Sure, but now we know more about how the Leafs worked.
All of the good things the Leafs did were because of Dubas.
All of the bad things were the fault of Shanahan and/or the Board.
:D
The biggest reason the Leafs were as good as they were was because of the assets Dubas inherited. Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly. Best player Dubas acquired was Tavares and he doesn’t deserve much credit for that because Tavares simply chose Toronto because he’s from here.

All the best to Dubas and the Penguins. I wish them both well.

I'm not at all surprised to see Dubas land another position so soon after leaving the Leafs. He was successful in Toronto, and I think he will have the resources to succeed in Pittsburgh as well.

There's a lot of angry, jealous people obsessed with his career path. It's pretty remarkable, and I think he has a good future ahead of him.
Dubas is a good GM/hockey mind. But he wasn't a good GM when he started. He didn't have success in Toronto.

It's amazing that Dubas has such a loyal following that believes the man to be a hockey super genius. Reddit Bros are absolutely convinced that every move he makes is pure gold. The Leafs fans there are in depression for losing the greatest Exec they could ever ask for while the Pens fans are being congratulated by the general fans as a whole for this heist that they pulled off. Never has a person accomplished so little and been praised so profusely for it. It almost makes for an interesting case study on how being young, "intelligent present" (re: glasses) and giving praise to analytics can really con a substantial number of otherwise decently intelligent people.

I figured that would happen. He probably want to be to the guy that answered to no one.

I saw reports, and don't know how legit they are, that it would take up to 3 days after Dubas put together a deal to get approval from Shanny and the board, and a high-profile D was lost because of this.

No clue how legit the report was though, but if true, that would definitely bother me and I'd want more freedom.

Here is how the Calgary Flames did with Brad Treliving as their GM:

2014-2015: Lose in the 2nd round
2015-2016: Miss the playoffs
2016-2017: Get swept in the 1st round
2017-2018: Miss the playoffs
2018-2019: Lose in the 1st round
2019-2020: Lost in the 1st round after winning the qualifying round
2020-2021: Miss the playoffs
2021-2022: Lose in the 2nd round
2022-2023: Miss the playoffs

Leafs fans should be more concerned with the loser GM they just hired to replace Dubas rather than coming to shit talk Dubas here.

So then does new Pitt GM get to bypass Dubas, and go straight to the FSG, so new person has more freedom.

Nathan mackinnon : “I’ll be leaving money on the table in my next deal”
dubas “it’s either leaf’s or nowhere, you won’t see me pop up next week sone where else”
Taveras: “I want to win a cup with Long Island “ proceeds to sign in toronto

ive learned all people associated with the NHL are liera

Dubas said he would only be a GM with the Maple Leafs. You do realize he's not Pittsburgh's GM?

Dubas didn't want to bypass anyone, he just wanted to streamline the process which seemed to be the issue between him and Shanny and why he wasn't re-signed.

But that's what would've happened no?

Freidman reported he had ideas to streamline the process and his understanding was Shanny and the board were still involved.

No clue exactly what it was, just repeating what Freidman said.

Dubas won the Leafs the cup by making the 2nd round, doing what most thought was impossible. It's only been a few weeks but it seems most people here have forgotten the celebrations and shock that took place after the Leafs sent the Lightning packing.

Treliving inherited a 77 point team back in 2014...Dubas inherited a 105 point team when he was hired...Context helps.

What did Dubas really achieve..?..At the end of the day, the Leafs aren't better or worse than they were in 2018...The results spell that out...Losing in the first round with those players year in , year out is not a success.

I'm not a Leafs fan, but I wouldnt say one guy is better or worse than the other guy in this case.
