G Zach Fucale (2013, 36th, MTL)

Subban is more of an athletic goalie, and he's bigger, whereas Fucale is more positional and plays more of a butterfly, both are great goalies, but I'd say Fucale is ahead at the same age and ahead overall.

Subban is 2 years older then Fucale...

They are extremely different when comparing their strengths, there's no doubt about that. Makes the comparison all the more difficult.

I'm not trying to argue in favor of either goalie, I just want to make something clearer. In regards to the stats between the two, to me it seems closer than most think. I'm using Fucale's stats after 39 games since that's all Subban played in his draft year.

Fucale: 31-5-1-1... 2.41gaa... 0.897%... 913 shots faced
Subban: 25-14-0-0... 2.50gaa... 0.923%... 1121 shots faced

The thing that stands out the most to me is the SV%, but when you consider that Fucale's facing less of a workload, letting in a bad goal or two is going to impact his stats more than it would Subban. I'm not saying that's the reason why, but it certainly does factor in. Subban ended up with 3 shutouts after the 39 games, Fucale ended his 55-game season with only 2... so give Subban the edge there. For the record, you can argue that Zach has the better team in front of him (it is true) but I think there's more than that.

Anyone with opinions on where Fucale will be drafted, around which range do you think he'll go?! Kid seems to be a gem!

I'd really like the Hawks to pick him up with their 1st, seems like it would be a perfect spot to get him at too.

I could see the following teams pick him ( in no order) :

Islanders
Flames
Blackhawks
*Flyers ( I'm assuming they get another first round pick)

As An islanders fan, if we are going to draft Fucale, I much rather we trade down about 4/5 spots to do it. All that being said I rather we draft the BPA at 15 and I don't think Fucale is that

Your right, maybe i should have specified if the Islanders decide to trade down. Maybe if Carolina gets another mid first round pick they may pick him, considering how bad their depth in goal is.

I really don't see this kid as a sure fire NHL starting goaltender. I would have a hard time taking him in the 1st round...

I'd honestly prefer the Leafs to take a skater, but if they take Fucale I wouldn't mind. I lived in Halifax the last 5 years so I've seen him play a lot, I'd be excited to have him in the blue and white.

If only we could trade up to get Mac or Drouin.

I wouldn't draft this kid until the 2nd round. He is a product of the Mooseheads.

Just doesn't look elite for me to want to risk taking him in the 1st round...

Have to say I haven't seen a ton of this player, but what they said is true. Made the saves he had too.

Not sure what that is worth.

To me, he's a league average #1 goalie in the NHL.

He won't lose you games with stinkers, but I don't think he'll steal many either. He's steady and solid. Give him 3 goals and he'll likely win. But asking him to win 1-0 or 2-1 several times in a season may be his downfall.

Is that worth a 1st rounder in this draft?

It's hard to evaluate a goalie in this type of tournament. He is the best goaltender prospect in terms of technicality. Ahead of most of the previous 1st round goalies. You can't judge him because of a tournament. He's definitely going to be a 1st rounder. Even if he let in some late goals, never once was he not calm. Great character.

To win a QMJHL title, Memorial Cup, Under 18 Gold by the time your 18 is unreal. He's just missing a World Junior which could come in 2015 when he plays on a team with McDavid. It's hard to think this player's experiences and future experiences won't catapult him to a successful career. The goaltending position is funny because there's a lot of sub par goaltenders in terms of technical expertise that have success and others who don't because of the teams they play on. The later he's drafted is just better for his case meaning he'll be drafted into a successful organization that isn't necessarily rebuilding. To play as many games he has played, to win as much as he has, the character and mental strength needed is unreal. He's a very unique goaltender, it seems his technique is quite solid also but there's more to the game then that, and he has this intangible and you rarely see this in a young goaltender. I wouldn't be surprised if he's top 20. I'd love for the Leafs to draft him. They would finally have that special goaltender they've been missing for years. I think in 5 years or so we'll go back and remember how special this Mooseheads team was. Mackinnon, Drouin, and Fucale, three very very special players.

agreed he is going to be a 1st round pick, and like you said he is the best technical goaltender with great calmess, he has to develop a winning mentality and become stronger in nets, with those two things and when i say winning mentality i mean a guy who aggressive, challenges the shooters, takes control of the crease and forces shots rather than waiting to see what the player is going to do, he has a lot of talent to work with and a team who needs a goalie picking after 15th overall is going to take a look at this guy.
