He did win 2 cups….. ROR gets a pass because he won 1 cup
He was good in the 1st cup win I'll give him that. But Fleury had no business being pulled on the 2nd run. They only did it because they had already decided he'd be headed to Vegas

I think it depends. If the contract is insured the insurance company foots either 100% or some chunk of the contract while the rest goes out of team's pocket.

Long story short: Unlike LT disability insurance in Canada where you will not get full 100% pay of your job in case of unfortunate accident/illness/etc.

Murray will get full pay whether it comes from insurance, MLSE or combination of the two.
I mean, the Leafs aren't required to file an insurance claim right? Don't need those people poking around, just foot the bill.

I think there is a league protocol where a League doctor reviews cases such as these I assume; so there would be a doctor's note anyway.

but I do agree, ideally Leafs foot the bill and move on instead of inviting trouble from insurance firms. Also depends on how the relationship is between Leafs and insurance firm they use I suppose. If Leafs are giving them a lot of business inuring ridiculous contracts; insurance firm might bite the bullet on one contract lol.

Anyway, I have no knowledge though if Murray's contract is insured or not. If MLSE paid 25 million dollars to Babcock to just sit at home; am sure they will foot the 8 million dollar bill; just expect the beer and food at the arena to be a dollar more LOL

I am curious when players go on LTIR is it like when I am on LT disability and the insurance company checks up every month or so? How does LTIR work in the NHL?

I'm not sure if there's an official statement out there, but I've seen a claim in the media that insurance companies can pay up to around 80% of the players remaining salary once they've missed 30 games or so.

The one downside of putting Murray on LTIR, is that we won’t have any room if/when someone gets hurt during the season. That could be a problem, no?

They won't accrue room, but they will still have any room they have at the beginning of the season. They were going to be operating in LTIR with Muzzin anyway, so not much difference.

Murray is now on LTIR which he didn't have much to do.

1L as Sammy wasn't locked up long term. UFA signings are TBD. Still hasn't hasn't signed Matthews and Nylander.

So no he's not eating Ws.
Zero chance you would sign Sammy long term at that cap hit. 5ys or more would cost north of 5mm

Fleury was playing well but Murray was insane once he took the net in that run...

5 years at 4m same as Korpisalo deal. I'd be okay with that.
I might be as well. I don't envision the Leafs offering five years (based on the goalie's track record) or Samsonov signing for 4M (based on his arbitration request) though.

He'll get claimed in a heartbeat.
My thoughts as well (and I like the blueline depth he provides).

don't let facts get in the way of a "narrative"

am just so glad dubas is outta here. it was getting suffocating as a "LEAFS" fan around these parts

Murray made $7 mil last year in real money and is owed $8 mil this year on that butt ugly contract.

He played in 26 games last year recording 14 wins and now going on LTIR ..

So for $15 mil dollars at 14 wins = > $1 mil per win cost to ownership.

Since Murray can't play and you still owe him the full $8 mil and you have to pay another goalie to play in his place Woll & that means the team is doubling down on cost for their backup goalie position of both Murray and Woll and essentially paying $9 mil combined for the position in real cost.

If a small market owner saw their GM spending $9 mil of their money on a backup goalie position they wouldn't think its genius, they would walk their GM to the front door and toss him out saying you're fired.

Fortunately for Leaf Nation fans that snake oil salesman Dubas got himself fired and we don't have to deal wtih this nonsense, and he can no longer Troll this fanbase any longer. :)

I'm showing $1,293,950 over with 21 players. Gambrell won't be on the roster.
That's with Robertson on the short term ir instead of ltir. Move Robertson to the Marlies and its only about 460,000 over the cap. I used McMann as the 12th forward. With Robertson or Holmerg as the 12th forward instead, add 34,000 or 37,500 to the overage.

Still looks like something needs to happen but 460,000 shouldn't be too much of a hurdle.

Yes, the league can investigate if they choose to via a mutually agreed upon between league and PA neutral doctor to review the club doctors findings. But nothing to stress, this isn't happening without plausible cause. He'll be special assistant to goalie coach in charge of community relations by next year lol..
