G Thatcher Demko (2014, 36th, VAN)

So if he doesn't sign....do we know if he is a Kings or Ducks fan?

Finally a team from a non-traditional market gets to talk about a player wanting to "come home".

his dad was a kings fan but he threw out all of his **** for canucks apparel. assuming thatcher was a kings fan.

Well thats good....the Kings basically have no prospects in the line currently...and have had recent development success stories...

Let the rumors commence!

I like how the Kings had one of the better goalie pipelines in the NHL, before a couple of trades and some run-ins with the law immediately curtailed it. Good thing they have Quick. Pray he doesn't get seriously injured.

Here are his choices. (Dont blame the messenger)

1) Sign with the Canucks, drop out of college, and since we already got Miller and Markstrom, have Demko play in the AHL to develop him much like we did Schneider.

AHL salary = $67,000.

His signing bonus money is more than the AHL salary - so if he signed it would be $70,000 AHL salary + $92,500 signing bonus, = $162,500

Demko had said before that he had not talked to the Canucks but most likely would have discussions in the Summer so this isn't much of a surprise to me.
I didn't see anywhere he said or rumors about him making a decision by Monday

Lol there is zero chance he signs anywhere but as a Canuck, this is not my opinion or speculation either.

Demko should turn pro, he excelled at BU, Canucks have no AHL goalie prospect so he would be the #1 there and Miller expires next year, so maybe after next year he backs up Markstrom.

He will be a Canuck. one way or another. bank on it. Canuck haters, or any of you clowns, don't hold your breath so he can be a UFA. even if he does, he will not end up on your team anyways.

his dad was also excited for him to be in Vancouver because his dad attended UBC.

the Cali teams are not really an option for him, since all 3 teams have the number 1 goal tending job locked up by someone for at least the next 7 years.

Don't wan to be tough with Canucks fans But Markstrom is so far from being a starting goalie... is a number 2 at best

Yeah, I think a duo with Markstrom as the starter and Demko as a backup would be very solid. Then Demko taking over the duties as starter after a couple of years.
Goaltending is an area of strength.

Why would he want to sign with a team that has one of if not the best goalie in the league in Quick, or with a team that has 2 incredible goalies already...both being young

Vancouver is a no-brainer to me, they have a goalie in Miller that is at or near the end of the line, and another goalie in Markstrom, whom has had a bit of a revival in VanCity but is a better fit as a 1B, that eventually gets moved out once the 1A youngster establishes himself....that being Demko.

Vancouver is his fastest path to a starting NHL gig without throwing him to the wolves on a bottom feeder team trying to find their way at all ends of the ice like an Edmonton or Toronto or Arizona

I thought this was a Thatcher Demko thread.

All the talk seems to be about Markstrom.

On that note I wonder if Bennington guarantees Demko a roster spot next season to entice the kid to sign with the Canucks.

If he plays bad they could just send him down to the Minors.

This might not be too popular with Vets struggling to make the team but what they don't know can't hurt.

Say the Canucks invite him to camp and he plays great in the preseason.
They can make the case that hey amazing this kid is special he earned the spot.
If he faulters that's a different story.
