I believe the habs didn't put much focus on drafting goalies ever since they landed Price...Primeau was just a diamond in the rough they got lucky with.

If the habs wanted a goalie, they would scout one and draft one in the earlier rounds (1st or 2nd) like they did with Price.

Nashville put more emphasis on defensemen than the habs put on goalies.
Fucale?

And his full no move that he would have to waive to go to an expansion team...who would have to want him in the first place. Seems like the kind of thing that has like a 5% chance of actually working out.

if the Habs keep missing the playoffs it would seem likely he would waive. Doesn't have to be to an expansion team, several teams could have goalie issues so as long as he is playing at a high level and wants out with the Habs willing to eat a couple Million off his cap then I don't think it's that far fetched at all.

I guess that would make it slightly more likely. If you guys eat a big chunk and are not good then it could happen. I guess I just think there are way to many variables involved to count on something like that happening.

not only that, but what'S the point in wasting assets and resources on scouting 1-3 rounders for a goaltender when you have 10+ years left with Price, no need to waste it on an other goaltender until 2 years ago, thus why we have Primeau

Idk, he could get injured or abruptly retire.

Heck the flyers pick one goalie every single draft because they're such a crapshoot. Most would consider it risky to not devote any resources to scouting/drafting goaltenders for half a decade or more.

what a start to the year for him, 1.88 gaa, .939 %, has looked very solid so far and Laval has had a really tough schedule to start the season.

After another strong outing yesterday, he's actually now at 1.80 gaa and .941 sv% his first 6 starts in the AHL. That's in the same ballpark as Shestyorkin's stats who was named AHL goaltender of the month but is > 3 years older.

I think Montreal should draft more goalies than they do, even know.. there's nothing in the system outside of Primeau as the Danish goalies year in the Swedish J20 is pretty disappointing. Would have been better off drafting Hlavaj like I wanted them to, but alas.

This dude is going to make the Habs brass make a tough decision sooner than most people probably thought, imho.

I can’t believe he fell this far in the draft. As a Canuck fan I wouldn’t have mind if they took him in the 2nd round with our pick in the 50s

let him ferment for a couple of years in the AHL, and then we'll deal CPrice ;)
we'll have to eat salary though

that shouldn't be a problem, Price at 8.5M per certainly looks better to teams then at 10.5M depending of course on how his game holds up.

Right now Primeau is playing like the absolute stud of a prospect that he is and looks poised to be a really good starting goaltender for us in about two or three years. If he continues dominating like that throughout the entire AHL season and performs well at the NHL level, we might actually trade Price in the foreseeable future, something that I thought I'd not see for another 4 or 5 years at least.

Though i haven't seen him play, his stats are really impressive. Fun to think a late 7th rounder could become a good, if not a dominating piece for us in the future.
