Wouldn’t be shocked to see a tweet in the next hour or two that they’ve signed something still, but I guess you have to assume it’s in arbitration until we hear otherwiseSeems to be.

Bingo....he should have booted years ago....Sometimes (very often) you wonder if this core is just not the right mix. Great players, but they can’t get it done when the chips are down. To have only gotten out of the first round once in 7 years, maybe it’s time to rearrange the deck chairs. Unfortunately, Shanahan, I believe, has been the one all along who has wanted to keep this core together.

I’m guessing it’ll land around 3.5 or 3.7ish area
Free to trade him after a decision, it’s a normal contract once awarded, no particular qualifications attached.cant remember the rules ...if we accept the arb amount (under walk away), then we cant trade him for a year ...even though he can only get a 1 year deal?
...and as soon as the case started he cant be signed, which was supposed to have been 9am i think?
its strange that yesterday i saw a bunch of tweets indicating the arbitration case had started (Kurashev a minor player in comparison), but, not a peep for Samsonov's case
What time is there hearing
No.Does the fact he took $1.8 last year come into play at all?
When did they change it so you can't sign between the hearing and decision?Yes, once the hearing starts they can no longer settle, used to be different, could settle after hearing but before decision, but if the hearing has started then a decision is coming and binding, barring the $4.53 million and above club walk away from award level.
I mean the entire process is to lowball until they meet in the middle eventually, so realistically I'd assume that's where it should go at.Sammy put some really strong #'s last season, so I can see why he wanted to take his chances with Arbitration.

I see this potentially coming out North of $4 mil, as those #'s you're reporting would be a big win for BT and the Leafs because those are the #'s rumoured Leafs offered him outside of Arbitration.
Only in terrms of his qualifying offer on books currently as a RFA unsigned.Does the fact he took $1.8 last year come into play at all?
2020 MoUNo.

They were probably highballing and Leafs were probably lowballing knowing they will meet in the middle.Almost everybody is expiring over the next 2 years so the idea that they can't afford to sign anybody beyond 1 year simply isn't true.
Now If you had said Samsonov hadn't earned more than 1 year, that's different I'd agree with that.
But you said they couldn't do and that's just not true
Probably Samsonov seeing as his ask is 4.9
It was reported Leafs were offering Sammy in the range of $3.5 - $3.8 mil outside of Arbitration process which they declined to take their chances in court with a judge ruling instead.I mean the entire process is to lowball until they meet in the middle eventually, so realistically I'd assume that's where it should go at.

Was scheduled for 9am according to the Sun.
In terms of the timeline here today, once the team and the player present their cases and the arbitration process has concluded and an award has been handed out, the team's 2nd buyout window will open. That window opens at 5pm ET on the third day following the conclusion of the arbitration hearing when the award (or settlement) is presented, according to the Toronto Sun's Terry Koshan. That buyout window lasts only 48 hours. The Murray buyout would have to be today or do we have time.

Both sides are gambling here, but Sammy has the least to lose by letting a 3rd party decide because worst case scenario for him he comes in at what Leafs were offering him anyways.
Leafs are taking the bigger risk because the award could come in higher than they were willing to pay. That said Treliving had no other option if Sammy won't take Leafs offered amounts, and roll the dice on an Arbitration reward.

Keep in mind Samsonov was making $2 mil on his Washington deal prior to signing with the Leafs at a discount $1.8 mil to put himself in this position today hoping to have strong #'s to back up his case. The didn’t exactly have much of choice. Leafs tendered him a QO. After that happened it was Samsanov who filed for arbitration, the Leafs essentially just have to ride the wave at this point as they can’t go back and unqualify him.
Either way again sad to see only our players seem to be actually making it to arbitration and only they seem to not be willing to take team friendly deals.
Worst case scenario today would be a 4+ deal that is under the walk away term and he gets UFA status next year.
My guess is that Hart is plan B. If this goes to a number they don’t like and it’s above the walk away, they may actually walk away and pursue him.
