Flames goalie development has to be some of the worst in the league. They need an overhaul before this kid gets affected by it too.

More like every single goalie they've drafted has been injured soon after the Flames drafted them. They have the worst luck when it comes to taking goalies.

Brent Krahn wrecked both of his knees soon after being drafted.

Parsons has barely played since being drafted due to injuries.

McDonald regressed in his final year of junior before getting into the Flames system. I just don't think he was ever that good.

Gillies is an odd case. He had major surgery right after his college career. At times he's looked great. At others he's looked awful.

Then there's Rittich who they developed well. He was already a pro when he came over but he did spend a good two years in the Flames system.

As for Wolf I'm not going to hold my breath. I just assume any goalie the Flames draft won't pan out at this point. Eventually I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Fair enough but at some point you need to make some changes. Krahn & McDonald were never NHL talents imo but Gillies, Parsons (still lots of time), Ortio etc all had flashes but could never get past the hump. Weird that their nhl goalie coach is Jordan Sigalet imo, they should go and try and get one of the better nhl goalie coaches. Rittich & the Russian they just signed were already developed when they signed them and seem to be their best hopes.

I really like him and I think it was a great pick but the concerns about his size are legitimate. There's only 3 goalies in the NHL smaller than 6'0. Wolf is listed at 6'0 but seeing him at the draft it's not exactly a "big" 6'0.

He's got an uphill battle but the talent is there.

What a crazy pick up by the Flames thou.
19-20 season so far, record: 13-5-0-0, .940 sv%, 1.94 gaa, 31 shots faced per game

OHL career numbers:
record: 67-26-2-2
saves faced per game: 28.3
gaa: 1.85
sv%: .935

I'm watching this game live in the SS, my third live viewing of Wolf this season. He's made some good stops, but I'll say this, and I have continued to say this. When he's got a lot of pressure below the dots, he's not as good and struggles.

He's also been cheating a lot on point shots. I never noticed him doing this last session I saw, so maybe it's a new revelation, but if there's traffic, he'll just guess where the puck is coming from. There was a shot today where he was WAY OFF. The puck went wide though, but he easily got burned by that read/guess. Look, it's working, he's playing well and he's been tough to beat, but it's interesting to know if this is a tracking issue, or a strategy based on his size. But he's dropping a fraction of a second if not more before he should be. We'll see how this works out in periods 2 and 3.

Thought he was fine today. Nothing special, made some good saves, but again displayed some really odd habits I hadn't seen from him. He's cheating a bit, I saw at least 7 times according to my tally. Could be more.

Context matters. Maybe instead of reading some twitter stats and lol'ing like you're smart, you could put down your pocket protector, and watch a game, and realize his >>>19 year old rookie backup's<<< only started 2 games. His 4 appearances, were the first in his WHL career, and he's looked respectable after a shaky start. I mean, I didn't go to Devry/Yale like you my good sir, but is it possible there could be a lack of data considering his backup who was plucked from the USHL garbage pile has only played 140 something minutes all year?

The Tips took a kid who was getting lit up in the USHL last year, COULDN'T EVEN HOLD A JOB IN THE USHL, AND HAS NEVER HAD A SAVE PERCENTAGE ABOVE .900 IN HIS CAREER, HIS CAREER, and after 2 starts and 140 something minutes have him hovering around the top 10-15 goalies in the league in most goalie cats on any given week. You want a true barometer? Watch the tips when Wolf goes to USA's selection camp. I guarantee you Karki won't skip a beat the same way Palaga didn't. Who by the way went from having a STELLAR line last year (better than Wolf's line) as the backup, to looking like garbage in the BCHL.

They're taking the old adage that anyone could play in net on this team and in this system and turning it into reality.

Karki has posted a 0.865 save percentage in 5 starts since Wolf left the team. I don't doubt that Everett is a very good defensive team but I think Wolf is a better goalie than you let on. He's still 18 and has remained consistently good throughout his WHL season so far.

Awesome to him sign with Flames today. Proves you don't have to be 6'8.

Well he signed a contract which is awesome, but unfortunately his size will make his goal to play in the NHL still a tough road. There have been a ton of smaller goalies that sign with NHL teams and stay in the minors. It says he is 6'0, but that's pretty generous.

I'm a massive fan of him and have watched alot of him since he was 16 but I know his size is an issue. I'm cheering for him to make it tho!

Won WHL goalie of the year today.

Back to back .935+ Save percentages, Does he still go in the 7th? His numbers didn't improve but expecting anyone to record anything better than he's done is insane when you consider the defence in junior hockey.

20 Shutouts already in his career, he could break the WHL record next year.

Maybe his draft position improves a little bit but I imagine it'd be slight. Beyond goalie evaluation being so difficult, his big drawback is his size. Had he grown a couple of inches this season, I'm sure he'd see a huge jump in draft position in a re-draft.

I think the biggest predictor of success with goalies is how well they stop the puck. The guys that are consistently putting up .920, .930, .940 every season, regardless of what league they are moving up to, are usually the players that turn into the good NHL goalies. Wolf rates extremely high atop that measure. He’s right there with the best goalie prospects in the league in that regard. I’ll take a 6’0 goalie with numbers to back it up than a 6’3 without the numbers.

Wolf at 4 is a real big stretch in my opinion. Real big.

I don't agree with the ordering of the list, but I think Wolf has to be in consideration for top 5 with what he's been doing. It's not as if he's so undersized either. At most, 1 inch under a size where his size wouldn't be considered a problem. I tend to think the most important part of evaluating a young goalie is SV%, if you include context. The best goalies in the NHL are often the goalies that throughout their career have been consistently .920, .930, .940 in any league they played in.
