G Sebastian Cossa (2021, 15th, DET)

I don't have an opinion on the matter. It's just a fact that SHL is a much much better league than any of the CHL leagues.

The worst SHL team would beat every CHL team with double digits.
You do realize that the SHL being a pro league does not mean a player developing there will be a better pro right? What a silly assertion. No shit a pro team will beat a CHL team. That has absolutely nothing to do with who is better between Cossa and Walstedt.

Your logic is deeply flawed. Is Edvinsson is better than Power because SHL is a professional league?

Well, golly gosh, it's a wonder how any CHL goaltenders even survive the pros without literally dying, let alone play in the league.
They don't. Carey Price is the exception.

No. Power could've played in the NHL this season without embarrassing himself.
And you are?

All he’s saying is what Cossa has been doing so far is pretty unheard of.
That's not all he said. He said that Cossa is a more talented goalie based on numbers from a junior league.

Please show me he was more talented “based on stats from a junior league”. I’ll wait.

The Dallas GM Jim Nill certainly thought so. During the preseason, he was quoted as saying that they had Edvinsson ahead of Power in their draft rankings.

Of course we won't know if that would be the case when they both reached the NHL but Edvinsson has certainly impressed in the SHL getting top line minutes with Frolunda and earning 6 points in 11 games for a team that has a hard time getting goals.

Personally I put more weight on players excelling in a top tier pro league with a strong hockey tradition like the SHL than if they were in the juniors or colleges but that doesn't mean there are the occasional players in the latter levels than can translate their game to the NHL just as easily.

You could say the same with Edvinsson who is already dominating a league of pros filled with full grown men and not just your college peers like Powers has been doing and being compared to Tampa Bay all star defenceman like Hedman while doing it.

Not great footage tbh but I'm sharing it anyways in an overt effort to build Cossa hype.

Leading or tied for the lead in all WHL goaltender stats (and all CHL goaltender stats more broadly, if that interests you, except for Brett Bochu who has 8 wins to Cossa's 7).

Nuts-o season so far...

Facing 30 shots a night, yet saving 95% of the pucks....
stupid good.....

BTW. 11 games starting to be something, also 300+ shots faced...
Not anymore small sample size

Save percentage is probably the most useless goaltending stat in history. One goalie could see 5 breakaways a game, 10 odd man rushes and a ton of power plays and save 20/25 for a .800 save percentage while one goalie saves 25 clear soft shots from the point and has a 1.00 Save percentage.

He had 1 game recently where he had 45ish shots against. All the other games are much lower. So one game skewed the numbers.
Do you consider 24 shots much lower, because all but one game He has faced 24 or more shots, with the majority of games being within 2 or 3 shots.

This is a weird argument, as I am a Wings fan and he is having a great year. Definitely didn't come here to start a debate. But in statistical terms, 24 is much less than 30+ shots a night.

Not sure how you took away that I was starting a debate. I wouldn't consider 24 much lower than 30. Most games he is closer to 30 than you make it seem.
