I really think the only reason he dropped so far is because he’s not taller. Knight 6’3, Askarov 6’4, and Wallstedt 6’3. All of them are 1st Round guys but Wolf with the season he had in his draft year, it’s insane that he wasn’t at least a 3rd Round Pick. It could’ve also been scouts thought it was just the team in front of him being really good so his stats are inflated, but I mean cmon he dropped to the 7th? I’m rooting for him to do well in the NHL just so it can validate my opinion of him I had in 2019 lol
Yeah, if I recall correctly I said he's a 1st round talent (or early 2nd I guess, for goalies) but size would make him drop to the 4th or 5th. Never thought he'd fall to the 7th.

The Flames haven’t been able to draft & develop a goalie in something like 20 years, feel bad for goalies drafted by them. They’ve had a few blue chippers the last few years too in Gillies and Parsons. Pulling for this kid tho!
It is like they are cursed after trading up to get Kidd over Brodeur

Ya, goalies under 6'2 aren't very in vogue right now. His statline for a 16 and 17 year old in the WHL is historically as dominant as any goalie to come out of that league. Crazy it took until the 7th round for someone to take a gamble on him.

Watched Everitt vs. Portland, apr.18th game. He was quietly spectacular.. he's so conservative with his movements! Excited to see if he can take the next step :). (Seems to play pretty big for his size too!)

The biggest aspect to Wolf's game is his IQ. He knows who he is, his strengths, his weaknesses, etc. He knows he's not a big goalie. He knows what is required of a modern goalie. Playing low and wide and relying on just being agile doesn't work. Sliding around like a crazy person doesn't work. You need to stay on your feet, hold your edges, beat passes as often as possible on your feet, etc. The shooters in the NHL are way too good to just give up the top of the net on a regular basis. Wolf's game is tailor made for the NHL with the only question being can he continue to translate his success to the higher levels.

#Flames prospect Dustin Wolf has played in 5 games with the @AHLHeat this season, going 4-0-1 with a 1.59 GAA and a .949 save percentage.

Great starts for Wolf
Loved this guy in the draft and wanted the Leafs to take him when he was still available in the later rounds. Teams need to stop obsessing over size. Talent and results should always count first. Now look how he is doing in pro to start. Look how Saros is doing.

One month later, he is now 10-0-2 with a 1.98 GAA and a save percentage of .937. For context, the goalie he was supposed to be battling for the starting job in the AHL is 4-2-0 with a GAA of 2.98 and a .882 save percentage. 2nd best save percentage in the AHL out of goalies who have played 5 or more games, and the 3rd best GAA. The craziest stat is his save percentage has only dropped by .003 making the jump from the WHL to the AHL.

He's been consistent, too (green means better than expected opponent-adjusted save percentage):

Insert several caveats about save percentage here.

I know goalies are extremely hard to predict but I think he could be the next undersized elite Flames mid-late round pick

His rookie season in the AHL so far, at 20 years old :

409 shots faced in 13 games, that's 31.5 per game.

384/409 - .939 sv% - 1.90 gaa

11 wins - 24 team points - 24/26 maximum team points won - 1.85 team points per game
