:D

Who saw this coming and was told over and over again the league won't allow it because the rules only apply to non-Leafs teams.

Leafs have to be treated differently than every other team, suspensions, officiating and LTIRing.

Expect a 5 part thread about in on the mains.

Full stop, I don't believe he is actually "injured". If the Leafs did not have a cap crunch, he'd be in training camp ready to go. I just think it's easy to find something on Murray that can conveniently deem him unfit to play. A doctor can find him unfit to play, and also clear him if it was convenient. He was cleared to play in May, Keefe said he was "healthy", and we did not hear he got injured training or while sitting on his couch eating pancakes.

Know what’s better than getting out of a bad situation?
Don’t put yourself in a bad situation in the first place…….
We got a 3rd, a 7th, top-10 goaltending last year, and no cap concerns moving forward. Oh no, what a bad situation. How ever will we survive.:eyeroll:
The funniest part is that most goalie acquisitions that we could have done instead last year would have put us in a worse situation right now.

I do feel bad for Murray that this is likely how his career ends. Got two Cups though as the main guy so he comes out a lot better than most players.

I’ll also defend his play. When he was healthy for us he and Samsonov were a great duo. Lest we forget that stretch from November through December both men were playing extremely well and we and the team were comfortable with whoever was starting for us. Unfortunately Murray’s body is literally at its limit and he’s incapable of performing at a high level, much less suit up.

LOL

Cap-problem-itis is a long term issue.

Leafs are not out of the woods yet now that Murray appears to have blocked his buyout successfully,

LTIR is only for 10 games or 26 games min limit as per CBA. So Leafs tossing him on LTIR to start year doesn't mean he can remain on there.. Don't be surprised if magically Murray claims himself healthy after his 10 games/26 games has passed and has an independent medical report supports he has been cleared. Claiming you have a headache from concussion related symtoms to block a 48 hour buyout window this week to prevent a buyout is one thing, but then headache could be gone next week as Murray claims he is feeling great by training camp,

Then what do the Leafs do when they have to account for the balance of his salary/cap hit during the season when he comes off LTIR and they spend to the cap ceiling with no cap space to absorb it?.

Remember for season long LTIR to work both sides have to be in full agreement, and neither side trying to push the health issue or the return. The fact that Murray took Leafs off of all his Social media accounts sounds like a bitter divorce not a happy settlement and agreement.
I say both parties came to an agreement that Murray will heal on LTIR this season.

Murray had 8 million reasons to stay on LTIR
and only 5.5 million reasons to declare he was fit to play and get bought out.
Those were his choices and this is for the whole season, not partial.

No way Treeliving would allow that to hang over the team.

He was good in the 1st cup win I'll give him that. But Fleury had no business being pulled on the 2nd run. They only did it because they had already decided he'd be headed to Vegas

caos destroyed the pens in that series. pens had no business winning that series if it wasn't for Flower going super saiyan

I had a feeling this would happen. That extraneous summer workout regiment and that new Ball Canada ambassador gig was too much I say.

"Pretty much all terrible signings"?

What are you smoking?

-Niederrieiter is the type of player the Leafs need. He hits and scores. 24 goals and 165 hits. He also netted the Preds a 2nd round pick.
-Strome had 65 points last year
-Domi had 56 points
-Vatrano had 41 with 86 hits
-Athanasiou had 40 points
-Paul had 32 points with 111 hits
-Marchment had 31 points in 68 games with 88 hits

You also forgot David Perron who got $4.7M, pretty much Murray's cap hit and he put up 56 points.

If you think these signings are "terrible" then having Kerfoot's 32 points must be one of the worst contracts in the league last year.

-Schultz played 18 minutes a night, Rielly is the only D to have more points than him (34) with a higher point share than all Leafs D except for Rielly and Lilljgren
-Zadorov played 19 minutes a night, had more hits than any leaf, had a higher point share than Brodie and had more points than Sandin, Liljegren, Holl, and Brodie.
-Leddy played 21 minutes a night, had a higher point share than any leaf defender not named Giordano and as a defensive defensemen had more points than Sandin, Liljegren, Holl, and Brodie.
-Cole played 19 minutes a night for Tampa and had more points than Holl and Brodie and a higher point share than Sandin and Brodie

All these guys were arguably better than Holl, Giordano or maybe even Brodie.

Fleury cost $1.3M less than Murray, actually played and had better numbers;
Fleury: .908 S%, 2.85 GAA, 8.2 PS in 46 games
Murray: 903 S%, 3.01 GAA, 4.2 PS in 24 games

So yes literally all these contracts except for Manson and Gudbransson would have been money better spent than close to $5M on Murray.

And nothing says because you dont acquire Murray, that you have to only sign a $4.5M+ player to replace him. You could get 2 players for that cost or make a trade to get a better player.

Some of these signings were so "terrible", you wanted them last season;

Don’t put yourself in a bad situation in the first place…….

…….but carry on your worshipping at the Altar of Dubas….

How much is the bad situation worth? 3rd + 7th? Do you take him on for a few 1sts?

There is always a price.

It's funny seeing people get upset for one of Dubas' worst moves being turned into a good one.

Turns out the risk was very small for Murray.

If it's true that his agent tried to play games with the buyout we should probably look at trading his contract to a cap floor team in case they want to try to play some games in the press with the injury designation.

I think they took advantage of his agent trying to leverage against the buyout by saying he's too injured. Now they need to keep him on it

Suffice it to say, Murray's history with concussions has taken a serious toll. He will not be ready to play any time soon, we've learned.

Treliving declined to comment on Murray's health when reached by Sportsnet Wednesday afternoon, noting that it's a private matter for the player.

The cheques will keep rolling in, but a proud athlete is paying a mental levy here.

-------------------

Murray's list of documented ailments and injuries features 15 separate entries between late 2017 and April 2, possibly his final appearance in a Leafs uniform.

Plenty mention the head.

It's no stretch to imagine a medical team advising the goaltender to avoid contact sport.

Where this LTIR slide leaves Murray's career is an answer for another day.
