This is the inevitable consequence of Lindros pulling his power move. Scott Stevens wanted absolutely nothing to do with NJ either, he just wasn't as successful as The Big E.

Life teaches us a lot of lessons and one I learned was not to be too tough on Lindros for that decision.

People on here talk a lot about old school boomers like me being stuck in the past. Probably THE biggest boomer trait that never seems to get questioned (because it is still supported by younger people) is expecting a player to go where he is drafted 100% of the time.

I have one daughter who is very accomplished track athlete. She was recruited by many colleges, especially in the northwest US (colleges in Washington, Orgeon, California, North Dakota and Montana).

We visited a bunch of those schools and listened to their offers. Some were throwing out crazy amounts in scholarships, numbers we couldn't believe.

Ultimately, she did not want to move that far away from Saskatchewan, our home. Portland and Seattle really scared her, frankly. So she took a deal in a Canadian university which financially was worth about 1/10th of what she was being offered in the US.

I wonder what she would have felt as an 18 year old if, for example, the University of Portland just got to choose her and she was expected to go there. I know there is a difference between pro athletes and amateur, but I am sure she would not have gone there, nor would we have wanted her to.

That's why I look at that whole Lindros thing a bit differently now that I am older and have seen the athlete's side.

when did nhlers get so soft.
In fairness, the entire event is no longer geared towards your hockey fan. The players view this as a vacation/family trip. They couldn't care less about the event. Spending a week or so with their family is far more important.

Well the ASG is officially in Toronto next year so bundle up and let the crying begin

What a win for you. You stand triumphantly resplendent above the soft babies of the NHL. A bald eagle cries in the distance while a single tear rolls down your cheek.

Gotta love a bunch of keyboard warriors calling athletes that are tougher than virtually everyone here "soft" because some of them want a break somewhere warm.

Scrap the all star game and scrap the break. Get these guys back to playing actual meaningful games.

Getting rid of it would get the league a few extra days to improve their mess of a regular season schedule.

Then cancel it and have the week off or make it voluntary so you have guys that actually want to be there.

This event is shit and the players entitled "it's not my job" to sell the game attitude makes it worse.

Return the cart.

Is this a joke? Hockey is a winter sport playing on ice.

It is ridiculous because they are pro athlete that get paid by all type of hockey fans. I mean if you wanted to only stay in warmer climate then do another profession.

Why exactly? The players make money than you so they should never talk about anything?
I simply said “it’s less fine.” How did you get that I think they should never talk about anything? And where did the money thing come from? Wacky.

It’s obviously less than ideal that company representatives let it slip that they have negative feelings about the cities where their customers reside. If that’s a controversial opinion, I don’t know what to say.

Why pursue another profession rather than try and get your current profession to accommodate what you want?

I don't know what your job is but a lot of people have jobs where they're supported by customers. Because of that they shouldn't ask for things?

No kidding.

The majority of hockey fans live in cities that are "cold in the winter". THEY are the ones that keep this league afloat and give the players their spoiled affluent lifestyle. And the players just gave a huge middle finger to those fans.

When are fans in "cold cities" going to get fed up and move on to something else?

We already pay exorbitant prices for tickes/concessions in order to subsidize the millionaire players in warm cities where there are no fans that give a shit. Players are taking less money to play in sunny places like Florida. And now nonsense like this.

I'm sick of these freaking players.

The obsession people have with everything being as difficult and uncomfortable as possible is sickening. The majority of these dudes spent no less than 18 years freezing their ass off. Many live and play where they're freezing their ass off and the thing that's ***supposed to be*** a break and vacation for them can't be of their own preference? Get out of here with this.

You go ahead and take a slapper off your foot night after night for ten years and I'll come at you with what a whiny little wimp you are about wanting to spend a weekend with your family in the sun instead of -6

They get first class treatment in any city that the event is held in. There's a pretty wide gulf between that and "being as difficult and uncomfortable as possible." And it's ***supposed to be*** one of the NHL's premiere marketing events.

This thread is absolutely ridiculous. The OP either intentionally or unintentionally distorts what Friedman said in his report and other posters just immediately take it as the gospel truth. Just wow!:shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

I guess you don't understand the the NHL plays hockey inside for almost all its games. Particularly the All-Star game, which is what the topic is about.

No kidding.

There is a salary cap. You're not subsidizing the players. You're complaining about things that are controlled by the owners.

If you're so sick of these players, why watch the NHL?
