Murray is now on LTIR which he didn't have much to do.

1L as Sammy wasn't locked up long term. UFA signings are TBD. Still hasn't hasn't signed Matthews and Nylander.

So no he's not eating Ws.

Not sure if you’ve been following Samsonov before he was with the leafs but consistency was a massive concern. This is why the Capitals didn’t qualify him - not exactly the type of player you want on term.

Not locking up Samsonov and his .899 SV% when it counts is a W in itself.

Not cpuntinuing to overpay two of the entitled 4 is another W.
He had a good playoffs last year amd I believe he was injured this playoffs.

I'm not sure. I think Woll is going to be our guy. Locking up a guy, who could end up being our #2, could be a problem to move in the future. Only time will tell though.
We should have both going forward.

This. Woll should be the starter right from game 1 of the season. I would've much rather traded Samsonov and gone with an older vet to mentor and play 1B behind Woll.

Samsonov is a headcase, that's why Washington walked away from him. And his playoff performance leaves a lot to be desired

Betting Washington regrets not qualifying him now. He broke out last year. Lots of goalies breakout at 25.

I hope he can continue that projection. One of his biggest flaw is consistency over his tenure
Hoping he can stay the course

Huh, kinda what a bunch of us have been saying would be happening from the beginning.
Can’t tell that to the sky is falling crowd though
Colour me surprised. Thrilled to see it. I wonder if they were moving to buy him out and he initiated injury status? Kind of hope so, cleaner look if the league is looking at it.

Although I am sure it is all very plausible medically for whatever it is the claim is. Plausible is good enough.

I picture Murray in flip flops with his wife, beer in hand while he collects cash.

He wins any way you slice or dice it.

Pridham working his magic again

Murray in the gym off season training, Pridham spotting. Oops-a-daisy. Got ‘er done.

We should have both going forward.

We've got a lot of goalie prospects right now, and should have a steady flow of reasonably cheap backups. If I'm right, and Woll ends up taking over... he's going to need a $3-5 mil contract as well... Samsonov will want $4 mil + after this season... I don't see the value in spending $8-9 mil in goalies, when you have a deep prospect system with thm.

FYI ..

That 3rd is long gone as it was dealt along with a 1st, 2nd and 4th to rent Ryan O'Reilly for 11 playoff games.

Leafs only have the 7th round pick in 2024 left to show for that.

don't let facts get in the way of a "narrative"

am just so glad dubas is outta here. it was getting suffocating as a "LEAFS" fan around these parts

I'm not surprised, honestly.

No one bats an eye that Price has a bum knee and is out forever. Murray has more or less lived on LTIR the last 2 years and clearly his body is saying it's done playing hockey at an elite level or just done entirely.

Are goal posts being moved?

Who cares what he did after, this is about the positive assets, it was a genius move.

You seriously think Sammy playing hurt was just a rumor? Did you not remember this board being in a panic'd frenzy over it for how many games? Did you not remember Sammy looking VISIBLY hurt on the ice on several occasions during that stretch?

And Murray being hurt BEFORE the trade deadline than after is more luck than anything. Horrible reasoning really.

I refuse to be gaslit about this.
Gaslit? wow ….really?

Sammy was hurt for game three against Panthers. He rested last two games of season and proclaimed he was ready to go.

Not sure where the panic you proclaim was from? unless it’s was game 3 against the panthers. And Woll stepped in and played great and won game 4 for us

I am curious when players go on LTIR is it like when I am on LT disability and the insurance company checks up every month or so? How does LTIR work in the NHL?

I think it depends. If the contract is insured the insurance company foots either 100% or some chunk of the contract while the rest goes out of team's pocket.

Long story short: Unlike LT disability insurance in Canada where you will not get full 100% pay of your job in case of unfortunate accident/illness/etc.

Murray will get full pay whether it comes from insurance, MLSE or combination of the two.

I'd rather keep the established guys and then trade them once prospects prove they are NHLers, not all prospects pan out.

Woll and Samsonov are a good tandem to have right now. If Samsonov is signed to a long term reasonable deal, he should be easy to trade if needed.

What the f*** kinda cringe shit is this? Murray is a pro athlete that's been massively overpaid most of his career and failed to live up to it. He can go cry into the $8m or whatever he's getting paid this year
He did win 2 cups….. ROR gets a pass because he won 1 cup
