Here is how the Calgary Flames did with Brad Treliving as their GM:

2014-2015: Lose in the 2nd round
2015-2016: Miss the playoffs
2016-2017: Get swept in the 1st round
2017-2018: Miss the playoffs
2018-2019: Lose in the 1st round
2019-2020: Lost in the 1st round after winning the qualifying round
2020-2021: Miss the playoffs
2021-2022: Lose in the 2nd round
2022-2023: Miss the playoffs

Leafs fans should be more concerned with the loser GM they just hired to replace Dubas rather than coming to shit talk Dubas here.
Treliving being unsuccessful is not exclusive from Dubas being unsuccessful. It feels like you're deflecting. Treliving has nothing to do with Dubas.

That said I think Dubas will do well in Pittsburgh but I hope he doesn't.

No, I'm criticizing Leafs fans coming in here to make fun of Dubas when they hired a guy with no tangible better track record. It's just a complete bitter ex syndrome from Leafs fans in here.

Treliving inherited a 77 point team back in 2014...Dubas inherited a 105 point team when he was hired...Context helps.

What did Dubas really achieve..?..At the end of the day, the Leafs aren't better or worse than they were in 2018...The results spell that out.

I'm not a Leafs fan, but I wouldnt say one guy is better or worse than the other guy in this case.
I don't think people here are saying Dubas had success with Toronto, or that he's better than Treliving. They are merely pointing out to the Dubas hating Leaf fans how ironic it is that the Leafs just hired a new GM with basically the same CV as Dubas. Clearly people in power like those guys despite them not having success yet.

Weren't you one of the common Dubas haters? Kind of funny to see him running your team now

He actually said “don’t expect me to pop up elsewhere”, you do realize Pittsburgh is elsewhere…

The context was a question about being a GM

Over 75% of the people calling this a dumb move are Leafs fans. The bitterness is funny.
Also have to realize that the people that came into this thread likely have a strong opinion one way or the other regarding Dubas. The "whatever" crowd is just that.

The playoffs are way too random to just look at results, the best team doesn't always win, I prefer to judge GMs based on the moves they make.

Zito looked like a terrible GM until the Penguins saved their season and Bobrovsky started playing like the best goalie in the world.

Agreed that playoffs are random, but Dubas had 5 years ...(with the same results)...thats a fairly big sample size.

After "failing" on the same standards that this board held Dubas to several times. (Regular season consistency, Playoff bounces).
And new eyes and new voices will help the team. Succcess or failures on HFB has no bearing, unless it make you feel better.

Dubas won the Leafs the cup by making the 2nd round, doing what most thought was impossible. It's only been a few weeks but it seems most people here have forgotten the celebrations and shock that took place after the Leafs sent the Lightning packing.
I guess this was supposed to be funny?

All the best to Dubas and the Penguins. I wish them both well.

I'm not at all surprised to see Dubas land another position so soon after leaving the Leafs. He was successful in Toronto, and I think he will have the resources to succeed in Pittsburgh as well.

There's a lot of angry, jealous people obsessed with his career path. It's pretty remarkable, and I think he has a good future ahead of him.

How was he successfull in Toronto?

He had Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Rielly/Kadri/Andersen already in place.

You’d have to be the worst Gm in history to not have regular season success with that roster.

1 2nd round exit with Torontos golden core and he’s one of the best Gm’s in the league according to some, insane honestly

This is starting to make way more sense.
I have no doubt in my mind, with absolutely zero proof, the Penguins basically hinted this to him which shifted dubas from staying in Toronto to going to pens.

Just a thought
That does make a lot of sense which probably should be investigated tbh. Too many things line up.

There has been two groups of Leaf fans since Dubas was hired, pro and anti-Dubas. This isn't something new now that he's Pittsburgh's Pres. He did lose a lot of Pro-Dubas fans since his presser tho, myself included.

Damn, used his family as a bargaining chip like that to try to get more money out of Shanahan then puts them through moving to a new country for a more demanding job 10 days later.

Dubas is cold as ice.

Uh you realize this was not a flip flop right? Like 30% of the Leafs board looaatthed Dubas. And 40% loved him. Rest were whatever. So what you are interacting with are the posters who have been shitting on Dubas for years now and have been celebrating on the Leafs board.

Do you move before you know where you're going to next? And he really wasn't fired - his contract ran out.

He was fired. If he wasn’t fired he’d have 2 contracts right now because his contract is in place until July 1st.
