Finally got around to the game today. I’m not surprised you picked a Backside Dig to illustrate what he can’t find. That’s sort of the bellwether route for high end NFL processing.
I’m going to make a weird comp, but stick with me here. He reminds me of JT Miller. If he’s asked to carry you, you’re irrevocably f***ed. But when he stays on schedule and the puck is going in, he’s a positive asset. They both sort of amplify whatever you already have going on rather than being the root cause of success.
Mostly I’m thinking about the asinine conversations coming out of ‘22 about turning him into a West Coast style QB. Instead of trying to force him into holes in which he doesn’t fit, just run what he’s comfortable doing and the offense will be passable. I’m always going to worry about that in playoff situations against bespoke game plans, but they’ve tried to build the roster in such a way to minimize that specific risk. There’s a path there because Fangio is working miracles.
I am terrified about what Frank Reich is going to do to this offense if that is indeed where they go.
*Edit* The discussion ~35 Minutes in is great stuff. Good outcomes does not mean sound process.
*Second Edit* The play immediately after that is so much worse. I don’t know if they’re just hammering home to avoid throwing picks at all costs or what the hell is happening because he’s on the right read and it’s there. He doesn’t even look like he thought about throwing that Deep Out to DeVonta.
