Doesn't factor the quality of shot. A dump in isn't the same breakaway save.

If the player fans on his shot then a breakaway save and a dump in save are the same.

If a player on a breakaway fans on his shot, but the dump in shot takes a funny bounce, the dump in shot was harder than the breakaway.

While strictly looking at save percentage doesn't determine if a goalie is good, or bad, it's a big piece of the picture.

Cossa plays on the best team in the WHL so he has a lot of help. Look at the Everett Silvertips - they always have unreal goalie stats because of the system they play and that benefits their goalies. Their goalies this year have a .931 and .933 save percentages...years before their goalie had a .947. year prior...936.....940...933. Teams matter.

- It helps having a solid and disciplined team in front of you, and no doubt Cossa has that. But if you take a look at the stats from his backups from the last two years, they have sub-average stats. Gaa and sv% is as good a stat as any, imo. Sometimes it can decive, just as any other stat.

That beeing said; a good junior goalie is one thing, but to make it and shine at the professional level is a whole different story.

105 career games now in total in the WHL

77-16-4-3 record, with 17 shot outs
161 team points, 1.54 team points per game

2473 saves out of 2680
.925 sv %

206 goals against
1.96 gaa

He is going to have tough times (maybe), in Detroit
but Detroit drafted a one helluva goalie.

Well at least it seems that way, hopefully his mental
capacity is much better what Carter Hart's been
so far in his NHL career, also that his body would not
break as easy too.

He wont see Detroit for at least another two years and by that time their roster will be significantly reformed lol.

Odds are he’s in Grand Rapids next year, and who knows by the deadline and how he plays if he gets a little peek if there’s an injury and latches on.

But two years seems very reasonable if he’s as good as we hope he is

Correct me if I'm wrong, but because of the CHL transfer agreement, the fact that he will be under 20 years old when the season starts and the fact that he's only played 3 "full" seasons of major junior makes him ineligible to play in the AHL next year - it's either Detroit, or back to the WHL

This is what I allude to when people always ask why Canada doesn't seem to produce high-end goalies with great regularity anymore - they're stuck playing teenagers for years in the CHL while European/Russian goalies generally play higher competition in men's leagues before making the jump to the pros. Cossa would gain nothing out of playing another year against teens - but because of the TA, it seems like he will have to unless he somehow makes the Red Wings lineup and splits time with Ned - which probably wouldn't be great for his development either

Cossa is an 02, so he would be classified as an overager in the league and could then play in the AHL next season if Detroit feels fit (they should).
Cossa has no business playing junior next season, especially on a wildly regressed Edmonton team.

Yeah, it's based on his birth date. Since he turns 20 before a certain date (I think it's December something), he is eligible to play in the AHL.

I had hoped the Sens were going to take a goalie, Cossa or the Swede this draft. But they just had to draft a goon ranked 28th with the 10th overall pick.
From a team that usually drafts well, that was mind-numbing.

Especially when you already have Brady.

Ah, ok! Thanks for the clarification. Glad to hear that he won't be relegated to another season of major junior and can begin developing at the pro level

All I know is thats one hell of a goalie name that's usually the deciding factor of legendary goalies.

Really strong play-offs, 27/27 in game 6 and Oilers force game 7. So the WHL championship is decided in game 7.

But.... i guess WHL.ca has invented a time machine LOL... 16 wins already???
