Couldn’t get enough making a fool of yourself in the other thread, eh?

Imagine thinking a guy who was third in most statistics in the WHL, led his team to the championship, shouldn’t be in the AHL next year 😂
Honestly, I don't think it would be the worst thing to leave him there. Cossa still has some technical aspects of his game that I wouldn't mind him getting extra time to work on before he moves on to better shooters. I want him to maintain as much confidence as possible through the development process.

He is big and moves laterally well but other than that, he needs a lot of improvement with his game before he reaches the NHL. Cossa lost almost a full WHL season due to Covid. I think it‘d be best for him and his game to return to juniors - it’s not like it’s a bad thing, if he were born one month later he’d be eligible for WHL hockey anyway. I think that tossing him in the AHL would essentially be throwing him off The deep end and he’d drown.

I hope you have a good day, seems like you need it!
He’s been statistically one of the top three goalies in the WHLfor the past three seasons. By this logic every goalie should stay for their overage season

Seems like if there are warts in his game he should go to the AHL and have professionals exploit them. Best way to learn, maybe he's talented enough his flaws don't burn him in the WHL.

Cossa has no more to prove in the WHL, Heck he'd be better off going to the SHL for a season and facing men like Jesper Wallstedt is doing.

SHL-team doesn't take goalies from CHL, not even the second tier league Allsvenskan. I can't see that any team in the two pro leagues in Sweden would be interested in Cossa. They want to see results from senior level, at least the ECHL or maybe NCAA. Unfortunately, he hasn't shown anything interesting yet that would attract a Swedish team to take a chance on him. That would never happen. And, there's a lot of really good Swedish goalie still on the market, and all teams are now done with their goalie tandem for upcoming season in SHL...
Maybe some team in Liga in Finland could be interested in him, maybe. But even there they prefer goalies with some senior experience, like Czech Nick Malik for example.

Not just have pros shooting on him but have NHL level goalie coaching. I could see going to the WHL again since he did miss so much time, but he doesnt have anything to prove there. Time to get him seasoning in the AHL

If Cossa went to the ECHL it wouldn't be the end of the world either. He doesn't have to stay in the WHL or the AHL. There's a 3rd option. Lots of NHL goalies started their first year pro as the ECHL starter. For example...

Binnington played 40 ECHL games
Logan Thompson (who's probably the Vegas starter now) played 32 ECHL Games
Grubauer played 43 ECHL games.

ect.

you're right. Wallstedt only got time in the SHL because of injuries last year, and he had the advantage of being a homeboy.

BTW, being a goalie in the ECHL isn't easy. A goalies stats are often worse there than they are in the AHL, due to the more scrambly and disorganized play.

I don't think it would be a problem if he played one more year of junior- it depends more on his maturity level and willingness to move away. I think that Cossa was always more of a long term play than Wallstedt, and will take more time to develop. Yzerman is betting that his size and athletic talent will differentiate him from other goalies once his technique catches up.

Yup. The ECHL would be a good spot for Cossa for a few years until his technical game catches up to his length. He’s got a long ways to go to tighten up his game.

Have a little more faith in the guy. Pending injury, he’ll be competing with Brattstrom for the backup goalie position in GR. Jussi Olkinuora will certainly be the starter.

The Red Wings are not going to rush him. Even if he plays ECHL games this year, he won’t stay down there. I would expect 30 games in the AHL as a rookie and could potentially be the starter next year.

It might only be short term since the ECHL schedule starts before the AHL. Just to get Cossa some extra reps.

Cossa also won his professional debut with the Toledo Walleyes where he was also named first star of the game.

Last Friday, Cossa was stopping 27-of-29 shots as he led the Toledo Walleye to a 6-2 victory over Kalamazoo in an ECHL game. He was recalled to Grand Rapids the next day.

Being given first star in his professional debuts at only 19 y.o. for 2 different level pro leagues(ECHL and AHL) is a promising start to Cossa's pro career.

Cossa was returned to Toledo so he can get more playing time as he shuttles between the AHL and ECHL.

At Toledo he will continue to receive instruction and guidance from the Redwing's goalie coach as Toledo is less than an hour away from Detroit and can easilly be called up if there is an injury to any of Detroit's top goalies.

This will also probably save him from some of the long road trips that Grand Rapids has to travel in their league schedule while still being able to experience the occasional AHL level games on Griffins home games during the regular season.

What are Red Wings fans thinking about the Cossa situation? .885 save percentage in 4 ECHL games. It's tough being a goalie in the pros when you have yet to turn 20 (he turns 20 later this month). The constant yo-yo'ing between GR and Toledo doesn't seem like it's ideal.

As a Cossa keeper league owner, I think I would prefer that he goes back to the WHL as a 20 year old to play a ton of games. He didn't even crack the 100 regular season games played mark during his time in the WHL. It's not to late to send him back. The Oil Kings are predictably terrible after going all-in last season, so he would quickly be traded to a contending team.

He has no business being back in the WHL. Part of last year he wasn't even challenged because he was on such a strong team and only reason he didn't play 100 was rona. Hopefully they keep him in one league but echl isn't the worst thing for goalies other than facing a lot of high danger chances so tough to put up good numbers. Just give him a net and keep him there

Yeah, theyre just bringing him between the 2 leagues to control how often he starts. Give me Cossa in pro hockey, close to Detroit where hes talking to their staff all the time over the WHL any day of the week.

Save % numbers in the ECHL are completely irrelevant. The other goalie on Toledo is sub .900 too.
