They are better defensively this season, but I think CSKA has a better defense. SKA has talented defensive players, but CSKA plays much better team defense.

Shestyorkin doesn't carry them. Its an all star team. No one player carries anything, but he holds his own as one of the best players at his position in the league, like SKA has at many other positions. He's had a few games where he carried them, like a game against CSKA about a month ago. A few games ago, I think it was against Vityaz, they were making a lot of defensive errors and he kept Vityaz from scoring 4 or 5 goals, shutting them out.

I guess you don't watch SKA regularly then.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL you havent a clue! You were just utterly and disgustingly embarrassed with my previous post. I was trying to be polite but now your just asking for it. Anypone whos best comeback that involves a claim that Im not watching enough of KHL is sorely hurting in the rear. Please address my post with real facts or anecdotal evidence of any type rather than this rubbish. Any team that averages less than 30 shots a game, less than 2 goals a game has an excellent defense. Their golatending is good but by KHL standards the D is excellent, Voynov, Yakolev, Belov - Yeah they're hurting I think they need some improvement maybe they should add Vityaz's top pairing Dman Semenyov who they cut years ago. I am the Canadian KHL specialitsky, you need help friend.

This guy has a delusion of being a Rangers fan who was watching a few recent highlight real and thinks Shesty is Richter reincarnated and a KHL expert, dont waste your type. This KHL team is the best we've ever seen.

Me? I never mentioned Richter. You must be confusing me with someone else.

I've watched probably half of SKA's games in the last 12 months. I think I know what I'm talking about. The defense has talented players, but I feel like CSKA's defenseman play better as a team, while SKA has more individually talented defenders.

It would be incorrect to act like the goalie of SKA never has to have really good games. Even if SKA is the best team in the league, some games they don't play as well. Some games other teams can compete with them, and as a I mentioned with two specific examples, Shestyorkin has had to make some very difficult saves. He doesn't do that every game, his stats are clearly inflated because of the team he plays for, but consider his track record. Last season in the VHL he set league records playing for a non-all star team. He was just exceptionally good and he's been a very good prospect for years.

K.

Nowhere did I insinuate Shesty was "Richter incarnated", nor was I flouting my Rangers fandom. I've been watching SKA games (when I can, of course, b/c time zones) for the better part of two years, more-so this season (I have been able to watch about 3/4 of the games). I'd like to imagine that I have a good grasp on the team. Yes, I occasionally need to watch the highlight reels for games I can't watch.

All I said was that Shesty and Costco haven't been carried by the offense of this team (they sometimes need to carry SKA) and that the SKA defense wasn't the best in the league.

Please stop assuming things and making a delusional fool out of yourself. It's embarrassing.

it's insane yet most of it is a product of the team, that is miles better than 80% of the other teams.

Sure the numbers are inflated a bit but it's not like the defense is anymore than average. He still facing about 25 shots a games and in some games almost 40 (including vs the other top team who he shut out)

Huh? SKA's defense is average?:banghead:

Shestyorkin is facing like 25 shots a game...that's nothing. Only 2 KHL teams average under 26 shots for/game.
In terms of averages it's like a goalie (who plays behind an average KHL defense) having the luxury of regularly playing the offensive bottom dwellers of the league.

Shestyorkin is awesome, but c'mon now.

Considering how bad SKAs defense is, he's not exactly being carried to all these wins via the offense.
... :help:
I hate the " he plays for a great team " argument. The goalie still has to stop the shots and he's doing that.
This counter-argument works much worse in the KHL, where there's less parity, different style of play and more shots of no danger.

36/39 saves against CSKA and had two assists. 6-3 win. I wasn't able to watch the game, but I read it was crazy. He got ran by CSKA two times, and there were a bunch of scuffles. Telegin was the guy who just jumped into him on that play. Apparently he made a lot of really nice saves, even though he gave up three goals.

You need help. Every guy from the KHL section in here is laughing at you, please make it stop. My first post politely gave you a great statistical analysis yet you continue with this. SKA 148 GF, league avg 78 lol. Let me clarify - the offense carries the goaltenders. Today case in point, 3 goals allowed in the 1st period, most KHL goalies (based on statistical GF) that means a loss. For SKA it is a landslide victory 6-3. It cant get any more clear.

Shestyorkin gave up two goals and made 61 of 63 saves in two wins the last few days in the Far East. In both games, he played very well, after SKA's defense had been struggling. It could've been a number of goals given up in both games had he not played very well.

He had been struggling the prior few weeks. Koskinen who many thought would take a lot of playing time away from Shestyorkin hasn't even been dressing for games the last week, despite being healthy. For the season, Shestyorkin has lost 3 games in 29 played.

He was also called up to the Russian National Team for the Channel One Cup. This roster is much more veteran heavy than the last tournament, so making this roster might speak to his standing among Russian goalies. He could have a chance to play at the World Championship's.

Yeah, winning Channel 1 cup is a priority for Znarok, so there is no experimenting. This will be Russia's best non-NHL roster, in Znarok's mind anyway.

When would he come over to NA??
Would he have to play in the AHL??

He has a contract until 2019. He could be signed by the Rangers for the 2019-2020 season. The final season for his contract can also be bought out, so maybe he could play for the Rangers for the 2018-2019 season.

He's likely too good for the AHL, and would probably have an AHL release clause in his contract like a lot of European players get.

I think it would be really cool if he's at the Olympics next year.

I don't know what exactly the chances of that are, but it would be pretty cool.

There's a lot of things to consider.

First is whether the NHL will participate in the Olympics.

Yes:

I figure Bob has the #1 spot. Vasilevskiy will probably be there as well, probably as the #2. Will Varlamov be there? He just had hip surgery, and that could be debilitating for a goalie. He might be back at the start of next season, but will he be playing at a level where Russia picks him? If he is, I figure they'll just go with the 3 in the NHL, but if not, Shestyorkin and Sorokin might have a chance to claim the third spot. It seems like for now Znarok regards him above Sorokin, as he got the first start in this recent tournament, and I think the last tournament he had two starts to Sorokin's one.

No:

If the NHL doesn't participate in the Olympics, the luster comes off the tournament, but he would probably have a good chance to be a starter for the Gold Medal favorite. Probably either him or Sorokin as the starter.
