Heating up as of late.

On the Iowa broadcast they were talking about how Wallstedt wasn't completely healthy at the beginning of the year, and how he's fine now. Also think he has simply taken time to adjust to the AHL, AND, the 3 rookie dmen in front of him have also acclimatized, and gotten much better. Early on, the GA's were either bad angle shots, or the result of a turnover off of a handover by Wallstedt to a Wild player. Both problems seem to be fixed.

Otherwise he looks solid. Not flashy, just there. Not obviously quick, but his anticipation seems really good, and is very controlled on his pushes. Doesn't panic and overpush, like many young goalies.

Seems stronger and more decisive on covering up the puck. Partly growing stronger, partly it's realizing that the AHL can be a nasty league around the crease, and that you have to take charge, or the puck will be in the net behind you.

After starting off shaky with a .890 save percentage through the first month, he’s been one of the best goalies in the AHL and even made the Allstar game. Up to a .913 on the season. Best goalie prospect in the world in my book.

Can we take a moment and appreciate just how good Wally is? He's 15th in GAA and 12th in SV%. He had a very rocky start in October and didn't even turn 20 until mid-November. He apparently had a minor injury he was working through as well at the beginning of October.

Three other rookie goalies are ahead of him and two are 4 years older than him and another had a half season in the AHL last season.

Wallstedt is a very special goaltender and he is doing better and better.

I love how much fun he has. Does the wave with the fans, dances in the crease. I used to give the crowd a little bow after a big save back in the day, not because I was good at hockey, but because I was 12 and enjoying it. Never let that get beat out of you, Wallstedt!
