It's very early but he's looked terrible so far. A lot of his weaknesses were front and center. For what its worth, I know it's a lot of same parts and even some AHL upgrades but the team in front of him has been pretty bad, I was expecting this team to dominate. It's only 2 games but a 5.44/.857 is big woof and worse yet he played like the line suggests. Still not big on him like other posters, and saw some weaknesses in his gme last year but we will see if this is an early hiccup and if he can turn this ship around and get back to his goalie of the year performance last year.
Prepare to be horribly wrong

My favorite part is someone writing this based on 2 games.
Mhmm, it's 2 game viewings and my perspective. I'm being critical, but I wasn't saying it was the be all and end all. I watched both game on replay and came away with the fact he looked brutal, but did cite his team looked bad as well. Hell even the female announcer was a struggle to listen to. No one had their A game. It's 2 games, yes, but it's still 2 viewings.

I mean, I didn't really give a projection so what am I preparing to be wrong? I said he looked terrible. Which that's a fact, he looked bad. I even put some blame on the team in front of him. I said I wasn't sure if it's a hiccup or if he'd get back to his goalie of the year status.

I remember when you guys consistently hyped up Rittich and Gillies as untouchable goalie prospects and the saviours too…

No idea how Wolf turns out but goalies are absolute voodoo and usually don’t turn out the way you think they will

Two games mean nothing. He had a great season last season so I’ll judge him more after 20+ games maybe…

Shutout tonight. Save percentage up to .916.

So in his last 6 games he has a 2.00 GAA and .933 sv % with a shut out.... but his first 2 games are what we need to base his career on

I'm confused, I've been rereading the guys post over and over. All he said was Wolf had a bad 2 games, he didn't say that his career was defined by them. He even said "its only 2 games"

I mean... if he can cherry pick stats from 2 games, I can certainly make him aware of his stats on the last 6.

He said Wolf had clear weaknesses that were apparent last year that were being exploited this year.

You absolutely should! He’s a hell of a goaltending prospect, and he’s better than the first two games would suggest. I was just confused about the comment about the other posters quote that’s all

that’s just that poster’s opinion on the player. of course if they have a negative opinion of the guy, they’ll jump at the chance to say they were right. He even left room in his comment to say that Wolf has the chance to turn it around

I don’t know the poster at all, just thought the reaction to his post was strange.

That said, Wolf looks like a good prospect! Goalies are hard to predict at all but he’s looked promising so far

14-4 with a .921 now.

Guy is elite.
Still a bust. Doesn’t make up for two bad games to start the season.

I’ve said this for a long time on guys like Wolf or DeBrincat and I’ll say it again - you cannot dismiss all junior success due to size. If you’re the best at your position in junior in your draft year, you deserve a shot. I really figured he’d go in the 4th round or maybe 5th. Was surprised to see him just barely get drafted. If he was 6’4, he would have gone no later than the second round.

He really needs to get a shot next season. But Vladar is signed to a two-year extension. Something has to give.
Kinda weird that they signs him honestly. Seems like the natural progression would have had him as a backup next year.

Wonder if Flames management doesn’t trust that he will be NHL caliber

I think the real important question is how long they hold on to Markstrom the way he's been playing.

It's a problem not just with hfboards prospects but in the modern internet. You can't have a dissenting opinion. I literally was stating my opinion from watching him over 2 games and never once closed the door on him. Most of the people chirping 2 games 2 games 2 games, have never been in a scout meeting. I realize it's 2 games, I'm simply stating what I saw in those 2 games and again, as this poster I am replying to pointed out, I never closed the door on Wolf.

I just stated the facts after actually watching the games, not stat watching, not twitter highlight farming, I've endured the Wranglers terrible announcer during a number of these broadcasts for 6 total viewings this year (granted I was watching other players for example in the Moose series, I was watching to keep an eye on Lambert), unlike 90% of the people who comment here they've probably never even heard her lol. It's why this prospect board has gone downhill over the last few years it's just echochambers and tummy sticks, and GeorgeLeafer want-to-be's.

Wolf's been playing well, I like a lot in his game, (saw him in the Moose series and shut out San Diego) but I stand by my assessment, he still has holes in his game that are cause for concern at the higher level that he needs to work on. And my positional analysis on my substack showcases these issues.

The other factor few take into account is level of competition, and how the ahl schedule works with series. The west coast teams in the Pacific division SUCK this year, for example in the shutout performance Wolf didn't have to do much, still a good performance and he looked sharp, granted the best shooter that had a shot was Danny O'Regan, I think it's safe to say in the nhl he'll get a few better shooters taking shots on him.

Here's the big one though, I don't think the Wranglers have played 1 top 10 scoring team all year. (EDIT before any of these sycophants can correct me) looking at it now Coachella is tied for 10th.

TLDR for the people who will pin point one word and argue one point, he's playing well though not as tested as I'd like to see, and has some very likeable and translatable skills for the nhl level, but his game still has holes and things he really needs to address or figure out workarounds for given some limitations.
