what sets him apart.

I do like Comrie and Jarry from having seen them a bit more than Fucale, but this poise thing is a strange trait.

He's actually pretty lucky IMO, if he hadn't kicked in the Rattie hand pass (suggesting that if he got a smaller piece and hadn't kicked it straight in or had it hit the post, it would have scored....I know woulda, shoulda, coulda), and Bjorkstrand hadn't nailed the post, this game could have been different.

Like I said earlier, he did what he had to do, made the timely saves and ultimately won the game. For me I don't know what that is worth, and I never rank goalies in my top 30.

I think hawksfan50 could be on to something, but until he learns how to type his thoughts out logically and in a more readable format they'll continue to get thrown into the trash pile.

he still made 40 saves in the game, i think the poise he has in the net is something the scouts really like, it looks like he is really relaxed and doesn't flop around, great lateral movement. i dont really like taking goalies early, but i think this kid could be special, its one thing to be on a good team but be on a good team and win as a 17 year old goalie is huge.... ill take a winner any day.

Zach Fucale: 2013 NHL Draft Player Profile #24

Its rare to see a 16 year old goalie become a full-time starter in the CHL, but that is exactly what happened for Montreal native and Halifax Moosehead Zach Fucale last season. An injury to Anthony Terenzio forced Fucale into the net, and he shone for the Mooseheads, and has been the team’s number 1 goalie ever since. He even led the squad to a shocking 7 game victory over the Quebec Remparts, in what had to be the upset of the year in the 2012 QMJHL playoffs.

Love Zach. He's still got some developing to do, but he has all the tools to become a very good goalie at the NHL level. Kind of reminds me of a young Carey Price.

Hoping he falls to the Pens. But I doubt it.

There's really no telling who a steal is until they see some time in the NHL...

i was hopping the Flyers trade their 3rd + something to get Sabres 2n round pick to get him because i was 100% sure that the habs will pick him
