Fuacle and Phil Desrosiers both 2nd rounders (2013) who were amazing in QMJHL then went down the tubes in the pros.

Fucale never been dominant in the Q, he just had a great reputation because he played for an elite team and accumulated many wins quickly.

This may be an 'old man yells at cloud' moment, but EA manipulates nearly everyone to have a permanent 'scouting report' with their system. I wish they went back to having fake names even when you start playing Franchise Mode.
It's a bit tough to explain, but I've often read here how posters would complain that Kaapo is a 'bust' but yet would cry years ago if he wasn't labeled a 'Medium Elite' potential player
He's been terrific since he joined the Caps organization in 2020, though due to all of the Covid weirdness his time here has spanned just 18 games over that time frame. He was .932 in 11 games in Hershey last year and he's .933 through five games this year.
I think the door is certainly open for him to stay but probably next year as opposed to this year. The organization is clearly souring on Samsonov who had about as bad a calendar as you could have in 2020/2021 which included missing the bubble playoffs because he hurt himself on an ATV, two stints on the Covid list last season, and inconsistent (at best) performances on the ice during that span. The organization essentially gifted Samsonov the crease with the departure of Holtby and he's done nothing to show he's figuring it out to be their #1 either on or off the ice. The fact that Vanecek was a bit banged up and they started Fucale on the front of end of a B2B instead of Samsonov speaks volumes; if Samsonov doesn't start tonight it might be curtains for him.
GM Brian MacLellan gave an interview about a week ago and one of his comments on the goaltenders was that both the young guys (Vitek and Samsonov) showed progress but they needed more from them over the next 10 games or so. During that span Samsonov essentially had a meltdown against the Panthers where he was pulled after the 3rd goal on 18 shots and visibly glared at one of his defensemen after one of his goals; he was pulled shortly after and he hasn't played in the three games since.
The only thing working against Fucale is if they punt Samsonov to the moon (which seems likely barring a big turnaround) I think they'd look to bring in a veteran to share time with Vanecek... not sure they'd move forward with a crease of Vanecek and Fucale when they're eyeing hopefully a long playoff run.
