I guess you don't understand the the NHL plays hockey inside for almost all its games. Particularly the All-Star game, which is what the topic is about.

There is a salary cap. You're not subsidizing the players. You're complaining about things that are controlled by the owners.

If you're so sick of these players, why watch the NHL?
There is revenue sharing in the nhl. So, like I said, fans in horrible "freezing" cities subsidize players salaries in their tropical paradises where nobody cares about hockey.

And the NHL salary cap would be at MLS levels if we took out the revenue of fans that live in horrible "freezing" cities.

These prima donna milionaires get flown first class to their $500 a night hotel and they have the audacity to complain about the weather. It's absolutely tone deaf.

This situation shows just how much these players take their money and their fans for granted.

The all-star game should be in the south sometimes to help grow the sport and the horrible "freezing cities" sometimes so the loyal fans get to be a part of it.

It’s work travel for the players.

And for that matter, do you think fans would rather travel to Miami or Calgary in February? This isn’t complicated.
... Terrible example though, Miami would be the preferred destination for the 11 other months as well. Save maybe hurricane season.

No kidding.

The majority of hockey fans live in cities that are "cold in the winter". THEY are the ones that keep this league afloat and give the players their spoiled affluent lifestyle. And the players just gave a huge middle finger to those fans.

When are fans in "cold cities" going to get fed up and move on to something else?

We already pay exorbitant prices for tickes/concessions in order to subsidize the millionaire players in warm cities where there are no fans that give a shit. Players are taking less money to play in sunny places like Florida. And now nonsense like this.

I'm sick of these freaking players.

If the Leafs weren't paying revenue sharing, ticket prices wouldn't go down a bit. The money would just be going to Tannenbaum, Rogers, and Bell instead.

If you're unhappy being a NHL fan, why not stop being a NHL fan. Seems straightforward to me.

That being said, you're letting a post that does not accurately represent what Fridedman said get you all worked up.

There’s nothing soft about the drive needed to be among the best in the world at one’s craft, no matter the field. This is something that unskilled workers/workers who only need a pulse to clock in don’t understand due to ignorance and perhaps resentment due to unrealized dreams.
LOL.................There are a ton of people who are at the top of their craft who are soft, people in general these days are soft.
Your take, is soft for gods sake.............relax man, it's a message board where people have an opinion different than you. LOL.
Have a snickers........

What I learned from this thread is a lot of people resent the athletes of the sport they follow. And probably hate their own jobs as well.

I also made the mistake of replying in a thread where the OP makes claims completely unsupported by any link. I should know better.

I'm on the verge of tears by the time we arrive at Espace, since I'm positive we won't have a decent table. But we do, and relief washes over me in an awesome wave.

It’s not a terrible example if it’s going to end up being in a ~5 year rotation.

Anyway, sub in LA Tampa, Vegas, or even Dallas, and the point still stands. People flock south in the winter for obvious reasons. Why would hockey players, coaches, fans be any different?

This is quite the contrast to Canada's road to the World Cup in which two key qualifying games took place in Edmonton in the dead of winter. Canadian players, many of who were born in Southern climates, embraced the cold and viewed it as an advantage over their Mexican and Costa Rican opponents.

But they can do that other times of the year. I also don't think the work conference in other cities is a valid comparison. People at work are not going to these other cities to make public appearances, sign autographs, take pictures with fans, etc. NHL is an entertainment business - they are there for the fans. Denying a significant portion of your paying fanbase the opportunity to meet their favorite players appears to be a form of bad customer service.

Players aren’t customer service workers. They can be nice guys and care about the fans… or not. It’s up to them.

Your argument makes sense from a league/owner perspective.

I mean this kinda makes sense because if these guys weren't going to the ASG, they'd be in the same vacation spot with great weather. But it also doesn't make sense that they picked Toronto for next year, lol.

nexthing the players are going to complain about the arenas being too cold.

I guess the kids and fans in cold climates don't deserve to see them live?

So much for that lol
They could partially limit it, keep NYC and Toronto type cities that have tons to do, but exclude Winnipeg, Edmonton etc as much as possible

I doubt the NHL would literally 100% block of cold cities but I could see them make an effort to at least make a disproportionate number of them in warmer/less frozen cities

I’m imagining all the not-soft fans in this thread at work talking to their boss

Boss: “hey, you know that yearly mandatory time consuming conference that doesn’t do much of anything, we can at least promise to hold it in fun warm cities you and your family can enjoy”

Fans: “nah that’s soft, that would be soft of me boss. Let’s take my scheduled vacation time and hold the conference in Winnipeg in winter. My wife will surely appreciate that.”
