While it's not likely to happen this season as the Wranglers are one of the best teams in the AHL, I'd love to see him available for Team USA at the World Championships in one of the upcoming tournaments.

You never know, the Calder Cup AHL Playoffs are actually kind of insane sometimes lol.

Well, we'd take it. USAH struggles to get players to show up, and to be honest, the best goalie performances we've had in the tournament usually come from the youngest goalies we've taken who are just establishing themselves.

Knowing the competition, unless some solid NHL talents show up, Wolf would probably the best goalie in the tournament. He would do very well vs Europe's top shooters.

AHL + WHL combined (updated as of January 24th 2023)

228 (regular season) games
153-40-8 record

W% : .667
P% : .715

1.43 team points per game

2.07 GAA
.931 SV%

29.1 shots faced per game
(30.3 shots faced in the AHL, 28.5 shots faced in the WHL)

It is very difficult to keep a 93 save% for 228 games

Flames goalies this season have faced

Markström : 25.7 shots per game (.895 sv%)
Vladar : 28.4 shots per game (.905 sv%)

Interesting to see how Wolf plays with lesser shots faced

It would be so cool if he could keep his stat line(s) at the NHL level.

Can add AHL all star game MVP (along with Dostal) to his ever growing list of accolades. Assuming his play doesn’t drop off there’s a very high chance he repeats as AHL goalie of the year as well. That would give him WHL goalie of the year x2, CHL goalie of the year, AHL goalie of they year x2, and now an all star game MVP in his passed 4 seasons. It’s been a long time since Wolf has played somewhere without being the best goalie by far.

He decided to celebrate by allowing 1 goal on 43 shots in his first game back with the Wranglers. This man has very elite potential in the NHL.

He’s an NHL calibre goalie right now. Easily the best I’ve seen in the AHL in the past several years, since Demko was starting in Utica.

Presumably Calgary will trade Vladar for a pick in the summer and Wolf is in the NHL next year but Calgary can be a weird team in how they do things so who knows.

If any goalie we have needs to go its Markstrom. Unfortunately his NMC will make things a bit more difficult, but Vladar should be the one splitting the net with Wolf.

Barring some unlikely collapse he's on track to be AHL goalie of the year again. Which would give him four straight years of being the 'Goaltender of the Year' of the league he's playing in, with one of those years being both WHL & CHL goalie of the year.

Hasek only ever won 3 straight Vezinas :naughty:
This. It puzzled me that the height fetish got him overlooked despite all he’s done. I would have drafted him much earlier. He looks incredible in there and does not play small at all. Love his game.

With Markstrom looking washed, there’s probably a good chance he gets a few games with an injury and he’ll be pushing hard next season.

Has 11 more wins than the next goalie. Best SV% league wide and 2nd best GAA.

I was more of the opinion the Flames should let him hone his craft as long as possible for the farm team but it's starting to look like he might be too good for the competition. You don't want elite talent to stagnate if you can avoid it.

If you’re wondering who is leading the AHL in any particular goalie stat right now, the answer is Dustin Wolf. He is first in minutes played, shots faced, wins, shutouts, GAA, save percentage, and shootout save percentage (tied at 100%). If they kept track of any more stats, he’d probably be first in those too.

21 years old and closing in 200 career wins (189).
WHL and AHL combined.

70/97 in the AHL - 146 team points (1.51 t ppg)
(8/13 in the play-offs)

106/149 in the WHL - 218 team points (1.46 t ppg)
(5/10 in the play-offs)

career sv% in those games is .930
career gaa in those games is 1.96

- winning -

At this point they might as well keep him down with the Wranglers for a hopefully long playoff run. No point messing up his routine by calling him up for meaningless Flames games.

I’d be very surprised if he isn’t on the Flames roster next year though.

It's a little frustrating that goaltending sank the Flames season while this kid was dominating the AHL but I guess that's the limitation of waivers
