I get that. If I have a choice between attending a conference in Chicago or Las Vegas, I'm choosing Vegas and it's not just for the nightlife.
depends..... if their is no North city paying high price ticket.... you play in Europe and don't cash win multimillionaire contract....Arizona is south, would be very great for the players if the NHL was playing in 30 city arena à la Coyotes! They would be warm.... with no one in the stand to pay their deal....

I mean not really a surprise. Edmonton, Buffalo, Winnipeg etc are always ranked near the bottom of where players want to play.

If I was a multi millionaire athlete I'd prefer spending more time in Miami too.
Yes ofcourse but it's for one weekend. These are the highest paid players. The ASG is for the kids. Suck it up remember when you were a kid. Go on year long vacations when you retire with 100 million sheets in the bank.

Players getting a week off in the middle of the season is soft enough...now looking for the ASG to be in a warm location is the icing on the cake. Bad enough most of these kids can't throw a decent bodycheck to save their lives anymore, and games have gotten dull as anything. It's getting harder and harder as a fan to watch this stuff.

Only change I would make, is to make the all star game and skills competition a more compact event. Do a 1-hour show of a few skills, then 15-30 minutes of interviews/commentary or whatever, then play the game. Get it all done in one afternoon/early evening.

I mean, this isn’t a surprise. If you had to go somewhere for a work event, do you want to go to Canada or the northeast in February?

Not me

According to Friedman there has been an overwhelming response from NHL players that they dislike participating in the All-Star game weekend festivities and commitment. NHL teams have expressed that it is becoming increasingly harder and harder to get their players to want to go to the ASG.

The NHL met with All-Stars yesterday to try and come up with a solution on how to entice players to the event.

Friedman says that the overwhelming response is that players only want the ASG to be in hot weather/family ideal locations.

Friedman says that the NHL really took this to heart and are thinking of limiting the ASG to a circuit of a few cities, (Ala Superbowl)

Friedman mentions that the cities would be places such as , Florida, Tampa, Dallas, Arizona, Caliornia teams, Westocast.
If I was Gary Bettman, I would hold the All-Star game in Alaska for the rest of my tenure as soon as I heard this.

Half the league are on vacation from April to October. The other half from May-June to October. The player have several fornicating months to be in a warm place.

Bettman probably agrees with them.

Yo this is statement that deserves to get dunked on by the older "80s was peak hockey thread"

The players extremely soft if they actually think like this

Just quit the game, only have skills competition. If no one wants to get hurt, then skip it.

Most of the players don’t want to go to the all star game just like most fans don’t want to watch the all star weekend. I lasted around 5 minutes watching that breakaway challenge garbage last night. So cringe but I’m sure Bettman thinks everything is fine

Yeah poor guys can't be bothered to spend 2 days somewhere cold where people actually care about hockey even tho they'd be inside the entire time receiving world class amenities. Such horror

You plan a trip to Florida, and go stay there for the weekend, including traversing, and in and outs of hotels, restaurants, going to stores. Then do the same in Ottawa.

Respectfully, but please don't downplay the weather there, for people who don't live there or in those conditions elsewhere, it's a real deal breaker for lackluster "all star" events.

Exactly. The only time they spend outside is walking from a vehicle into a restaurant, hotel, arena or airport. Probably a combined 30 minutes for the entire trip. Bunch of babies

If the ASG didn't exist would anybody propose that there should be one?

I’d say do it in the offseason after free agency but the players would bitch they have to cut their vacation time by 2 days to take part in it

How is it “soft?” The vast majority selected still go, and even any who wouldn’t and factor that in have plenty of other reasons to not want to go

Idk why it’s “soft” to want to go somewhere that at least is that easier/more fun to take the family out, not to mention party

They didn’t speak out and force anything far as we know. The league sought to work with them to make it less shitty. Would he dumb of players to not exercise what influence they have.

Many of them would love to be on a real vacation mid season like most of the league. They want, if they can get it, the league to at least make it something of a vacation. Imagine you already have to travel for extra work, and you get snowed in or some shit, some extra bad winter weather lol. I wish I had a company that would even slightly consider asking us how to make things more palatable

and these are you fans.

why should players want to play in the cold when this is the fanbase.
