How about the former GM not screw around his now star goalie at either of those levels that year and instead he plays in the NHL all year because he was the best goalie the team had that year and showed it in preseason, minors, and NHL? He should've been in the NHL that whole year. It was poor management by Gorton. He bought Lundqvist out at the end of the season, and Georgiyev's career has been on the decline the last few years, as anyone who has watched him play knew it would.
It seems like you're arguing with a guy who's on your side. He thinks Shesty could have skipped the AHL altogether.

Because some people still think he's the best goalie in the league so he gets all the tough starts.

Friendly reminder that the Oilers basically gifted him to Minnesota. They're probably gonna regret that. He was fort Knox tonight.

Minnesota are so lucky. No idea how he slid that far in the draft, and for the Oilers to trade away the pick when a potential franchise player falls into their lap AGAIN killed me.

A number of teams are going to kick themselves for passing on him. Like I don't know how you pick guys like Rosén, Lucius and Bolduc over him.

It's also kinda funny to think that Nashville could've had Jarvis/Lundell and Wallstedt but instead ended up with Askarov and Svechkov.

Rosen, Lucius, Bolduc, etc., could all still be putstanding players. I don’t think it’s fair, especially this early, to get on a team’s scouting staff for passing on a player. I will say, I’m very excited the Wild have Wallstedt, but none of their NHL careers have even started. Why don’t we acknowledge the good things each prospect has done withlut degrading other prospects in the process?

I still think Wings will regret drafting Cossa instead of Wallstedt. Cossa is having a really rough year and Wallstedt is killing it.

I get the feeling Wallstedt took his fall in the draft to heart. No one had a really good excuse for passing on him, and every stated reason for drafting Cossa was "lol he's big". I even heard one scout saying they were worried that Wallstedt was "too polished" and wouldn't develop any further.

NHL scouts are size queens.

Yeah that pick isn't trending very well atm. Supposedly Yzerman asked Osgood to scout them both and decide which of the two he preferred, ultimately recommending they take Cossa. Probably won't do that again.

Hakan Andersson has also said he doesn't understand goalies, so I am betting the Wings had a lot more detailed scouting on Cossa.

I think Wallstedt is gonna be the next Lundqvist.

The wings just laid an egg in the draft. Wallstedt played in the SHL at 17! in argubly the 3rd best league in the world and Cossa has played against junior players. Just an epic fail that could had been seen a mile away....

One bad game and you call it an "epic fail". Biased much?

1 game?

Wallstedt has played 17 games vs MEN in the 3rd best league in the world with a sv .923% and 2 games in the tournament with a sv .962 %

Cossa has played 21 games in a junior league with a sv .924 % and not even in net for Canada in the tournament. Not even counting that "game"

I still remember how sure everyone was that Markström was the next Lundqvist. Took him 10 years to even become a legit NHL starter.

I also vividly remember back in the day, like 3 months ago, when everyone thought Spencer Knight was ready to be an NHL starter.

Jumping to conclusions on 19 year old goalies is a bad idea. Wallstedt is trending well, that’s about all that can be said.

Most Swedish goalie Are bad. King Henrik bacame something of course teams not going to take a Swedish keeper when the last good one was Henrik. So They slip taking a swe keeper in first rounder is a gamble. Markström only recent become something and thats not with his draft team . Walls seem good so hoppfully . Sweden dont have alot elit keepers

He looks so damn big and calm between the pipes. Very efficient.
Yeah. Rarely needs to make the big saves because he moves so quickly into position which imo is why a lot of scouts underrated him in the draft. It's not that he can't make big, athletic saves, it's just that he almost never have to.

Agreed. As a Wild fan, I was watching him, and not the play(though the Slovaks are shockingly good, and capable of beating ANYONE). He just looks kind of...boring. Not a lot of flopping around. No flailing, or tantrums, even when he is facing hardship(three flukey GA vs. the Russians).

I am still mystified as to why EDM didn't take him, or Zegras previously.

Can't wait til Cossa has a solid stretch and Wallstedt struggles a bit and the opinions in this thread suddenly flip to reflect it.

This place is hilarious.
