Easy, tiger. It's a discussion board, and people ask questions. :scared:

I spend a significant portion of my free time researching goaltenders, and I'm interested in them. I ask questions about them.

I'm sorry that you find me odd.

You overreacted. Read the post again as though the person that wrote it isn't being inflammatory but is genuinely intrigued by what the other poster is saying.

Canucks fans have sparred a lot since Benning was hired.

It would be very risky for him to go back to college - he could risk hurting his development.

He's pretty much in the perfect situation in Vancouver, there's no long-term established starter ahead of him and they've got a great reputation for goalie development.

He's ready to try an AHL workload so I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign.

Usually when someone constructs a sentence using "are you claiming Prospect A is projects better than ..." it is a passive attack on the position of the poster.

If that wasn't your intention then by all means I apologize for jumping on it. But you should be aware of that on a message board people will read and interpret your posts based on the phrasing and language you use.

Besides, the stats are there for everyone to see, so it isn't so much of a "claim" as a simple reading of the numbers that are available (and were provided in his post for you to read). So even now I'm not sure how much "elaboration" is really necessary, assuming you *were* legitimately curious.

You're overreacting.

You're overreacting.

It's a hockey board and I'm expressing my opinion on a post. I'd say that hardly qualifies as "over" reacting to anything. You're just as guilty of overreacting to my post, not that it matters much.

Okay, you're not overreacting.

I was 100% wrong, and I'll send all of my posts to you (prior to me posting them in public) to make sure that your sensitivities aren't offended. Do you want them via private message, or do you want to send me an e-mail address? (I post quite a bit, so e-mail might be easier. *Totally* your call, though).

Thanks for keeping an eye on things around here - I know we all really appreciate it.

Again, please accept my apologies.

Rough first period.

That first goal was pretty weak.

Otherwise he kept his team in the game in the 2nd and 3rd. The other 2 goals were just broken plays.

Now lets see if they can sign him.

Had an amazing third, stood on his head, alongside the other goalie.

What a season for him.

He may sign but I disagree with it hurting his development.

I don't see how anything negative comes out of him going back to school.

I would love to see him finish college with a degree.

Pro hockey can wait.

The kid has too much talent and the Canucks have plenty invested in him.

Huh? Most collegiate athletes that leave the early finish up their degrees in the summer. Signing with Vancouver does not preclude him from finishing a degree. He will develop his game a lot faster in the AHL with a pro goalie coach and better competition that he would in college.

I would argue that its no necessarily that going back to College hurts his development.... but if he would be better suited at the AHL level, than going back to college would be sub-optimal development, and I would argue does hurt his development.

Its not bad for him to go back to college... but if he should be playing in the AHL, thats the best place for him to develop.

No way we want him going back for another season.
Get him signed ASAP.
He likely needs at least one season in the minors to get ready for a full time NHL gig.

Throw in the UFA factor, and it's a no brainer.

Here are his choices. (Dont blame the messenger)

1) Sign with the Canucks, drop out of college, and since we already got Miller and Markstrom, have Demko play in the AHL to develop him much like we did Schneider.

AHL salary = $67,000.

2) Go back to school, finish his undergraduate degree hes already worked 3 years to complete. Become a UFA and sign with any team he desires.

Which one would you choose? Honestly.

Look. If Demko wanted to leave school, he would have signed today. What does he have to think about that he hasnt had 3 years to already think about. He doesnt want to cause a scene with the Canucks sitting in front of him so he puts it off so that his agent can send an email a few weeks from now.

Devils signed two of BC's best players in Wood and Santini. White might get signed, so I could see Demko going in this mass exodus

In that case he never needed to go to college in the first place.
Skip it totally and head to the OHL.
You really think one more year in college will effect his development?

He's a great kid. I hope Demko does what he wants to do.

He will be playing in the AHL regardless. He's one of the best goalie prospects in years. He's on the fast track to the NHL.
He may decide to stay another year and finish his senior season and earn his college degree ala Peyton Manning.
He may want to to elect to become a free agent and cash out. He hasn't made a decision yet and won't decide in a few weeks. I wont ever fault a guy for focusing on school and the college experience while earning a degree. High school pitchers do this all the time and it doesn't hurt their development they just end up in the majors later on. I really don't see what Vancouver offers him that other teams can't as far as opportunity and coaching. This coming from someone who truly respects the Canucks terrific eye for goalie talent. They develop goalies better than any team But this kid is a special talent and will succeed wherever he goes.
The cream always rises to the top.

Wow i'm surprised you're the one suggesting that he won't sign in Vancouver of all the people. Didn't see that one coming at all. Since day one you've been the one going on and on about Demko not signing in Vancouver, once again you decide to overthink things before a problem has even occured.

Honestly are you really a Canucks-fan? Cause i'm not sure if i've ever heard of a "fan" that's actually cheering for 3 teams in 1 league. It hasn't even been ONE day since that meeting was done between Benning and Demko, and you're already starting to write him off? Going pro is a big step for him. There's been reports from numerous insiders that a deal could get done on monday, yet you prefer acting like you actually knows the situation, adressing things before it's even monday. This is getting pathetic, i'm sorry.

He must be a Canuck fan. I think we may lead the league in chicken little fans "the sky is falling the sky is falling" it's nice to be amongst the league leaders in something.

Every prospect has their time to make a decision. Some people are more ready to make that decision than others. It took Tyler Motte over a week to decide to leave school. BC was just ousted from a national tournament. Give him time to adjust and think about things.

Most of these guys go to school year round, so even if he lightens his load a bit during the season he should only need a couple credits. I'm sure he can finish up in the summer or do distance studies. Vancouver should be trying very hard to lock him up now, he'll be pursued by everyone if he hits UFA.

So if he doesn't sign....do we know if he is a Kings or Ducks fan?

Finally a team from a non-traditional market gets to talk about a player wanting to "come home".
