Not sure what a player would expect going to an arb hearing … if you go this route you have to put your big boy pants on and accept criticism

You’d think so. But ODog seems like a thin skinned guy. And so does Samsonov actually…

Maybe Leafs look to trade him as well. I get the feeling Treliving is not 100% sold on him.
I like him as a stopgap measure until Woll (or whomever is next in line) is ready or available (the latter for options that are currently external to the organization). We'll have to see what transpires moving forward.

Feels fair, how that fits in to our cap is another question. I guess you buy out Murray and figure the rest out at the cottage in August.

It's either buying out Murray or he goes on LTIR, which has been suggested might happen.

Love the theory, doubtful to me that it is practical, but I'll paddle the boat to Robidas Isle myself if the NHL lets them. If there is some world in which everyone involved is on board with that, it's a great result for the Leafs.

Once again, they gotta get him in the weight room with Pridham spotting. Opps-a-daisy..

so far, i like treliving’s approach to all these contract negotiations. calm, measured, controlled. Dubas would’ve already gave nylander 11m, and overpaid sammy to avoid arb. and god knows what with matthews….

I don't think it would be that implausible that someone with Murray's extensive medical issues not passing a physical. But I agree I would also be surprised if it's something that happens. Either way, I think Murray's contract will be removed whether it's through a buyout or LTIR shenanigans.

He was cleared to play and was Woll’s backup for the last 2 playoff games in May. What happened between now and then that suggests he should go on LTIR? I don't think that is an option at this time. He could always hurt himself in training camp, though.
1-Being clear for playoff = sometime still injured in regular season...

2-Murray himself would have to ask himself somewhere how much he want to continu that way and risking to break his body for the rest of his life

I mean it's not impossible, I think it's wishing on a star a bit on our part, but ya, being healthy enough to be a backup in the playoffs when your team is already starting a guy that played most of the year in the A because your #1 is out injured is not necessarily the same thing as being off-season healthy, right?

I personally think it’s extremely cool and good that no matter how Samsonov plays next season we’re destined to lose him it seems. Plays good? Can’t afford him. Plays bad? Why bring him back? Amazing. Great negotiating Pizza boy. How is it other franchises can lock up their goalies on short term deals for 2-3 years but here we’re incapable of settling on a fair number to to have just a smidgen of stability in the crease?

Kyle Dubas’ sales pitch to every damn free agent over the years has been “come here and bet on yourself.” It’s a team built on a short term mercenary mentality.
Prove yourself and move on to better/ bigger things

1 year deal is the best option IMO. I'm not sold on Sammy being a long or even medium term option at this point. He seems like a genuinely good guy so hopefully he can play to a level that warrants a serious commitment afterward.

Samsonov is a UFA next year, so, only 1 year is available in arbitration not 2 ...Leafs do not have that available.

you are correct Woll is hard to do something with because he cannot be sent down without waivers.
...i was mostly including him because I heard Tre really wants Vladar, but he isnt cheap either.
Woll is most likely leafs future starter so don't see him being moved

Yeah but by all accounts wasn't Murray skating/practicing during the playoffs and close to being ready? I doubt he just agrees to take a full year off if he's fine (it's a big if, I know).
If he sneezes to hard he well be hurt again lol

Is a scenario emerging where we walk away from Sammy and roll into the season with Murray and Woll, giving Woll a layup of an opportunity to earn a starring role? Just having fun….

One example is what Stephen said below

And Shea Weber played in Game 5 of the finals vs Tampa Bay and limped off into LTIR retirement thereafter.

Options for Murray is either he goes to LTIR and get is full 8 million salary (biggest pay year of his entire contract of 6.25 AAV) this year or Leafs buy him out and he loses 2.7 million in real money; while only getting 2.7 million this year and 2.7 million next year.

His contract structure (first pic) and then his buyout (2nd pic)

I really don't think there is a market out there that will pay Murray 2.7 million to play this season given his injury and goal tending history in recent years. Safe play for Murray is to go on LTIR.

Why is Murray going on LTIR ?

He was close to playing 10 weeks ago? What happened to him

He gets hurt if someone looks at him the wrong way. I know the thought of the Leafs getting away from Murray without giving something up is disappointing for non-Leafs fans but this wouldn’t be the first time a player who played up until the last possible moment of the previous season was LTIRetired. And hell Murray didn’t even play, he warmed the bench.

This mess wasn't created by "Pizza Boy", it was Kyle Douchebag's.

would be hilarious if we don't make playoffs for shady tending and players are asked to play defense first sacrificing offense; I wonder what "contract" offer would both nylander and matthews would make then

It really is disappointing we couldn’t sign Samsonov for even just two years at least. It would’ve carried him through the dreaded 2024-25 season where the Leafs will very likely have four players costing $10 million against the cap. If we’d manage to keep him until Tavares’ bloated contract expired we could’ve used the savings from that to give him the payday he so clearly wants.

Kyle Dubas is no longer with the organization and isn’t negotiating with Samsonov and his agent. Even if Murray wasn’t here or we get rid of him we’d still have an issue, as paying Samsonov much more than a number in the low 3 millions puts us over the cap.

No, he''s not but the organization is going to feel the after effects of his piss poor management for many years. This situation with Sammy is an example of that.
