Semi-disagree. Out of context, that's a good reason and what he should be doing. What makes it so infuriating is that he's been letting Brunette staple the kids to the benches and then giving them all away for fractions of pennies on the dollar - so he's not just letting the coach he has so much confidence in undermine his core approach, he's actively participating in that same undermining.

ROR should be mentoring and shielding kids, but we keep throwing away the kids he's to be mentoring and shielding, so he can't actually do the job that we're keeping him around for.
You left out my part about the other vets who were brought in for the culture. I don't disagree ROR is a valuable piece to mentor the kids. On the flip side, why did we bring in Stamkos and Marchessault? They're serial winners. They're able to mentor too. We have guys like Fil and Sissons who I think would also do a good job on that front. How many mentors does one team need?

I do agree that we threw away the kids ROR was supposed to mentor because the coach is a dumb arse.

I look at the lack of a move of ROR as a short term "win" if you will at the cost of the long term goals which should've been to acquire younger talent for the long haul. Instead, we have a deteriorating asset that we won't get the same value for moving forward. It's once again terrible asset management.

We all should have realized after the Duchene move that this was going to be a rocky ride.

I think we all could tell with Bruno very early on that it was going to go wrong at some point.

I will say this for Trotz: He was always a good coach, and adapted his style of coaching quite a bit as his career progressed. He better have a similar arc as GM because he is being targeted already by GMs and he is too stupid to realize it right now. Giving himself self-congratulatory pats on the back while having a roster that looks dysfunctional.

One more thing, I think these moves should have worked this off-season. I think this is the absolute worst case outcome for what took place. I put that on Bruno and the waiving of so many talented players or trading them for peanuts. We made so many unforced errors as a team.

There are still pieces and picks to recover, but I am not confident we have a competent organization at this point...

Stammer has not really ever had to do much mentoring. The talent pipeline has been deep since he was drafted after a long period of suckage n Tampa after their 04 cup they had high draft picks and made them count. Stammer Hedman being top of the class. They then drafted gems after round one Kuch, Point they created a winning dynasty that is now aging out but enough is left. Over the past 4 seasons they have traded the majority of there picks for nhl ready players to run at the cup without missing a beat like Sergichev Paul Coleman Hagel and now Guntezl replacing Stammer. Add in finding Tyler Johnson and Yanni Gourde both undrafted guys.

There is a aweful lot there that the Preds organization has just never done. The biggest move the Preds have done to date is the Erat trade followed up by the free agent signing of Karyia that truly punched the organization into a area where they could get better FA's to even consider playing here. Some how some way they need to get better in the areas of player evaluation both young guys to draft and ELC players and vets that fit the need . When they do this fans will no longer have to put so much into hoping the young guys develop but are pushed only to be bottom 6 on real contending teams. I was burned by this with Colon Wilson I really wanted him to be that top 6 winger that could take the

team up a level. He was not and after his ELC and he got that first 4 mil per contract he just fell apart we now know he had hidden demons that helped his collapse.

So now we set at the bottom looking up. More than just the players on the ice need to be changed. One could argue that there needs to be new ownership at this point. A owner who is a hockey person not just owners that can afford to be an owner but is clueless about the game. The cup is hard enough to win with all things going right ask the Zleafs who have not won a cup in over 50 years has made it past round one just once in the last 18 years. All the while throwing millions into the team. It took St Louis 50 years to win their first. And despite having one of the best GM's in the league Detroit is still struggling. The path the Preds face is going to take a long while probably a decade or more to return to playoffs regularly. Then they have to refocus on going for a cup.

Jankowski scores 2 goals with Carolina!
I didn't mind moving Jankowski to clear out some roster spots but to me, he was always the best player out of him, McCarron, Smith etc. He had the versatility to play both wing and center, had a big body to go with decent skating and some offensive punch. He was not a face-puncher, or "physical" in the sense Brunette & Trotz view it. That's why HE was the one that got moved.
